  1. Was this video shot on a phone or one of LTT's older cameras? I'm seeing a drop in video quality? EDIT : Or is it just me?
  2. Awesome, as a followup to that I know Linus said in the video he wasn't interested in replacing his DHW Cylinders, but in the EU Viessmann make cylinders that are designed with coils inside them to connect to panels like these and heat the water stored in them. Pair up really well with wet underfloor heating like in the new place. There are also retrofit kits as well, but anecdotally I've heard that they aren't as reliable with increased heat loss and a higher likelihood of leaks. A well designed system could heat a house with no external heat energy input 6-8 months a year; in Vancouver I would guess you would get year round heating without external fuel as long as you use a large enough buffer vessel and a big enough array of panels. Also add in an air source heat pump and Linus woukd have an extremely energy efficient heating system and depending on how his cooling system works, he could probably run his cooling through the same system on a seperate loop.
  3. @jakkuh_t @LinusTech Re: Watercooled solar panels Have you looked at Photovoltaic thermal hybrid solar collectors (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photovoltaic_thermal_hybrid_solar_collector) ? They cool the panels by taking the heat generated and dumping it into a DHW Cylinder which you can use to heat your home / water. The leader in the field, imo, is the French company Dual Sun (https://dualsun.com/en/product/hybrid-panel-spring/). These panels increase the efficiency of the PV cells by as much as 25%, while the solar thermal collectors generate as much as 3.5x the energy (in the form of heat) produced by the PV cells. I have no idea of availability in Canada/NA or the brands that are available in your region but something to look into?
  4. I've had my current Youtube account for 5+ years and I've been subscribed to LTT on that account from day 1. LTT is one of 8 channels I'm subscribed to. Usually, whenever I search for a product review, LTT is the top result and LTT features prominently on my recommends. But as of a month ago, Youtube has killed off LTT on my search suggestions and recommends. It was only a minor inconvenience until today because I'm doing some research on a new laptop to buy for my sister, and Youtube keeps returning non-LTT results for product reviews when all I want are LTT's reviews. For example, "Dell XPS 13" LTT isn't even among the first 10 results, the top are videos with 10 to a 100 times fewer views. At first I thought this was because of the clickbait titles, but if the search "XPS 13 LTT" can find the video why can't the search "XPS 13"? And why on earth would the YT algorithm not recommend LTT videos to someone whose viewing time on YT is probably 30%+ LTT? I looked at Socialblade to see if the Youtube algorithm had decided to cool off on LTT, and lo and behold LTT's monthly views and subs added have dropped recently. I guess this wasn't isolated to me. So what the heck did LTT do that pissed off the YT algorithm so badly that it stopped trying to push LTT videos to someone who has been subscribed to them since the Langley house and whose viewing time on YT is mainly LTT. @nicklmg?
  5. If you caught the livestream today, Linus announced that he's off on holiday and wants other members of staff to host a video while he's away. @GabenJr had a couple of videos that seemed hella interesting (see poll Q2) and Linus mentioned that someone else (not Anthony) hosting was a possibility and my reaction was screw that noise, those video ideas are perfect Anthony material so how about we have a poll to see how the forum feels (Q1) ? @GabenJr if you end up doing the Linux gaming video, can you please rope in Luke? Tell him Transport Canada Civil Aviation ground Floatplane.
  6. It's just FPS/Total system cost. The issue is when you consider only the GPU for $/FPS calculations, you ignore the real cost of a system, even if you are buying a whole system. Let's do some example math : System cost without GPU - $500 GPU 1 - $250 50 FPS GPU 2 - $500 80 FPS If you consider only GPU cost, you're doubling your cost (+100%) for a 60% increase in FPS, obviously a bad deal. But if you consider total system cost, you increase system cost by 33% for a 60% increase in FPS, now it's a good deal. The total system cost was better for Linus at that time because he was paying for the whole system. If you are buying only a GPU then it's more appropriate to consider only the GPU cost.
  7. Sorry if repost, looked but couldn't find a similar thread. r/pcmasterrace is doing a Linus appreciation thread
