  1. I will perhaps be overclocking, but first when I learn how to do it. As of right now, I don't want to F up anything, so I'll need to read a LOT of tutorials!
  2. I am pretty satisfied with the Taipan, even though it's not fitted for the right hand. I didn't really know what to go for in the HDD category so I just took one on the list. About that xmp, I have heard it before, sounds really familiar but I don't recall what it is? Thanks for the help, I appreciate it
  3. Hi. I've built a PC on Pcpartpicker, and here's how it looks as of right now: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3Q2oN. Is there any changes that would be beneficial? As you can probably see, I went with a red/black colour scheme. I have chosen the 750D because I like the clean, simple aesthetics of it. Also, my maximum budget is around 1500$. As for peripherals I currently have the Razer Taipan, the Logitech K200, and an Asus VE228DE. I'm going for quietness and looks a lot. P.S. Do you guys know how to install the OS from a USB drive? An optical drive ruins the great looks in my opinion, and installing OS is the only time I'll need one, so eh?
  4. We have now checked the power saving mode, and we can tell it's disabled. It was running in high performance, just as mine. I have no clue, what so ever, of what is going on with this. They (Asus) might have turned down the clock speed of the card, just to make it have the bearing: "Ice Cool". But it's all just guesses. I hope one of you have a solution. Also, i just quoted you so you'd get a notification
  5. Might be just that. We'll run another one tomorrow, or if he's got the time, today. If it is just power saving mode, I think I'll kill him.
  6. Hi. Me and my friend was today comparing our laptops a bit, and we found that they have very similar specs. They have the very same Geforce 740m, but when we tested it in the Heaven benchmark, i got twice the FPS he got. We found that that his GPU was set to 405MHz while i had mine at 810MHz, both being stock. We wanted to know how to solve this issue. Do any of you have some suggestions?
  7. Thanks, that was really useful information! I think this CPU cooler will fit: https://www.komplett.dk/noctua-nh-c12p-se14-cpu-kler/581326#!tab:extra (NH-C12P SE14). As for the case fan, i think i'll go with an NF-S12A https://www.komplett.dk/noctua-nf-s12a-pwm-120mm-blser/779026#!tab:extra
  8. Thanks for all the answers guys, this really helped me out. Now i have a much better idea of what to go for
  9. Well, because i won't be looking inside my computer all the time, i might go with Noctua. Though it would be nice if they also looked good... Are those other fans as good as Nuctua's?
  10. Still, i do not know if a NH-D14 is overkill, as i have an Intel i5 3570k non-overclocked. I may mildly overclock in the future though, but not crazy, just as a max of 3.8 - 4GHz i think.
  11. Hi. I have a PC from last year that I'm making some upgrades on. The system is a bit loud for my taste, so I thought I'd put some new fans In. Here's a video of my rig: http://youtu.be/vl56aMn-qs0 I found out some time ago that my PC actually has negative pressure (taking the GPU into consideration) so intake it will be. The case fans i currently have installed are practically silent. And the CPU fan is too loud, the loudest fan in the system, with the second place being the GPU. It's the Cooler Master iDream 117i i think. I may swap it out with either a NH-D14 (if It'll fit in a Cooler Master 350 case) or a NH-C12P SE14 (I like the fact that i can also cool the surrounding area a bit). If any help, the specs of my rig is in my signature.
  12. I have talked to him about what he will use it for and the Price. The maximum is around 1300$ for a standalone computer. He will be be playing Minecraft, maybe with shaders. He's around 99% sure that he will want to play games like Far Cry, COD ans such. Two options left, number 2 and 3
  13. Yeah, one thing that i do not know though, is how much do shaders take? I haven't installed any on mine, so i don't have anything to compare with. I will be back on this thread tomorrow, it's 23:00 here
  14. Hi. My friend is wanting a PC since his laptop run games laggy. So i thought i'd assist him. Even though i'm pretty good with PC's, there's LOADS of options. I still haven't gotten a clear answer from him, though he is going to play some games like minecraft. What he do not know yet, is if he'll be playing games like Call Of Duty, Battlefield, or maybe Far Cry. I have some options here that looks more promising than others. The Intel NUC. It'll be loaded with the most powerful CPU, 8GB of RAM and an SSD. This one is fine if he's going to be playing Minecraft only? Or what? The second option is for a PC build by ourselves with a more powerful processor, 8GB RAM, maybe an SSD, but no graphics card. So if he's going to get into first person shooters and such, he can put in a graphics card The third option is to get one from a company in my country called Topdata. This is if he gets into FPS games and such, right from the beginning. I'll have a link for the site here: http://topdata.dk/. Click the "Compure m. m." button and you'll see options, some of which have hardware included, and some which do not. Now, for a guy like him, what do he need to get? I have a feeling that he's going to need a pretty powerful processor to run Minecraft, perhaps with some shaders on. What do you guys think? What should he get?
  15. I bought this in March last year, here's the specs: System CPUIntel i5 3570k 3.4GHz MotherboardASUS P8B75-M RAM8GB 1600MHZ DDR3 Kingston GPUXFX Radeon HD 7950 Case Cooler Master K350. Ok case, not much cable management though. Storage500GB WD HDD. Getting an EVO 120GB or 250GB. PSU550w XFX. Nice and silent Display(s)ASUS VE228DE. Damn that one dead pixel! CoolingCooler Master X Dream 117i. Will be upgrading to Noctua, haven't decided which one yet. KeyboardLogitech K200. It gets the job done. MouseRazer Taipan. Nice, although it would have been better if designed for right hand. SoundOfficial Wireless PS3 Stereo Headset. Overall very nice and run games smoothly on high/ultra I just copied this from my profile, didn't expect it to go this wrong though...
  16. I talked to my parents about the Nuc, and they seemed to like it very much. I found out that the Haswell 4010U i3 version would cost $722 (keep in mind that i live overseas, things may be a little bit more expensive), with an Intel 120 gig SSD, 4 gigs of Kingston RAM at 1600MHz, 1.35v and Windows. They liked the design and size, and they liked the power consumption even more SSD is included in the build. Blu-Ray is not needed, we are in 2014, they use Netflix. I think they're going with the Nuc, not 100% sure yet, but seems like it. Also, is the i5 version worth the extra bucks? They are really into price/performance and since it's an extra 125 bucks i want to know if it is that much better. I still don't want them ending up with one they have to get rid of a year later EDIT: Also, is the network card needed? They're not going wireless, so i think it's unnecessary.
  17. So, a Nuc may be the answer. 4GB RAM and an SSD (60 or 120GB?) and it should be good to go? Do i have to purchase the wireless card alone? And how is it cooled? Passively?
  18. Then i think about it, it may as well just be a laptop... I don't know. I like the upgrade-ability of a PC, so that they in the future can upgrade to something better. But doesn't a laptop use less power? And i think even a low end would meet their needs.
  19. I made some modifications and here's the result: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2U92T. Looking good? Anything i need to be aware of?
  20. NUC seems interesting. But heat is not an issue? I mean, such a small box, without any fans, there's got to be some heat issues. I like the concept, but i am not sure about it, i'd rather have the ability to upgrade with a mini-ITX i think.
  21. It'll soon be 2 in the morning where i live, i'll be back on tomorrow
  22. Perhaps, if it doesn't go over the budget Can you link to a PCpartpicker list? It makes things a lot easier
  23. I think they're going to use Netflix as a movie player, and there's not going to be a lot of photos etc. Just Windows, Spider Solitaire and small programs
  24. I just saw that now Yes, they're probably going to need Windows 7 (Home premium or what?)
