Hey there. I used to be a privacy driven root junkie like you, back in the xprivacy days. Could not keep it up because I'm too busy with work/family these days to wrangle with all the workarounds and inconveniences of root based solution.

However there ways to get back most of the control you want without root.

    1. For charging control, most phones these days should have a battery protection option, although you cant set a custom limit. With Samsung, the limit is 85%, and through Samsung's routines app, you can automate when to enable/disable fast charging (for example triggered by wired or wireless charging, or by time). The only other brand I can confirm to have charging limit is Sony's xperia lineup.

    2. For system-wide adblocker I use Rethink which uses a local hosted VPN that allows routing of traffic through real VPN. Options include wireguard, orbot, socks5 and https connect proxies. It lets you use Rethink DNS which is user configurable DNS with a myriad of blocklists like NextDNS, but with less detailed options. You can also set your own DNS, including NextDNS, through DoH/DNScrypt/DNS proxy if you dont like the default DNS options.

You can choose which apps to route through VPN. You can choose which to completely bypass Rethink. You can block internet access on a per-app basis. You can set IP/port and DNS rules on a per-app basis (only line by line, you cannot set block lists per app) You can also isolate traffic per-app and monitor network logs by app and device wide.

    3. For your desirables like advanced file access, permissions management, and GPS control, I have yet to delve into non-root options (I dont see a need for myself currently) however you can look into shizuku apps which access system APIs directly without needing root, allowing them to do things that regular apps cannot. Search "github awesome-shizuku" perhaps an advanced charging control app is available that I am not aware of.

I use MiXplorer for file access, I find it sufficient without requiring root or shizuku. Maybe give it a go.

I hope you find this info useful. Keep up the fight for your privacy 🙂

Just added "only works for single player games" to the post. And why is it against the rules? It's my copy of the game, so I can do whatever I want with it. And since it's not multiplayer games, it won't affect other players. People really need to chill out and be a little more flexible in terms of rules sometimes. Also, I don't care, I'll just make some other posts within the limits of the rules, or even login with a different Google account if this one gets banned, so I can continue promoting stuff that helps out other people, again, following the stupid rules, if that's what it takes. The forum should block people by their IP address, so they can't login with a new account, to prevent spamming and manually having to block people over and over.

Early in the time when LMG was starting to get into serious product design and manufacturing, Linus mentioned one thing he really wanted to try to make was a battery charger, since there were so few good ones out there. This is something I've complained about for years, and it has kept me from using rechargeables as much as I would like to. I hope this can be brought forward from whatever distant back burner it has been put on. I think it could make a big difference to helping people use fewer disposable batteries to have a charger made with all the right engineering and bells and whistles, in the LTT mode. Personally would buy three. One for me, one for parents, one for my work studio.

Requirements for a good battery charger (to me):

The ability to handle AA, AAA, and ideally (since it doesn't actually take much different in design) C cells. The ability to charge them singly or in pairs. The ability to charge at least four at once, but 6-8 is better. High quality set-and-forget charging (so it doesn't matter if you leave the batteries in place). A built-in, super-quick battery tester that gives actual V info. The ability to mount it on a wall or a desk. Visual indicators of full charge. Ideally, also, some circuitry to do whatever revival of overused batteries is possible with the current generation of NiMHs.

"Take note, every other company on the planet - THIS is what good customer support looks like."

Nothing is perfect and most other companies wouldn't entertain the thought of offering anything for a backpack that "won't stand on its own, advertised or not," so this is lightyears ahead in terms of customer support. Keep this up and my wardrobe may soon be replaced entirely by LTT clothing. 😄

Nord1ing reacted to HenrySalayne in Wan show more of a 3hr long infomercial /hype rally for LTT store than it is a podcast
I wouldn't be so sure about it. LTT store has a ton of SKUs, which create a lot of overhead.
For example, the 21 oz water bottle with the spout lid as a semi-custom design will cost around $3 to manufacture in China with an additional $0.30 for the custom packaging. Then you have shipping to Canada, import fees, each SKU needs to be stored and is finally put in some form of package material for shipping to the costumer costing money as well. This doesn't include the workforce to keep the warehouse running, warehouse rent, the man-hours for product design and accounting, payment fees and a whole lot of other non-directly attributed costs (damaged goods, returns, costumer support in general, tools, etc.)
Selling this bottle for $9.99 is probably not at all a sustainable business model.

They are selling the 21 oz and the 64 oz bottle for the same price. Considering that the 64 oz bottle is more expensive to manufacture (more material) and way more expensive to ship (at least 3 times the volume of the 21 oz bottle, so each shipping container can hold probably only 1/3 or 1/4 as many bottles). This tells us that they probably have a healthy margin (for the non-discounted pricing) and that the overhead costs in Canada are a pretty big chunk compared to the raw manufacturing cost.

Building numbers don't show up on maps at all.

Is there a way to turn them on as it was before? Or google reached peak minimalism and next step in "improvement" of UI is removing buildings and roads?

Using another map service is not a solution, none of them has even 1/10th of content that google maps offer in terms of roads, buildings, public transport, stores, reviews. I tried to use Apple Maps but it's useless. OSM also doesn't have data I need. Google maps 3 years ago were totally fine.

I had hoped this wouldn’t get political, but I know it is hard with subjects like this. Unfortunately my country left the EU.

My question is who decides what information is valid, and what is not? Some things are easy, but it gets more challenging with the other 90%. Many things can be attributed to locale too, what is frowned upon in one country is normal in another. That is what worries me with this kind of censorship. The EU do have the power to fine these companies, but is that actually going to change anything?

I am often torn on things like this. While I agree that any potentially dangerous miss-information should be removed, often it is a very fine line. History is often written by the winners, and I fear we may end up having that going on here.

Track these two values and see if they increase, could be that the SSD isn't getting a proper/clean power off for some reason and data in the DRAM cache isn't being written to NAND causing corruption and the device being marked as bad.

Also the ratio of Power on Recoveries vs Clean Power On is quite bad. Compare these against your other PM883.

The other thing to try is replacing the SATA cable, rare but can be a problem.

Nord1ing reacted to doom969 in Gamers Nexus alleges LMG has insufficient ethics and integrity
    Hey all,
I debated before posting because (for a reason that eludes me), people are really emotionally involved in this and feel the need to defend one side or the other as if everything was black and white..
(long time lurker, been listening to ltt, gn, floatplane for as long as I remember)
disclaimer : I dont dont endorse any side, I dont excuse mistakes and laxism from ltt, madison allegations need to be investigated, and actions need to be taken.

So the point of this thread :
The thing that bugs me, and nobody is talking about :
I think we can all agree that GN had this bullet in the chamber for a while and was just looking for an excuse to shoot it.
Then the offhand comment from ltx came, and it was all the reason they needed.

Of course, the didnt moneytize the first video, but the answer one was.
GN gained more views in the past week than all year prior, same with subscribers..

So.. yeah, it is really convenient, that at the time GN announces an investment of 250k, they just happen to really need to slap lmg in the face right now. While of course, the fact they are gonna benefit a lot from it, from their position in the algorythm, to the subscribers, to the views is juste a coincidence. Lets not be blind to the fact that they are making massive amount of money from it.

My point is : Linus is not your friend, he shouldnt be your hero, LMG is a massive (100 000 000$) company, and you shoulndt have a strong parasocial relation with them.

The same holds true for GN, they ALSO are a big company, and are mostly driven by income. Dont kid yourself, Steve has a massive chip on his shoulder and was waiting for the chance to step on lmg to get higher.
This is no coincidence and was driven by money and business, not "a desire to help Linus and protect the consumer".

This is just the video that could earn the most and help the channel the most.
I just find it a bit hypocritical that GN will talk about ethics while pulling this move.
Linus might think he read the room wring, Steve read the room right and his timing was perfect.

You should hold LMG accountable, you shouldnt glorify GN.
Think for yourself, have multiple sources, you dont need a tech king, or jesus or whatever to tell you what to think.
Enjoy those videos for what they are, but bet aware that both channel have an agenda, and both are driven by business decisions.

I instead used the onboard gpu and installed the intel arc driver, after that everything works.
