If sticking with MSI still go the GODLIKE, it's newer, has reinforced PCIe sockets, RGB light (if it's your thing.), wireless lan, USB 3.1 type C, in the end both boards are going to overclock fine, heck with the right CPU my MSI x99a Gaming 7 will do 4.6Ghz on a 5820k  (mine cpu sucks and only does 4.3Ghz, but I tested with my mates to make sure it isn't the board)

I know people knock the killer nic, but I've never had a problem with it, though I don't use the Killer software package just the stand alone driver.

    What's actually wrong with yours?

I did post this over at the other thread, but I'll do it here too.

Had the same issue with a Asus z97 Hero board, got it home and pin was missing, not bent, huge fight with the retailer who claimed they have never seen a motherboard come from a manufacture with a bent pin (bullshit), they sent it back to Asus, they claimed my fault costed me $25 to repin, still better than a new board, but it still wasn't my fault, 20 years building systems and I've never bent a pin (also build macs for Apple).

You could ask MSI if they offer the same repining service (I would like to know myself now I have a MSI x99 board..lol), but the odds are your retailer won't accept a RMA straight off the bat.

Nope, the stock fan only has 2 pins, the card has no way of knowing what speed it's running at, so even at idle it runs at 100%.
The blower style fan is the only fan adjustable.

Don't take this the wrong way because I know Asus are dicks sometimes, but that receipt says it's a R9 290, not a R9 290x.

Then here Asus are claiming you sent them a R9 280x Matrix and they upgraded you to a R9 290, so I'm a little confused now..

I got this Hybrid up to GPU=1450Mhz VRAM=7500Mhz, haven't tried to go higher, temps with the included AIO hit 55c, which honestly isn't that bad for a included custom cooler.
Doing things like that scare me, I was pissing myself putting the G10/x60 on my GTX780ti Matrix card, I can't afford to replace it if I broke it.
I would of done the same to the Gaming 6G, but MSI in their infinite wisdom put warranty stickers on the heatsink screws and they will not honor warranty at all in Australia if it's broken.
So went the the easier option, the eVGA card overclocks better then the Gaming 6G that's for sure.

The Matrix is a card built for LN2, generally the "average" user won't get the full use out of a card like that, certainly has given the classified a run for it's money, shame it doesn't have the support the Kingpin does.
Yes I still like the Matrix, and they have their place, but for people who don't have time to tinker, a standard card would be better in the long run..lol..

Ok speaking from actually owning 3 types of GTX980ti's (Reference, Gaming 6G and now Hybrid), performance between the card are pretty much the same.
Of course silicon lottery comes into play with overclocking, but out of the box performance of non-reference cards are close, reference can be oc to that sames speeds with ease.
It's a matter of really what cooling and look you're wanting to go for,.
I ditched my Gaming 6G because it run's far too hot for a custom cooler, 78c when heavy going, 50c on idle due to 0db clock thing, which if a card is idling at 50c drives up internal case temps when no gaming.
Sold the Gaming 6G and now I have a Hybrid, same Firestrike results (given ther margin of error) and exact same clock speeds out of the box.
But much better cooling, 53c max on the Hybrid, no pump buzz for me (so they must of addressed that on newer card) and zero coil whine, the Gaming 6G didn't have coil whine either.
They only downside to the Hybrid is that the stock fan is really loud and can't be controlled by anything, I put a Noctua NF12 on mine and control it automatically with Speedfan based on GPU temps.

But like I said before it really boils down to:
    1. What look you're going for
    2. Cooling
Clock speeds are so easily matched between each cards with basic overclocking.

Oh my god some people are stupid.
Let's put plastic on a VRM so it can melt and warp, are these people for real, is the world flat too, FFS....
These are the same metal heatsinks that are on the reference GTX980ti's, just with a hole cut different.

I just spent 20 agonizing minutes reading all this shit, and there is no evidence to any claims besides App4that.
Do any of you know anything about thermodynamics?

If there is no way for liquid to evaporate it doesn't, a car's radiator evaporates because there is overflow pipes, a none air tight seal on the refill cap, plus the card's engine BOILS the water, not heats it, hence no evaporation.

I have a 3 year old NZXT Kraken x60 here and the thing is still running, has still got all it's fluid in it and shows no signs of dying.
For the "cheap pumps, die in a year" arguments, there's 3 years warranty on the Hybrid cards, get it replaced, it's no different to a fan dying on a air cooled GPU.

I just got rid of my MSI GTX980ti Gaming 6G because it was hot, it would sit around 78c, not to mention drive up my CPU temps because of it dumping hot in into the case.
Idle temps were 50c due to the 0db bullshit they like to use now and turn off the fans until 60c, 50c in a case will drive up cpu temps.
Got my Hybrid yesterday, and my objective opinion is this, the stock fan sucks ass, it's bloody loud, but if you want the max temps of 50c then use it, I on the other hand stuck a Noctua NF-12 on my, have it running at 1200rpm with a LNA and see a max temp of 58c with a 28c ambient (Australian summers suck).
As there is no internal VRM/VRAM temp sensor you can't see what they are running at, but the touch test, well put it this way the metal heatsink is warm, but no where near as hot as the Gaming 6G.
Oh and I got Samsung memory with mine.

Stock fan is too loud for me, from what I was reading on the eVGA forums it's 2000rpm, add that to 120mm and you get a leaf blower.
The Noctua NF-12 at 1500rpm matches the stock fans performance, but still annoyed me (being close to my head because my tower is on my desk), dropped it to 1200rpm the noise is good temps are 8c higher, but still under 60c, and that's fine by my books.
Plus the Enthoo Primo is a beast of a case, but there's so much extra room when air/aio cooling I think a lot of the cool is is being lost and not making it to the top of the case.
Might look at a Thermaltake X9 or Corsair Air 540 (Wife has one of them already).

The EVGA 980Ti hydrid does not have a plastic heatsink touching the VRMs and Vram modules. It is a rather large metal plate which works really well as a heat sink for all those components. The MSI Seahawk is a hydrid (uses water block on the GPU only and fan with a large metal heatsink plate) just like the EVGA.  Please do your research next time.

You're not getting it. Here let me show you how this works. It's called evidence, try bringing some next time.

"a liquid-cooled version of the GTX 980 Ti. The Hybrid's deployment of traditional air cooling over the VRM and liquid on the GPU should afford higher overclocks within the thermal bounds of the GPU."

    http://www.gamersnexus.net/hwreviews/1983-evga-gtx-980-ti-hybrid-review-and-benchmarks

"EVGA has also added a much broader secondary heatsink that makes contact with more PCB-bound components than what’s offered on the Sea Hawk. However, the secondary cooling design works identically with an intake fan, a large aluminum fin array covering critical VRM components and an extensive plate over the GDDR5 modules. For those wondering, the PCB’s layout doesn’t depart one iota from NVIDIA’s reference design."

Well it turned up yesterday, I was like a kid a christmas.

I did try the stock fan before mounting the RAD, man it was loud, it would of been worse inside the Primo.
It did keep the card around 48c outside the case (it's summer here).

So I mounted the rad with the Noctua NF-12 in pull, temps topped out around 55c with the side panel on (ambient 28c), but even the Noctua was loud at the full 1500rpm.
I ended up using the LNA to drop the RPM back to 1200rpm, which is me acceptable, put the temps up to 58c, but again ambient at the moment is 28c, and with the lower RPM you expect temps to be a little higher.
All in all even at 58c heck 60c, it's a awesome card, cooler than anything else out there (besides custom), the GTX980ti Gaming 6G used to sit on 78c, some days I couldn't play it due to the Australian heat, it also dropped my case/cpu temps by 8c.

The reason I can hear the fan is because I have the Enthoo Primo on my desk with the rear exhaust facing my direction, so I can hear it the most.
I would mount it up the top but there's a H110 already there, I could actually fit both rads up there, it's just the tubing isn't long enough on the H110.

Got one today, mine tops out at 55c but I sacrificed cooling for quiet and stuck a Noctua NF-12 on it.
I'm using the LNA so the fan is only spinning at 1200rpm (default 1500rpm) over the stock fan's 2000rpm. (found specs on the eVGA forums).

Still think it's worth buying one over the custom air coolers.
