You prob find that windows is downloading its own drivers and overwriting the drivers that had been originally installed in the 1st place.

You are approaching this from the wrong perspective, OP doesn't need a distro that does what he wants, he needs one that allows him to *make* it do what he wants, the guy was wise enough not to install AUR packages on a Manjaro system, this means he's been to more than one source of information before proceeding and is capable of reading, it's time for @GCandy77 to take the training wheels off.
Ubuntu, Pop, Zorin & Mint are normie tier distros, Fedora and Suse - RC testing areas for EL distros, thus moving him from one walled garden to another, in which, sooner or later, he'll find one of the walls too constraining and be faced with distro hopping again, or becoming a package dev.
Whilst the logical recommendation would be debian, I believe he'll be capable of "duplicating" his current system on Arch, but in this case that is what a virtual machine will help with re: Checking you can install a distro before you *need* to install it, if arch is too arduous then try debian.

Just turn off hardware acceleration. Whilst I admit my mesa is complete, I never use hardware decoding because I'm apt to watch podcasts etc whilst gaming and don't need the GPU getting any hotter, everything works fine.
The only time I'd bother messing around to make vaapi work "properly" is if I was streaming/recording CPU intensive tasks.

If you are getting to the point that Manjaro is starting to constrain your attempts to make your PC do what you it want it to, then it's probably time to move upstream to arch.

A way to fix it is to use the mesa package from vanilla Arch Linux. Unfortunately, it isn't the easiest thing and can lead to your system breaking. Also, you might want to try, at your own risk, getting the mesa package from the AUR, don't use the mesa-git package because it will, almost for sure, break your system.

Brodie did a great video on it :

But in general, I think I would just, personally, get away from Manjaro. The team behind it is doing a lot of weird stuff lately, and it doesn't really inspire confidence.

Upstream Arch Linux might not be a good idea if he considers himself a "relative noob". Not only, it isn't the easiest thing to install, but it requires a great amount of knowledge and work to maintain a functioning installation.
A Debian-based distro might be better suited if he considers reinstalling a new distro. Distro like Ubuntu, Pop!_OS, Zorin OS, or Linux Mint might be the way to go. Although, a RHEL-based distro like Fedora could be an option, but Fedora itself has removed the hardware decoding for AMD GPU, for real legal reason as it belongs to Red Hat, which belongs itself to IBM. It will require the user to add the RPM-Fusion repos and install the mesa-freeworld package.

    pipewire-manjaro is just a meta-package, which provides
    depend = gst-plugin-pipewire depend = pipewire depend = pipewire-alsa depend = pipewire-pulse depend = pipewire-session-manager depend = pipewire-zeroconf Which is the equivalent of
    pacman -S pipewire-session-manager pipewire-pulse pipewire-zeroconf pipewire-alsa pipewire gst-plugin-pipewire
It doesn't provide pipewire-jack and it uses pipewire-session-manager instead of wireplumber. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PipeWire#Session_manager
You also likely don't need pipewire-zeroconf unless your streaming audio over the network, though there is no harm in having it.

pipewire-jack replaces the jack2 package in pipewire.

Also this from one of your posts. pipewire-media-session was re-added back to the repo due to some people using a split system which wireplumber doesn't really permit, using pipewire alongside pulseaudio for instance. pipewire-media-session itself is nothing more than a reference/example implementation not meant to be used as a main session-manager, though it was for awhile.
    https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/media-session

Manjaro will likely swap out it's session-manager at some point in it's meta-package, and it's honestly fine. I just wanted to clarify some things. Glad you got it working though.

Vulkan-Radeon/RADV is part of the AMDGPU implementation in mesa. You will likely still need to enable support for Sea Islands, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/AMDGPU#Enable_Southern_Islands_(SI)_and_Sea_Islands_(CIK)_support
I however don't use manjaro or have a Sea Islands Card to verify that, Manjaro could enable it by default.

If its happening in everything my 1st thoughts would be that you do not have enough HD space spare (20%) or that you have a dodgy sata lead.

Do you still get the lag drop if you set the max fps to 60 or even 30 in games?

I want to come back after 3 beers, a healthy dose of uplifting house music (Jody Wisternoff April 2021 DJ Mix👍) & a bit of grit to get this bleeding resolved!

I think I must have had a bad install where pretty much everything worked apart from 1 or 2 random things that I could not place my finger on as after a fresh re-install .. mainly every thing is working again (apart from the random artifacts linked above) ... Still gonna say it .... " Bl***y Linux! .. Maybe its my age n I should really be saying "Bl***y Computers!!" 🤣

Also I thought I would re-solution the fix to xAcid9 - it turns out that route kicks the ass off the Fstab & systemd route and is like x1000 easier than both those methods .. So Thank you!!!

To save myself this potential future hassle if I ever need to re-install (most likely soon as im going to re-re-re-re-re-attempt getting dxvk working properly again) .. is there a terminal command that I can run that will check that everything has installed correctly from the usb?

Not my handiwork ... but il pass the message on 😉
Thx for that breakdown .. I am aware that its a 180w PSU as posted (soz if I wasnt clear on that), but its the how much the rest of the components draw that I wasnt to sure about n I totally forgot to add the RAM n motherboard  😬☺️  Its got a skylake 6500 btw.

You do make a very good point about being close to the power supply's max output n I agree, prob not a good Idea n I need to hunt for something else.  Thx again 🙂

    Hi,

Was given a PC by a friend and asked to fix his mistakes ( loose wiring ) and then install Win7 & CS6 on it ( will be completely offline ) ..  The PC is a Sff Dell Optiplex 3040 and hes butchered the hell out of it but it still works ( dont ask ) 🤣

The only components that are connected are - x1 dvd drive, x1 120gb SSD, a Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 Fan, x1 80/80mm Fan & a Geforce 710  GPU ( the HDD is not connected )

My issue is that I I have not re-built a Pc in a while and I do not know if the PSU can handle the Low profile 1050ti I want to put in.

I believe the current PSU is 180w (see pics ) and It currently has a Geforce 710 in there of which the specs page advises a 300w PSU is needed?? .. yet everything works fine apart from basic modern"ish" gaming looking pretty bad.

    https://www.geforce.co.uk/node/13144/specifications

The 1050ti also recommends a 300w PSU too n this is where Im hitting a problem.

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-sg/geforce/products/10series/geforce-gtx-1050/

The 1050 pulls 75w and the 710 pulls 19w but they both recommend the same 300w PSU.

The new egg PSU calculator suggests that Im currently using 193 Watts with the 710 installed and would up it to 243 Watts if I added a 1050ti.

Logic tells me that there should be a problem already as the im already using 193w from a 180w the PSU provides ... Yet everything works fine with the 710 installed, so Im confused 🤨

There will be no hardcore gaming done on this machine, just games like - Inside, getting over it and potentially Goldeneye on Xenia ... 98% of the use will go on CS6

Can anyone see any problems that could arise or am I good to defy all logic and go ahead with the purchase?

Any better suggestions on low profile GPUs also welcomed

    Thx

I`ll wait for someone else to give a better answer ... PopOs has never given me a "prompt" to reboot ...

In the past every time anything that has been upgraded and then pauses halfway thru the install, has always continued upon a reboot ( reads from saved cache ) and then worked no issue.

A lot of other sites are suggesting that its to do with the new kernel - your answers only offer your opinion, not any explanation 😑
