Hi,
I am trying to RMA my gtx 1080, because it makes these noises when under load ( I recorded the sound and attached it to the post , m4a is sound format made by my phone ), otherwise the card is ok. ( it is recorded with open case and I put phone really close the card, in reality it was not this noisy, with case closed and underload with fans spinning, I couldnt hear it ).
So after I finished testing overclocks and performance of my gtx 1080, I put back in my gtx 980 g1 gaming, started pc and run superposition, in 17th scene, before the benchmark ended, my pc restarted itself, after like 2 seconds after restart, I saw a spark with smoke came out of under the backplate of my 980, so I switched off power supply button instantly. I took the gpu apart and noticed that back side of pcb has burn marks and burned component on it, which has labels written next to it c5090 and c5091, the front side ( where the core is ) seems ok ( didnt check under thermal pads though ). I think these components are just fuses, which blew up in order to protect the card. Picture included, it is horrible quality, but u can see the burned part on it ). Also I think I know why this happends, I left the overclocks same after gtx 1080 and but it might have been too much voltage for the gtx 980, so it blew up.
The 980 is still working, at least at Windows and in games, without problems, I havent tried running superposition yet.
Anyone knows, what those 2 parts c5090 and c5091 I burned are ?
