  1. Hi everyone, Im about to pull my hair out over a VERY frustrating bug. I just built a new system & updates have been working fine until today. As of this morning updates will not move, i managed to manually install every update except; Security Intelligence Update for Windows Defender Antivirus - KB2267602 (Version 1.311.1767.0)' That one i cannot find a working manual installation for anywhere. On top of that nothing in the MS store will download. They all just sit at 0% the same way windows updates are. Before people write out things ive already tried ill list them; reset windows update in services.msc, manually stopped & started in command prompt, reset the windows store, ran troubleshooter, disabled firewall. this is very frustrating because this is a BRAND NEW installation of Windows, less than 3 days installed. it took 3 days to get it updated to this point due to how bad our ISP is acting due to this coronavirus ordeal. All I'm wanting to do is install the xbox app so i can install some of my games & it wont budge, & i dont understand what could have changed in 3 days of updates working fine when i havent installed any other software yet. i really dont want to reformat. i just want to play my games while im stuck inside... ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated.
  2. hey everyone, so got a problem and not sure how to fix it.When i built my system i was on a budget but wanted a good solid state as the OS drive, so i got a 60gb western digital for $30 and a 2TB mechanical for other storage. For the last 2 years thats done me fine, since then ive added 4TB worth of Firecudas for added storage & had windows update set to notify me when there was an update so i could make any adjustments i needed. Well apparently even though i have it set NOT to automatically download or install updates, through out the night Windows did 2 things, for whatever reason it uninstalled SteamVR, then filled the space it was occupying with a partial update file, but then ran out of space because its a huge update. Now i have my SSD completely filled with no way to delete the partial incomplete update file. When i tried to clear up a couple GB of space to make addition room i got a small glimmer of hope because it was going to let me navigate to an external drive. "Sweet!" i thought, until it then told me even though i have plenty of space to download the updates it still needs another 6GB of space on my SSD in order to finish installing the update...everything i delete(though i am pretty sure im out of stuff possible to delete) Windows doesnt even give me the chance to do anything before it starts downloading and fills up what little space i had cleared! So now i cant fix SteamVR at all or update my PC. I've looked through the storage settings in windows 10, and ive free'd up pretty much everything. the only stuff not deleted are the core system files. When navigating to "Apps & Games" even though i choose to show whats installed on "C:" it shows me everything installed on every drive with no way to discern if anything mistakenly installed itself to "C:". In the System files there is the hibernation file which is about 3.15GB thats used to maintain the users state while its sleeping, i never put my computer to sleep, I'm either on it, or its shut down. but i have no way to delete that file and not sure if doing so would cause any issues besides the ability to put it to sleep which like i said i dont use. Does anyone know of any files that arent really used but take up space in the root drive thats safe to delete? I already cleared the 'installer2' folder from the nvidia folder. or does anyone have any good programs that will allow me to safely expand this partition if i were to clone it and install it on another bigger drive? im getting desperate. I know the 60GB drive is small, but at the time of building it, it was perfect, and honestly still would be if this hadnt happened today. & reformatting and reinstalling windows isnt something i really feel like doing because it will just mess up the other 4TB worth of stuff that may have dependencies on that drive. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
  3. ok so i have a rather unique situation, the last few months my wife and i have just been buying an xfinity wifi pass for our internet on our home pc, because well xfinity screwed us over by not installing our service then still billed us so until i pay money i dont owe them i can no longer get actual xfinity service. But my best friend lives right next door(apartment building) and my pc is a foot away from the wall his wireless router is next to, so I have just been paying the $55 a month for 20Mbps internet on my pc. And for the most part it meets every requirement i have for the moment so i dont mind doing it that way. BUT as of 2 weeks ago my wireless adapter for whatever reason keeps roaming to the other xfinity hotspots, one of which is broken & will not assign an IP address, the other of which crawls at 2Mbps which is definitely not worth $55. I turned my roaming aggressiveness down on my driver to 1, even tried making it connect only to 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands separately to see if i can keep it from doing it but it just wont stop roaming to other connections with the same name 'xfinitywifi'. Does anyone know of a way or some software i can download where i can specify which xfinitywifi hotspot i connect to and keep it from roaming to other ones that are farther away for no reason? any help would be greatly appreciated because Xfinity has already told me they cant do anything about it. I'm ready to rip my hair out because now ive paid $55 this month for internet that basically is non-functional 99% of the time. Again thanks for even reading this even if you cant help, i do appreciate it. :)
  4. I ran the pings and they never changed while still experiencing the problem. Ive tried multiple modems and routers, still randomly experiencing this, at least once a day. just wish i could figure out what the problem is and fix it.
  5. So starting a couple months ago every weekend my internet would just go to complete crap, and i just dealt with it because it was easier than dealing with xfinity customer support. But now its happening almost every day and for the life of me cant figure out what exactly the issue is. Can someone help me figure out whats causing this issue? What its doing: Takes forever to fully connect to a site, if it ever connects. It will sit on connecting in the browser for a long time and sometimes never connects, but when it does connect it acts 100% normal, for instance; I can keep hitting refresh until it finally connects to netflix, once im on netflix i can browse and watch movies non stop with no issues, but if i open another tab and try to even go to google it hangs or times out meanwhile my netflix tab can still be working just fine. I initially thought maybe it was the DNS so I manually changed to Cloudflare and then tried Google dns but they all did the same thing. Then to add to the weirdness of the situation, if i run an OpenVPN server i can do everything just fine with no connecting issues at all. So does anyone possibly know what is going on here? I'm betting its an xfinity side thing but i need to figure this out. Oh also I've tested on 3 different modems and its still giving me the same issues. Thanks
  6. Thanks for the fast replies. I have tried turning down the power to 90%. But with that only working once windows is booted i worry it wont help the issue when it goes to boot and sometimes has trouble. I am going to be upgrading to the 600w sfx psu here soon but they are around $200 if i want one with any kind of warranty. Question though IF i were to try the 2 psu solution, which would be ideal to turn off first in order to avoid damage? Should i turn the PC/mobo off and then the gpu, or gpu and then the PC? I would think the 1st one but not really sure.
  7. alright so I built my mini-itx system 2 years ago and am now stuck in a bad position. For whatever reason one of the recent Nvidia updates has caused my GPU to take a lot more juice than when i built the system on load. Problem is because its a mini-itx silverstone case i had to get an sfx psu, which meant my wattage was limited. At the time i got the biggest one that existed which was - Silverstone TEK 450w ST45SF. But now if I'm doing ANY gaming really it either A)crashes the game out or B)If my son is playing a VR game will cause the sensors to stop functioning because its taking too much power from my usb ports. VR games are basically not playable anymore due to this and even some less extensive games like Ark, PUBG etc will stop functioning and crash. Now for the question, I have an idea for a bandaid solution to get me by until i can upgrade the PSU but wanted some thoughts. I have a 750w PSU in my old ATX build that im currently not using, problem is its massive and will not fit in the case what so ever, if i were to hook it up to the GPU on the 8pin so that it was powering only my GPU and have it sitting next to it while my 450w powers the rest of my PC, would i run into issues turning the PC off and then immediately after the GPU or vice versa? I just need to do something because sometimes its even struggling the PC to boot. I've checked the video card out with GPU-Z and PrecisionXOC and nothing seems to be off, fans are still working, its not getting over 30 degrees celcius on idle so i know its not a heat issue. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
