Hmm I'm guessing there isn't going to be any semi-easy ways round this. Would be nice if you could get cheap non-wifi wireless doorbells but with little vibrating receivers you could just leave in your pocket, or wife's underwear. I've found one such product on amazon but it's 3x the price of a regular wireless, non-plugin doorbell set. Boo.

I've been looking into this as well.
The problem lies that you would need to program the device that connects to the doorbell. (Altho i was thinking of using a ESP-01S instead of R-Pi.)
But also the app on the phone. And there lies a problem for me. I cant. Specialy since you want it fast and always on.

So i will keep an eye out for this topic. 😄
I wish you best of luck!

I agree, it's a poor pairing. I was just tinkering. However, If the CPU is on the supported CPU list, it should be able to at least run it at base clocks. If not, then Gigabyte and others are being outright misleading with their products. We're not talking about a light throttle either... we're looking at constant spikes down to 0.5GHz. Oh and as mentioned, it was still throttling with a fan placed directly over the top... granted not as badly but still.

Thanks for clarifying the components... RE the airflow situation though, is still throttles WITH a fan sitting directly on top, that's the main issue. Gigashyte.

My UT210-E has a phenomenally accurate DC current clamp. I truly wasn't expecting it to do so, but it was accurate to within 100mA iirc.

You could use something like MDT as well.   https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/deploy-windows-mdt/get-started-with-the-microsoft-deployment-toolkit

y3llowduk got a reaction from Slayerking92 in Avoiding cloud storage for my small business
    Hi All,

I run a small business from home of which I have some family members on-board with to help. The documents and files we use (small) are stored on my host Windows 10 desktop with some basic shares setup on the local network so other family members can use their own PC's/Laptops to access the files. At the moment I have several local user accounts for my family members on my host PC which allows me some basic control as to who can see what on the shares and it works quite well. I can add and remove local user accounts as I please.

I'm going to be taking on some people very soon and they need access to said files, but they will be working remotely of course. I need to set up a secure way of them accessing these shared files on my PC.

I do not want to use a cloud service, I want to own and manage all my own data. I don't care if it will solve this issue, I'm against using any cloud service. Setting up a complex dedicated server for this purpose seems a bit overkill at this point (I have played with FreeNAS etc. in the past) so I was wondering what the best way is of sharing my shares SECURELY over the internet? Do I need to create VPN from within windows or is that not secure?

those aren't a full backup solution. RAID is not a backup. What if the filesystem is corrupted. or the pc is stolen? or the PSU kills all the drives. Or malware gets on the system.

Go play with it. for O365 there is sharepoint so you can have users store files there and viewed by everyone.

Id let people have their own storage. Then its still backed up in the cloud, and managed by the owner, but temp docs or in progress files are viewable by everyone.

Also with O365 you get email and office included, and you probably need to buy that anyways.

Estimate your power draw and choose any Fluke AC/DC Current Clamp with suitable range. Make sure it say DC. I would also go for true-RMS one if your PSU is not cream of the crop. Fluke is my brand of choise. It has a long history and is more expencive, howerver nowdays it is made in China same as many other brands.

y3llowduk reacted to Grabhanem in Measuring wattage for individual PSU cables with current clamp?
Yep, you're correct in how that works. The one trick is that you have to make sure you only get the +12V and not the ground rails, because if you clamp the entire cable it'll average the current in both directions and read zero.

You could create a TrueCrypt/VeraCrypt volume just slightly smaller that the media's free space. Create it on your local drive and burn it to the MDisc.  You could do encrypted 7Z/Zip (this is what I use for archiving transaction log files). Both these methods have the likelihood of being around when you need to restore. I'm not sure if something like DiskCryptor would be able to encrypt the entire volume, I've never tried that.

yea, its the permissions of the server pc that matter, the client pcs won't matter.

When you connect there are options to give a username and password, and use the username on the pc your connecting to.

y3llowduk got a reaction from Slayerking92 in Password protected network shares without freenas?
Hi All, I was thinking of building a freeNAS server but as I don't have much data it's not really worth the investment in the dedicated hardware. I can achieve what I need just by using my personal rig (which is on basically all the time anyway). I'm thinking of having 2 x 1TB drives in raid 1, with a previous versions backup to another 1tb drive (as well as monthly backups to an off-site external drive). I will have a few network shares however I need to have some protected areas, only accessible to certain members of our household.

I like how freenas lets you set up really simple user accounts and permissions for Windows shares, without a domain or the need to mess around with the local user accounts on the PC's round the house. Is there a way of doing this just on my main windows 10 PC on the network shares without freenas? I guess I could have freenas running on a VM for this, as long as there aren't any issues with me shutting it down and starting it up every day? Just wondering if anyone had an idea for a better solution. Hope what i'm trying to achieve makes sense.
