  1. I know about that option but with the energy profile i use most of the time that option is set to never turn off the hdd, it's been like that for quite some time and If I check it now it still shows that, so I don't know what else might be the reason. Maybe something is overriding this? Although I made no deliberate change to power settings or anything like that.
  2. A few days back I started noticing that one of the background noise from my PC just died, and could hear something just stop spinning or working in general. Since then, it keeps going off and on while the PC is still turned on and working, and from what I understand it might be the HDD. I have a setup with an SSD as main drive with the OS on it and an HDD for extra storage. The PC itself doesn't stop working, I don't see any errors, even in event viewer I don't see anything out of the ordinary, and If i keep browsing the internet I don't notice anything particular, but whenever I try to start an app installed on my D: drive the pc hangs for a few seconds and you can hear the noise starting back up again, so I would say that it's something related to the HDD...? I decided to open up the case and clean it up a bit, even checked on the connectors and they seem overall ok although I'm no expert. One of the first things I thought about checking was to see the advanced power options in case the suspend drives after inactivity option was on, but it's at 0 minutes, so deactived. I don't know what else could I check, maybe there's some option i'm missing? Maybe I should try a different sata/power cable? I'd like to hear a bit from other people before doing anything more drastic. Thanks!
  3. I'm considering it but I'd really prefer not to unless it's the only practical way, I'm curious to see if anyone recommends something more or less specific. But in the case of a reinstall, wouldn't the VM be acting as one already or would it be "corrupted" by something on the original OS? I tried that in the case it was indeed something with my Windows installation, but at this point I'm not even sure that would solve it at all. Could some registry entry or some "hidden" setting be causing this?
  4. Hello guys, I'm here in hope that i can get some help with my connection speed. I have a 100/20 connection, but for some time i've been having issues with stuff like streaming sites, like Twitch for instance, or general web browsing, especially image heavy sites. Trying to search for a solution I found at the time the testmy.net speedtest and learned a bit about the difference between singlethread and multithread connection, and I kept getting way lower results on the singlethread test, especially in high traffic hours. I've been in touch with my ISP about these issues for quite some time and in a few situations they actually resolved them, but this time I feel like the problem might be on my end and I honestly don't know what to do. Usually my singlethread speeds were all over to place, going from 30mbps down to 2, up again then down, etc. but for the last 2 months, after the guys at the ISP said they basically did what they thought would fix the issue, the results have been stable... at around 10mbps. No more, no less. Now here comes the interesting part: this only happens on my Win10 PC. On my phone i get singlethread speeds equal to multithread ones, at around 70-75. On a friend's PC, with Win10 as well, same story, closer to the actual 90Mbps that actually get to my router. I was ready to think this had something to do with hardware (I also bought a separate network adapter about a year ago, so maybe it was that?), but then i tried a speedtest on a Bootable USB Ubuntu and the results were close to 90 Mbps. So I thought that maybe there was something with my Win10 installation, therefore I tried a win10 VM, but the results were as bad as on my Win10, so I don't really know where the problem actually sits. Somehow, it's like there's a hard cap at 10mbps for singlethread connections and I have no idea how to resolve this. Any ideas? Thanks.
  5. I've shared many screenshots and a few videos during the last year with some friends and they all noticed that there were issues. I also shared the same with the nVidia support, twice, and they refused to acknowledge them. I trust my friends more than the random Alex who was treating me like an idiot who never played games in his life, so I'd say that it's definitely visible, in some games/situations more than others, but still undeniable. And what i showed to my "helpful" nVidia support member was immediately noticed by my friends without even telling them what to look at. Don't doubt it, not even for a bit. They see it; they just don't care.
  6. Does anyone else have this problem even on TV, Smartphone, etc? The other day I was watching a soccer match on my PC, and got frustrated at the extreme jaggines of the lines on the field. I decided to go check on the TV, which is on the other side of the house and never made contact with any computer, and the problem was extremely evident even there. I, at this point, have NO DOUBT AT ALL that this is NOT only a PC problem, be it hardware, software, etc., but that it has to do with something else, and I can't think of any possible cause besides electricity, even if I honestly have no knowledge to back that up. Also, all these people talking about electricity issues made me realize that it's been several months that there's been varying degrees of disservice with the electricity service around here, but obviously I can't just ask the energy distributor to look into something which I don't even know for certain would be the problem.
  7. It might not make sense, but for me (and a few other) the problem exists even on my TV and my smartphone. I'm not saying it's definitely an electricity issue, but what else could it be at this point? Either the problem started appearing on its own on every device, for some obscure reason, or there's something in common to all of them that caused it. But then again, I had an electrician check the status of my outlets and he found nothing; more precise measurements require a sum of money which I'm honestly not willing to pay, since this is all just a theory and I have nor the proof, not the knowledge to assess that it is indeed a power issue. If it is true that there are 2 distinct issues, as theorized a few pages back, then we might be talking about completely different causes and I would understand being totally skeptic of the electricity being the problem; but being in the group of those having more issues and not just on PC, I'm not excluding anything.
  8. Yep, got all of those issues. It's nice knowing I was not imagining it, seeing things even outside of games, but that pretty much confirms it. At this point I think it would be safe to assume it's definitely not an hardware issue. I tried switching up a bit the power strip setup but no luck, no difference for me at least. Waiting on any new info to check if it's worth it to call an electrician or try anything else.
  9. I tried taking my PC to a friend's house, just to make sure if there was a problem with the electrical system at my house, but it made no difference at all. Also tried upgrading BIOS and moving GPU to another PCI-E slot. What I'm noticing lately is that the monitor is making a buzzing/electric-like sound whenever i do something like changing resolution, update frequency and basically anything else that requires the monitor to temporarily "shut down". Knowing that I still tried on another monitor (which doesn't make that sound) and there was no difference, could it still mean something?
  10. I'll try to get my hands on AC Origins in the next few days and see if we end up having the same situation or not. What you said about GTA 5 is in part true indeed, I heard many complains about GTA and probably most of them were not related to this very specific issue, I should try that again and see what happens, but when I played it a few months ago, before the problem appeared for the first time, there seemed to be no particular issue. I'm not an expert either when it comes to electricity but at this point, what else could be the cause? If everything I tried was done correctly: - it can't be the monitor, because these issues show even on other pcs when shown the screens/videos; - GPU, although difficult to believe, might not be the case either, since the same problem showed with Intel Graphics Drivers through MoBo's HDMI; - RAM? I ran a memtest a few weeks ago and there were no errors, not sure if that would even matter, but still... - Software-wise I don't know what else to try, not even nVidia inspector seems to make a change, don't know of any other ways to change graphics settings, maybe some settings in Windows registry? But then again, I formatted and reinstalled and nothing happened. I think it could be either the CPU or the MoBo at this point, but there's many people who claimed to have changed even those parts and still have the same issue; it being the electricity seems crazy, but is there anything else to try at this point?
  11. I think i've tried everything driver-related I could. I reverted to old ones, upgraded them to newest and still got nothing. And no changes in the nVidia panel settings make any noticeable difference, except for FXAA which makes things way too blurry, and not removing the aliasing anyway. I'm actually playing in 1440p (video was probably downscaled while registering, my bad) and see those lines, in 1080p windowed it's usually way worse for what I've tried (mostly been playing Monster Hunter: World, and it's unbearable in windowed 1080p). I'd be ok with the whole "people who upgraded have false expectations", I think that's true for many other aspects, but the point is that both for HotS and Payday I played them a lot already on my current PC (which i got in January 2018) and had no problems for about 6 months, then this happened. I honestly don't believe this is normal, with some settings there are some things, especially related to light and shadows, that give extreme flickering while moving, I refuse to believe that's fine, otherwise most games would be a punch in the eye for anyone not playing on high/ultra settings, and I believe it's not; plus, a few friends of mine who play the same games confirmed me that they were not having such issues, I didn't even need to tell them what to look at and they immediately noticed the difference from my screen (which also leads me to believe it's not monitor-related, otherwise it should not be captured by a screenshot, right?). I know of some other people around various forums who have these issue and I can confirm they have this on games like PUBG, Minecraft and CS:GO, and many others, GTA V is another one that usually appears. On my end, of the games I've been playing recently, I saw problems in MH: World, TEKKEN 7, Divinity: Original sin; hell, even Sims 3 presents these weird pixels "climbing" on the edges of the figures... and while I agreed with you and say it's ok if jaggies showed without AA on, that still happens with every other AA option, no idea why. But then again, I suspect this has some other culprit, since I swear I can see weird effects even only in videos...
  12. Hello! For the past 3 months I've been having issues related to bad aliasing, white edges, blurry/ugly shadows and so on with pretty much every game. I'll give you some examples: #1 - MGS: Ground Zeroes Ugly and excessively blurry shadows around Snake's edges, and some white outlining. #2 - Heroes of the Storm Aliasing around the character's model, especially around the staff, with white lines even more visible; horrible aliasing on the reflection through the terrain. #3 - PAYDAY 2 (youtube) Horizontal white lines "moving" while distant and out of focus; jagged edges on the building on the left, with the same white lines around them. These are just few cases but something similar happens in pretty much every game - and, possibly, even just in videos. I don't know how this started, I just know that this happened out of the blue one day, without me ever touching video drivers or anything. Things I've tried since then include: changing in-game settings; changing nVidia panel settings; using nVidia inspector; upgrading drivers; downgrading drivers; clean uninstall (using DDU) and install of drivers; reinstalling Windows 10 with full formatting of the drives... I don't know what else to try. Honestly, I'm not even sure it's a GPU specific problem: i tried reseating the GPU, I also tried using MoBo's HDMI output with Intel's integrated graphics, but the problem still appeared in every game I tried. PC specs include i7 8700k, GTX 1080, 16 GB RAM @3000MHz, Corsair RM750i power supply, 1 SSD + 1 HDD. Every suggestion is appreciated, thanks.
