  1. My experience a PH#2 will cover 85-90% of PC builds. every now and then I'll need a PH#1. I also got one of those 80+ tip precision screw driver kits off amazon for like 20 bucks, (comes in super handy for laptops and small electronics)
  2. Thanks for the suggestions, I'm using a tmobile mvno (tello) so unlocked GSM (forget which bands, but most newer unlocked should work fine.
  3. I dont want to spend a crap ton, I'm using a pixel 4a, it is still doing everything I want it too, battery is holding up amzingly well, I have no complaints at all. I just use it alot with banking/credit cards and I want to keep security updates going, but that isnt going happen. I thought about root/rom but that became such a chore when I had the nexus 5x because most of my bank/credit card apps refused to run (even with magisk hiding the root) so I'm leaning towards a 6a (renewed from amazon, maybe new.) but I've read so many complaints about the finger print sensor.. I got my wife an S21 renewed and she seems hapy with it, i'm just not a fan of samsungs UI.. and the bloat. So in closing, do I keep the 4a and root/rom it, save a buck on the 6a, or spend a buck on the 7a? do you think I would be safe to keep going with my current setup till the 8/8a comes out so the price on the 7/7a drops some more? and just to rant, I tried to post this in/r/googlepixel and evidently buying advice is a prohibited topic over there, I'm finding reddit to be less and less useful with every sub having some asinine rule against everything. For fks sake, its a forum about pixels, of course people are going to want help deciding on what to buy.
  4. Its been so long since i ripped a DVD lol. Hell I cant remember the last time I even turned on my blu-ray player. streaming has really spoiled me for convenience. I need to get an external Blu-Ray and back up my bd-discs
  5. Isnt the Q6600 just such a great little beast of a CPU? I still have one chugging along too ^_^ (its relegated to back up status since I got a newer computer but still. I built it before my son was born, he turns 15 this year, and it still works. Been overclocked to 3Ghz its whole life.)
  6. Yea it was decent upgrade over what the computer came with
  7. First I would figure out how many devices, are you getting all the hardware for them (Will you be having to handle warranty claims, etc later?) are you vending the software? if your just placing hardware and running cable, I would say 5 grand. If they are expecting more services after install, then that would go into a service contract, and would have to be negotiated in and of it self. There is a reason I have stopped being what amounts to a general contractor for technology Its a pain in the ass.
  8. Some people claimed you would need to but I got the cooler from a Z440 (which is a much better designed air cooler than the Z420 for like 20 bucks of ebay) and have had no issues yet. Only issue I get is my graphics card will overheat a bit if I dont use afterburner to run the fan at 100% (its an Nvidia Quadro somthing or other, roughly equivalent to a 1060 so not really meant for gaming) this is the heatsink just search ebay or amazon for Z440 heat sink.
  9. Ebay, craigslist, facebook market place, any online site that sells used PC parts maybe?
  10. How about Tomb Raider: Rebirth where Laura is resurrected after dying in ancient tomb, and is then found 1000 years later buy a new tomb raiding person, who turns out to be the decent of Her butler from the first game, and was regaled by tales of Laura's exploits, so she fan girls through out the game...and its sci-fi now. So they leave Earth and explore tombs on mars or something.
  11. Just to throw it out there, the Z420 with v2 motherboard will support an E5-2690 v2 10c/20thread @3.00Ghz ($29USD cpu) I'm using it to post this ^_^
  12. ... oh man... I'm sorry, but I was being sarcastic, ACME is a fake company from old loony toons cartoons.. its a running gag, its an acroym that means "A Company that Makes Every thing"
  13. Sounds to me like you are trying to record a concert or something that has banned the use of recording devices...maybe try google..or amazon..or your local acme spy shop..
  14. We have used these at my work with good results assuming you are just more or less trying to share the screen. https://www.amazon.com/Extender-Splitter-Multiple-Single-Management/dp/B07NQMYQ92/ref=sr_1_6?crid=2G572A75S5WK0&keywords=ethernet+to+hdmi+video+distribution&qid=1666703697&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIyLjAyIiwicXNhIjoiMC4wMCIsInFzcCI6IjAuMDAifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=ethernet+to+hdmi+video+distrobution%2Caps%2C124&sr=8-6
  15. Yea, I stopped trying to understand consumer think after I left retail. I'm tech support now, training for cybersecurity and information assurance. so I'm hoping to get to a point where i can just say "because" and thats good enough lol
  16. I should have been more clear, i was speaking strictly from a consumer stand point. I'm all for software being 0.0.0.0.1alpha\beta versioning. I'm a technical minded person, I understood the old 802.11 then letters system better than the new marketing tactic. It helped that I used to work retail electronics when all that was happening, so i had to understand it to explain it to people. But I got out right when USB3 hit the market so I never had to really get into the new USB and wifi standards naming conventions and what features that had.
  17. from a purely marketing perspective, the average consumer wont understand the Gbps rating, so lets split the difference, and just go with USB20, USB40, USB80, etc. That would work even with the letter desginations. USB-C40 etc.
  18. Thats all fine and dandy, but it would have been so much easier if the USB people had just stuck with a single USB# and then a speed. (excluding USB1, because no one would think to name the first thing 1) USB2 = 480 USB3 = 5Gbps USB3.1 = 10Gbps USB3.2= 20Gbps USB4 = 40Gpbs USB4.1 = 80Gps and so on. maybe do away with the .# and just do whole numbers, so 3.1 would be 4, 3.2 would be 5, etc.
  19. This would probably fall under a companies legal department, who would probably never run a scenario on this, but probably should. In reality, it would still probably be the cyber team that factors this scenario into their training and typical regiment.
  20. https://partkeepr.org/ https://www.selecthub.com/inventory-management/free-inventory-management-software/ https://www.thesmbguide.com/free-inventory-management-software http://www.thecanvus.com/ I googled free inventory control systems. honestly, you may want to look into hiring a person that knows inventory control systems, or consulting with another business that would be willing to help get you going in the right direction.
  21. when I was in HS (in the USA) we had SkillsUSA-VICA don't remember what VICA stood for but the PC/Tech part was more or less centered around the A+ CompTIA material. Professor Messer https://www.professormesser.com/) has free videos that cover all of the A+ exams, there are paid options that allow you to download offline versions of the videos as well as course notes and other printed material. a More entertaining video series is from Mike Meyers which is on udemy for 19.99 right now (its two parts each part is 19.99) There is also a companion book that can be purchased ( https://www.amazon.com/CompTIA-Certification-Guide-220-1001-220-1002/dp/1260454037/ref=sr_1_4?crid=3B7MDYR78HRBT&keywords=A%2B&qid=1654179870&sprefix=a%2B%2Caps%2C182&sr=8-4) There are also youtube videos etc. the A+ touches on linux, Mac and basic networking and security as well. good luck.
  22. As far as I can find, there is no driver support for anything less than windows 10 on Ryzen. It simply wont work. Same as with intel 7th gen and newer systems.
  23. this reminded me, that 20 years after graduation I have never used this level of math in my day to life. I worked retail for 13 years, managed departments, was responsible for ordering and inventory, etc. I now do tech support for a college, running network cable, setting up hardware and software, etc. the most I ever need is counting and estimating lengths of cable. I don't even remember what a reciprocal is math is racket if you aren't going into an engineering field
  24. I'm not sure you where trying to respond to me, I was pointing out the falsehood of the post I quoted, by posting the federal law. Because generally speaking federal law supersedes state laws. from Cornell Law "Article VI, Paragraph 2 of the U.S. Constitution is commonly referred to as the Supremacy Clause. It establishes that the federal constitution, and federal law generally, take precedence over state laws, and even state constitutions." (https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/supremacy_clause)
