  1. a butt ton ( i think that is the technical term.
  2. kk thanks for the advise y'all. i think im going to go with the 14TB iron wolf pros.
  3. the only other option would be 100 gig m-disks (1,000 year + lifespan) but they are wickedly high priced.
  4. kk thanks, im looking to build a Plex server and im trying to decide between Iron Wolf Pro hard drives and samsung SSDs. im looking for massive storage that lasts as long as possible to store my movies and TV shows.
  5. If I were to use an SSD (a few of them) to store media, and set it as read only, how long can I expect the SSD drive to last?
  6. kk then, next idea is to mod a server Rack Enclosure with a window then work on buying/making a 4u chassis out of plexi.may or may not be doable, I may be just a noob, but im a noob with a dream
  7. I am moving soon and will have a new job that actually pays well, and am planning a new build. I want to build a rack mounted server. I want it to have the following. 1. A Plex server. 2. A dedicated playon unit. 3. A storage server. 4. Arack-mounted gaming rig I am fine with each system having its own 4 u case, but im wondering if 1 computer in a 4u rack chassis could handle running plex and playon at the same time. also could i do this in a 4u chassis that is built for storage with the hot swap bays on the front. If so i could shrink it down to 2 4u cases. so I guess my real question is can a 4u case likr this one (https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811165776) be built in such a way as to handle running a plex server and a playone streaming recorder Plus manage the storage of all the files at the same time. Obviously im a noob so im not sure of how to even phrase the question.
  8. wanting to build a rack mounted sever. does anyone make a plexi sever rack and plexi server chassis (preferably 4 unit ones)? if not how hard would it be to build one myself?
  9. but what about read speeds? if its too slow maybe theres a workaround, copying it to a drive to read from and then deleting it, i want to make a plex server from hell.
  10. image a petabyte of data that safe for 1,00 years. and some research suggests Mdisc can actually last 10 times that long.
  11. true but i was thinking of burning it all to 50 or 100 gig Mdisc blu rays, which have a life span of over 1,000 years. hard drives cant do that.
  12. I have seen 400 disc carousels on the market and was thinking burn your data to a bluray disc the drop it into the carousel to store it, so your pc could use it later. Any Ideas. maybe even being able to connect multiple units to a pc for insane storage (read only is fine for what i'm storing)
