I don't have a licence/vehicle so I don't have to worry about that, I normally take public transit, fare would be $3.25 & get a transfer that lasts 90 minutes that depending on how far I go would only be enough for 1 way so $6.50 max to take a trip to get something locally unless they are willing to meet somewhere closer to me.
My current RX 470 is 1 of 2 I got for $114 total in December 2018/January 2019, Bought 1 off eBay but when it arrived it was not as described as it had a mining BIOS that seller had made no mention of, filed a INAD case, seller responded & apologized saying he had lots of cards to sell & only 2-3 had modded BIOS & he didn't remember what ones they were, he had 1 left that he checked & didn't have a modded BIOS, he could either send the one he had left & if it works I could keep both or I could return the card I received for a full refund, I accepted the 2nd card & it works (the one I currently have in my computer), only issue is temps hit 90-91*C under load while gaming but still works, so I got 2x MSI Armor OC RX470 4GB cards for $114 CAD total, that would be like $57 CAD each, if I were to do the TLC to flash a BIOS on the 1 card & do fresh thermal paste on both, I'm sure I could perhaps sell them for $80 each for $160 total for like $46 profit, or if a EVGA Supernova G2 550W is enough, I could possibly do Crossfire.

Considering the Radeon HD 6850 is the lowest of the 2 cards i'm offering that's what i'll be offering, just looking for a 2nd opinion & any idea what each card would be worth, i'd assume the GT 710 would be worth less than the Radeon HD 6850 though it may be the other way around or damn close to par.

TV is a Sanyo DP42841, 42" 1080p 60 Hz, I can't find info on what version of HDMI but from what I can tell it released April 2010, newest version of HDMI at that time was HDMI 1.4a that released March 2010 (1.4 was June 2009) so HDMI 1.4 is the newest it'll likely have, no need to worry about HDMI 2.0
also, from what I can tell, RX 540 was OEM only, RX550 was lowest that was released on the retail market.

TL;DR: would something higher end such as a GTX 1050/1050ti/1650/RX 460/560 really be needed for Netflix/Amazon Prime Video or would something lower end such as a GT 710/1030/RX 550 be enough?
    Just wondering?
I have a old HP prebuilt (Pavilion a6345f) that was bought new in 2007 with a Core 2 Quad Q6600 & 3GB DDR2 (2x 512MB, 2x 1GB) on a ASUS IPIBL-LB (Benicia) motherboard along with the original Bestec 300w ATX power supply, It had a GTX 750 in it at one point until the computer got replaced with something newer & the GTX 750 got transferred to that so I'm looking for a replacement GPU that would work with it to watch Netflix & Amazon Prime at 720p minimum, 1080p preferred. I have a Radeon HD 6850 & a spare RX 470 4GB (RX 470 needs BIOS flashed) that I'm hoping to trade on my local classifieds for something to use, either a GPU that would work with the old PSU or trade the RX 470 for a PSU that would work with the HD 6850. While waiting for replies from my local classifieds I figured I'd do some further research to see what would work.
Asking around on Reddit about GPUs with HDMI & no additional power required, I got the following replies/suggestions

I volunteer at a Habitat For Humanity ReStore that accepts e-waste here in Ontario, i went back yesterday after 3 weeks off & found the following in the e-waste bin:
Gigabyte X58A-UD3R with a i7-920 in it, old custom PC, Cooler Master case(never took pics of), NZXT semi-modular PSU, ASUS M5A97 motherboard with a Cooler Master tower cooler (perhaps a 212 of some version or similar, never removed so unknown CPU, it's AM3+ so perhaps a FX of some kind?), Gigabyte GTS 450 1GB GDDR5 & 4 sticks of Patriot G2 RAM, also a old eMachines T3828 PC (that i'm not sad about as it likely deserves to go due to how old/low end it is (Intel Celeron D 335, 80GB 7200RPM HDD, CD/DVD combo drive (looks like it was replaced with a DVD-RW, can't tell from pic though) & 256MB of DDR SDRAM))

If I were to go for it, I should have the money tomorrow to pick it up then or on the weekend.
Edit: Welp, throw that hope away, I replied back & said "I can do $85 tomorrow or on the weekend, just to confirm but even at that price the OtterBox would be included & there's no issues with the phone?", got this reply back "Sorry, it's no longer available."

as it is right now, I can't afford the up front cost until my sister-in-law pays me the money ($250) she owes me, if she ever pays me back for it at all, so I'm mainly looking at monthly costs for $0 on a 2 year term of $40/month (what I'm currently paying). If/when she does pay me back before I run out of patience & grab the Moto G6 Play then that would open up more possibilities such as a phone from eBay or use it as a up front payment for something from Freedom, though the only option it would open up currently is the Moto G7 Power, for the $45/mo ($40/mo with digital discount) I could get it without MyTab for $199 upfront, however for a little more, a Moto X4 from eBay with better specs then the G6 Play or G7 Power would be possible, I just double checked the X4 you linked & it don't ship to Canada, US shipping only so I had a look & the 2 cheapest sorting by low->high price+shipping I could find is a manufacturer refurbished for C $211.09 after shipping & import fees (or best offer) and there's a new amazon prime exclusive model for C $207.50 after shipping:

I don't have a drivers licence so a no go for me: https://www.grt.ca/en/about-grt/employment-opportunities.aspx#bus-operator
    Looking at https://www.glassdoor.ca/Salary/Grand-River-Transit-Salaries-E657138.htm
    It would be $29-32/hour

Edit: Just thought about it, $47.50 would be the max/month instead of $40, if I use any bit of data up to 50MB on my Virgin plan a $7.50 data fee gets added so it would be $47.50 instead of $40.
Edit 2: Just noticed the G6 Play is the 16GB model so it would likely only have 2GB of RAM, with that in mind another possible option could be the LG X Power 3 (16GB, 2GB RAM), on the list of phones it's listed currently as $0 with $5/mo MyTab on $40+ plans however when I select it there's a minimum $10+tax ($11.30, same price as a sim card) upfront payment with the $45 ($40 after digital discount) Freedom 2GB plan or the $48 ($43 after digital discount) Freedom LTE+3G 9.5GB Promo plan.

Update: Search for a phone is going on hold for a couple of weeks, my sister-in-laws dad is in the hospital up in Ottawa & I ended up lending her $250 to go towards the plane ticket to be with him so I won't have the money to buy a phone until she is able to replay the loan, in the meantime there's a Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime around that my mom had that no one is currently using and was basically kept as a backup so I could use it until I get the money for another phone.

Lord Letto reacted to corrado33 in I compared Intel CPU price/performance all of the way back to LGA 775 with current e-bay prices, here are the results.
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19YDr0WKPgzE39pitdgKJORKYWaWwhfJS8ik94W0Qge0/edit?usp=sharing

I like to do @home projects. (Like folding, but just the ones that run in Boinc.) So therefore I'm always on the lookout for cheap motherboards and CPUs and cases. I've typically always looked for LGA 775 boards because the CPUs for them are freaking dirt cheap. But I've been wondering lately, would I be better off moving up a generation or two and just buying a lower end CPU? What does the high end QX9650 LGA 775 CPU compare to on say an LGA 1156 board, or an LGA 1155 board or even an LGA 2011 board?

Well, now you can answer those questions and many... many more with this spreadsheet. How much has Intel improved from generation to generation with a similar chip? Which CPUs are overpriced? Which CPUs are a bargain? How do passmark benchmarks compare to geekbench or userbenchmark?

Now, I must let you know that this sheet won't be particularity helpful if you want to build the "ultimate fastest gaming 4k 144Hz machine." But if you want to build someone in your family a good PC this holiday season and don't know where to start, this is a GREAT place to do it.

Some of the questions you can answer with this spreadsheet are listed below.
What is the best price/multi-threaded performance hyperthreaded quad core processor if I have to buy a motherboard as well? What is the best price/single-core performance dual core processor if I have to buy a motherboard and 8 gigs of ram?  What is the absolute best price/performance CPU for my current motherboard?  I have a spare LGA XXXX motherboard lying around, and I want to build a computer for my INSERT RELATION HERE, I don't want to spend a lot but need a CPU, which should I buy?   Now, I would love if some of you would help me fill in the blanks on this spreadsheet. As you've probably noticed, I have not included ANY AMD processors. Why? Because I'm lazy and I typically buy Intel. However, if someone wanted to add some of those, I'd certainly be happy to give you access to do so. I also haven't listed EVERY single intel CPU all of the way back to LGA 775. I cherrypicked some from each socket type. Adding a CPU simply consists of looking up the passmark, userbenchmark, and geekbench scores (as well as processor stats like cores/clocks etc) and inputting them into the sheet. The formulas should do the rest.) Also I labeled the new skylake-x chips (the ones that don't work on 170 boards) as 1151b.

Again, if you are serious about contributing, please shoot me a message and I'll give you editing access. I would really love to have AMD on here (or even the rest of the intel chips I missed), but I'm just not familiar with AMD architecture.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy. I certainly enjoyed making it, and I will certainly be using it to put together some cheap but bad-ass PCs soon.

Also there are a freaking ton of hidden columns with the raw data and some processing steps data, so if you want to see the raw benchmark scores just unhide the columns.

The 4GB stick and the lower 4GB of the 8GB stick works in dual channel while the remaining (upper) 4GB would be single channel.

Lord Letto got a reaction from Hip in Does this CPU fit my mainboard?
And a BIOS update requires a supported CPU, so to update a B350 or X370 board to use the Ryzen 7 2700X a Ryzen (3/5/7) 1(2/3/4/5/6/7/8)00(X) CPU would be needed. In the case of the OP, it's a newer chip (Devil Canyon) unlike the older version (i7-4770K that's a Haswell) that would work with Z87 boards out of the box, so a BIOS update would be needed to use the newer CPU or buy a newer board (Z97).
so for the OP, his options would be to replace the 4790K with a 4770K unless he got a Maxwell CPU to update the BIOS or replace the Z87 board with a Z97.
