Fate got a reaction from Dabombinable in Intel Core i7 4790 k for $125
Seems really sketchy. Unless he can put it in a system and run a benchmark and a stability test, I wouldn't mess with it.

Fate got a reaction from TheRandomness in 4k video card
Should add AAA titles at max settings to that. Everything else will run perfectly smooth.
@OP why are you going with X79 over X99?

Fate reacted to GoodBytes in Surface Book Reviews are out
The Surface Book new Microsoft convertible laptop with it's unique hinge system that caught people eyes, and build intriguing with its custom Nvidia dedicated GPU which we know nothing about for a long time, as Microsoft kept it under wraps beside the fact that it has 1GB GDDR5, and some 'leak' information from people that were able to run GPU-Z on Surface Book at the Microsoft Store and took a picture of it.
But as expected, if you think this will be your next gaming laptop, you are dreaming. The system is too thin sport a powerful gaming GPU, and the 1GB of memory on the GPU won't pull miracles. Not to mention that the GPU is on PCI-E 4x 3.0 due to the screen detach mount system, as the CPU is inside the screen, allowing you to pull the screen out and use it as a clipboard style tablet.
Also, as I have always said, if you don't care about the pen, then the Surface line is not for you. You can find better and cheaper with other ultrabooks or 2 in 1 systems if you are looking at the Surface Pro line.
That put aside, now reviews are out.
The GPU is a GTX 940M but instead of sporting a 2GB DDR3 dedicated memory, the memory system was changed to take GDDR5 memory, bringing it down to 1GB. So basically, the GPU exchanged memory quantity for a good increase in memory speed.
GPU specs form GPU-Z:
GPU under the keyboard:
Based on reviews the device is fine, solid quality as to be expected. Like most reviews, the pen is simply ignored, because reviewers don't understand the pen (Nothing new here). There has been reports that the screen wobbles a bit on the device, probably due to that it is detachable. More on the device later
So how is performance? Well it lacks game benchmarks, and but this is what there is:
Performance:
Keyboard/Trackpad
The trackpad features 5-point multi-touch tracking, with a glass service, like Apple systems. The benefit of glass surface is that it allows the finger to breath, reducing the collection of finger grease, and the textured glass allows the finger to continuously slide smoothly after extended use. In addition, unlike textured plastic, it doesn't wear down, so over time you'll get a continuous smooth experience.
The trackpad continues with Microsoft Precision line trackpad technology (which some OEM on some models uses) which integrates to Windows to provide proper low latency tracking and gestures to operate the OS like on Apple systems with MacOS.
The keyboard of the Surface Book is said to be very good, but 'clicky', but not as loud as the MacBook Pro latest model. So, if you want truly quiet keyboard the Surface Pro 4 should get you this, or keyboard from business class Dell or Lenovo systems.
From Engadget:
System sound:
The system is quiet. The fan only seam to kick in when you are really pushing the system like playing a game. This continues to fit the profile that Microsoft aims out with the Surface line. Which might explain why Microsoft didn't put a 950M or clockdown 960M. They wanted to be sure that the system, like the Surface line, remain quiet even plugged in and watching videos.
Battery Life
Microsoft rates the Surface Book for up to 12 hours of battery life with the keyboard dock attached.
Engadget battery life test finds to be true:
Surface Book (Core i5, integrated graphics) 13:54 (tablet with keyboard) / 3:20 (tablet only)
Surface Book (Core i7, discrete graphics) 11:31 (tablet with keyboard) / 3:02 (tablet only)
Look like a book:

Fate got a reaction from VagabondWraith in FX-8350 vs i5-4460
Umm... can you link a single CPU benchmark from a reputable source showing an i5-4460 performing crappy compared to an FX chip in a game?
-
Fate reacted to ZetZet in FX-8350 vs i5-4460
No guys, you keep trying to save AMD's name, but you keep forgetting to mention.
FX8350 is very SLIGHTLY better than 4460 in rendering. But it's a TON worse in gaming.
Just stop it. 4460 is hands down better CPU to pick in literally every build.
BS. If you want to livestream you still get 4460, because FX8350 doesn't play games well enough. Streaming is easy. -
Fate reacted to Arwanell in 980 or 390x
thanks
so i browsed a little and found something interesting
If i order from germany, 390X is 420€ and 980's start at 500€+

Fate reacted to ShadowCaptain in UHD Gaming
4k does look extremely beautiful, its absolutely pin sharp and definitely jizztastic, and I think an orgasm is 100% guarenteed
Its a toss up between going for a 144hz 1440p display and a 4k display since 144hz is also just extremely sexy having the game run flawlessly smooth is just a beautiful sight
(lets not forget the ultrawide 1440p displays too though support lacks)
Generally triple card set ups are not recommended, as you get diminishing returns from the 3rd card (but it will help at 4k)

Fate got a reaction from FilipSebik in GTX 970 or R9 390?
390. Windows 10 isn't much more buggy than Windows 7 for me after doing a clean installation. DX12 will potentially bring huge performance gains.
Are you sure you're going to stay at 1080p? Higher resolution monitors offer an amazing gaming experience, and you can't discount DSR/VSR either.

Fate got a reaction from i_build_nanosuits in Is skylake worth it for me?
I would not go with Skylake as it just doesn't have as much value as Haswell right now imo. If you plan to be serious about video editing then an i7 is definitely worth it. If you do want to go for a 390x, I would get a 850W PSU instead, because it'll give you a bit more headroom in case you want to go crossfire in the future. 750W is kind of in the spot where it's cutting it quite close for two 390x's and an i7, and overkill for a single 390x.

honestly OP, if you do more gaming something like this would have better performance in games for the same price, it's a better GPU and the CPU is very close to the 6700K in performance:

I would build that instead, personally. This i7 can handle serious workloads and video rendering is more than acceptable unless you render 30 minutes + videos in 4K or something like that...

Fate got a reaction from PlayStation 2 in 750ti vs R9 270
Not sure on how good that specific 270 is, but they are significantly better than 750ti's (FPS performance wise).

Fate got a reaction from Ocarinajoe98 in Recommended Streaming CPU
I think you should get a 3770k off ebay and overclock it, since you already have a Z77 motherboard. It'll perform better than a Xeon E3 1231 v3 and will be cheaper overall.
-
Fate got a reaction from Darkley in Bigger CPU or more Vram in a laptop for gaming?
4k is silly on laptops imo and you will only be able to play non (new) AAA games at higher settings at that resolution. Go for 1440p/1080p.

Fate reacted to Morgan MLGman in Fx 8350 with MSI 970 Gaming?
The cheapest you should go with that CPU is the Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P, however I recommend getting an ASRock Fatal1ty 970, it's very good for its price and fits an 8350.

Fate reacted to don_svetlio in AMD Vs Intel on Heat
The larger heatspreader actually means that AMD chips run cooler on average but output more heat into the room overall.
