He could probably make a circuit that would change it into a momentary switch.

A quick Google for "key switch" will give you many opportunities. Ebay provides lots of cheap ones: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Key-Rotation-Switch-Security-Lock-Heavy-Duty-Keyed-Power-Ignition-LAY7-11Y-2-New/381746825297?hash=item58e1e24851:g:KH4AAOxyyq5TMpLc https://www.ebay.com/itm/5Pcs-Electronic-Key-Switch-ON-OFF-Lock-Switch-KS-02-With-Keys/272478977879?hash=item3f71033f57:g:~dcAAOSw5cNYR8fI https://www.ebay.com/itm/Security-Power-Locks-Phone-Lock-ON-OFF-Key-Switch-with-2-Keys/301854093029?hash=item4647e7eee5:g:o5wAAOSwa-dWobOI And many more

Maybe they could try to build something different than typical desktops, fx build a custom laptop using desktop, laptop, other generic components, maybe even using game console components.
-
Sure. True, but I think we all agreed all along anyway
-
But that is my point they do not only release one video per month. But I know that they still make more on floatplane... nvm
-
Nut you YouTube income is not per month.
-
but the 2.99 is per month not per video, but still true.
-
It was also meant as a joke. I think it is so weird that the use the exact same motto

Nice thank you for helping me out. I will probably do a build log or something similar when I get to build it- 6 replies

Apple optical SuperDrive and Raspberry Pi
MadsMøller replied to MadsMøller's topic in Hobby Electronics
I have looked further into it, and I can get a MacBook Combo Drive as well as a CD IDE to USB adapter board for right around 25 euro shipped to Denmark. I was just curious whether any one knew if the optical drives from MacBooks (or Mac Mini, or Mac G4) could be used as plug and play with the Raspberry Pi. Thanks for the link though.- 6 replies

Hi forum users. I am going to build a slot loading cd player that can stream music to my Sonos speakers. I am planning to use a Raspberry Pi, and I want to use a slot loading optical drive for aesthetic reasons. The cheapest slot loading drives (including shipping to Denmark) I have been able to find is used Apple SuperDrives. So my question is if it is possible to connect an internal Apple SuperDrive to a Raspberry Pi using a slim sata to usb adapter (or an ide to usb adapter if the drive is older than 2008)?

I know they are not, I am just surprised that no one has come up with a stable solution. People have come up with stable solution for other "not-meant-to-match" systems. From what I've heard from MacBook owners the dual booting on a MacBook is pretty good.
-
I am a software engineering/computer science student, so yeah not an ideal situation. I think it is possible to install a stable dual boot system, it just takes more tinkering than I am willing to put into it. I just can't figure out why after so many years the issues regarding dual booting haven't been fixed.
-
My laptop does not feature 2 drives, and carrying an external drive in order to boot into windows or linux is what I would consider a "bad" or at least not a nice solution.
-
While it might work it is not a very clean/nice solution for a system that is to be used every day, and while on the go.
-
I have uninstalled a few times since I got Win 10, mostly because I switch between Linux and Windows. I tried dual booting using efi installs, but somehow to bootloader got pretty f***ed up a few times. It could be fixed using a live image, but only for a few reboots then it would crash again. I would love to have a stable dual booting system on a single drive, without compromises, but I think it takes more tinkering than I am willing to put into it while I depend on my laptop for university.
-
I would personally love to combine everything into an HTPC and get that up and running using Kodi or something similar, but it will require maintenance down the road

To be honest most laptops are fine for school work. The most important parts in my opinion is a good screen, good battery life and a nice keyboard. As far as I understand the XPS 13 ticks all those boxes. I my self have a Lenovo ThinkPad T450s which I love, interchangeable battery and a nice IPS display. I will probably buy another ThinkPad when it is time to change.
-
I think that option 3 will be the one requiring you to maintain it the most. I don't understand why you can't add a firestick or something similar to the setup they already have and know how to use? I know that my parents would have a hard time adapting to everything being changed at once.

I don't think the price of a new case is that high compared to three high end graphics cards for mining. And unless you can afford the graphic cards at the moment I would wait. You might even be able to resell your micro atx case later (to a Scrap Yard Wars builder ;P )
-
I have used OBS as a screen recorder in the past. I thought it was pretty nice. If you have a GeForce graphics card you can use shadow play as a screen recorder.

Would you mind sharing a "tutorial"?
