Jayl0cked got a reaction from MaverickZA in Gamers Nexus alleges LMG has insufficient ethics and integrity
Steve is definitely not to blame for the errors and the actions of LMG.
Tim I don't think is to blame for his comments either i think they were valid and in light hearted jest.. it was just bad timing, also they're plan moving forward may very well be to test newly every card at every release and that's a good goal to have.
Had there not been the big billet labs thing and the other factual errors slip by QC Tim's comment probably would have just gone by the wayside and Steve probably would not have ever responded.

That being said I think as a viewer we have to look at Steve with a critical eye here as well..
Steve has a vested interest in posting what he did - while fully true, and accurate. It doesn't change the motive behind it.
Steve's business and viewers are somewhat threatened by Linus LABS project. They're venturing into territory and buying equipment and hiring engineers and experts that gives them a leg up over GN. IF they do venture into more written content that also threatens Steve's bottom line.

In my opinion when Steve came out with his stance during the whole trust me bro controversy which i think was a big nothing burger imo. Because i largely agree with Linus take on warranties and because the history of their Support staff making it right is there It wasn't important to me. Legalese is just that Legalese, actions are more important when it comes to product quality control. But back to Steve, his take about treating LMG like any other company again while valid comes from a more hidden motive of the fact that they're more now than ever before a direct competitor to GN. You can't tell me there isn't some motives behind taking that stance. Valid and all it may be... but LMG and Linus have unapologeticly said that well if what they're doing threatens smaller creators businesses because of their sheer size and spending power he's not all that sorry about it because he has a team to support and a business to run. It makes sense for GN to go in on LMG to sort of protect their brand from being steamrolled by LMG labs down the line. If you question the integrity and validity of their testing procedure you help hold on to your core audience. And look what it has done how many GN fanboys have been lambasting LMG going to arms over this whole thing. How many disingenuous actors are saying how they're unsubbingn unfollowing etc  none of which is actually supported by facts.  Again, to make it perfectly clear it's deserved and the criticisms are valid. But I don't discount the motives behind them as a viewer. At the end of the day they both run businesses using Youtube as the medium to generate revenue.
I just hope Steve doesn't make any glaring errors for the next while because someone is likely gonna hit back at them. Probably not LMG but his content will likely be under scrutiny as well. And there's already a smaller creator out there whose pointed out similar aspects to GN as LMG in terms of taking sponsorship talking point videos after having a somewhat favourable review of a product. So you know the saying those in glass houses shouldn't cast stones. Steve better be damn accurate for the next while.

Except its probably the truth. Don't pretend ur on some kind of moral high ground, grow up.

She literally waited to piggy-back off the GN thing. Grow a brain and think for yourself, don't just go along with what society wants, society is completely stupid these days anyways.

How many times has a woman come forward with sexual assault allegations towards a company or musician just for everyone to find out it was consensual and the woman was just attempting to make some money off said celebrity? I understand that isn't ALWAYS the case but it is the case most of the time.

Do you really think if such seriously f***ed up s*** was happening at LMG, that they wouldn't have had a serious allegation or multiple a long time ago?

Now Im not saying LMG in innocent in everything - from the very beginning of this thread I have been agreeing with GN and the facts they have brought forward and I think LMG needs some serious work and to back off trying to make so many videos so quickly. But this whole Madison thing is just some he-said-she-said-bulls*** and you know it.

Now if Im proven wrong then that really sucks and LMG will have lost every ounce of my respect, and they have already lost a fair bit of it. But I seriously doubt its a real thing. This crap happens all the time ans its always just that - crap.

No one seemed to care about the video mistakes before GN brought it up and while yes, the billet labs incident was a big fuck up, at the end of the day a fuck up is all it was.
They've made a series of bad mistakes in a row and I'm grateful that GN has brought attention to it. Linus's initial reaction was very poor, but he's right that they are just people and they make mistakes. You aren't perfect either.
The majority of people seem to be acting as if they've been funding terrorism or something this whole time.
    Just my 2 cents.

Ya know; that's the problem with rthe seller not a corporation - maybe he never experienced the problem in his workload, or he knew the fault and was a scumbag. But that's not a problem with tech reviews on youtube. What they give you is a rough number what to expect and any major issues that they can find while they test the card. Its nearly impossible to deep dive into every model of 1070 or whatever that's out there.
If you are buying used, you should know the risk.
Yes, tech reviews don't give the full story on youtube, that's why somethong like googling exists.

For example, the VW Golf is the best selling car in Germany. I was looking to buy one a few years back and looked at reviewa and conparison tests ro see how the car stacked up against the competition. Did I buy it straight after the review? NO!
After the rough idea i got from these tests i even test drove one or two to verify their claims and simultaneously scrolled through many forumy to find any potential failure point of the car, "known" faults. And voila, this particular model I was looking at had a problem with the valve chain, where the tensioners would break fairly soon (if I remember correctly). Of course no one mentioned it in the reviews. So should I be mad about reviewers? No! They have a bloody sample size of one, the chain didn't break on all cars but had a higher likelihood to break and frankly, even professional reviewers cant test every engine and gearbox combination of literally every car out there for 50000miles in at least 10cars each. Am I out of warranty and on my own if I purchased it as a used car? Yes! That's life, thats why I wouldnt pay as much for a new car than an used one.

You see where I'm going? Buy used, the have trust in the seller or verify its working before sending money over. And googling and forums help to find lesser known faults of specific models.

    A letter to Linus:
First off - Thanks for all the laughs and drops (lol) over the past 10 years Linus. You've always done things your way and forged ahead and that's made things interesting to watch! Congrats on 10M!
I hear you though about real life problems versus you just being a youtube channel that sells some computer hardware at the end of the day we all know that. But, even if you don't realize it's more than that when it comes from you.

I do hope you take more time off and spend time with your kids, engage in their passions, and show interest in their hobbies because honestly man in life your kids and wife are the most important thing and that's all you got at the end of the day. They're the ones that are going to remember you and those little moments like that time dad and I drove to my spelling B or baseball practice or whatever are the most important. I know i cherish the drives to hockey practice and soccer practice, drum lessons, etc with my dad i learned a lot about life from him on those drives. It wasn't about the sports or the activities it was about the time with my dad The channels will be fine and all of your hard work has paid off your staff are amazing and the channels imo have never had better content in all the years

You can genuinely tell when you didn't go to CES this year the content felt fresh because you weren't there on no sleep feeling burnt out trying to deal with company stuff while filming videos that are written on the spot, etc, Riley, James and Alex did a fantastic job. Every time you come back from a vacation the content you film the week back is always better imo. I can tell you have a renewed passion again. The videos lately with Alex on the red camera rebuild and the checking out the equipment and how Alex is using it shows you can tell you're a bit like a proud dad watching his staff grow up.

Here's why it matters more coming from you:
Ultimately though Linus. You are a beacon. Content like yours paved the way for more creators and you've popularized and made it acceptable socially to be a big nerdy geeky kid who likes computers and wears socks and sandals. It's because of your face in mainstream youtube culture that kids watch and go hey it's okay to be me. It's okay to stand up for what I believe in and to love what I love and be comfortable doing it. You've taught me to be more comfortable in my skin and care less about what others think about me. And I am willing to bet there many young kids who are lost in middle school who see one of your videos and then follow your channel and come to realize that there is more out there and there is hope for them. You may not realize it  but you provide that hope. And you do it by being authentically, unapologetically YOU and dude I appreciate you.

The main thing is Linus no matter what you do or where you go people will be there to support you because you are honest and genuine and those of us who've been fans over the years we know it and we support you because we respect what you got to say and the place it comes from. Yea a kid just building a computer along with a Linus guide might not seem like a lot but it truly does make a difference and now that you are and have been in a position to be recognized by a sick and dying kid whose make a wish was to work with Linus on his wish that's the moments in life you get to relish in your hard work and success and realize you truly did make a difference. Even if a very little one - you've left a mark on this earth Linus even if it's one kid getting a bit of joy out of a computer to take away the pain of his shitty circumstance in the great poker game of life then it is worth it. You've made a difference.
I know we've never met in person but I respect what you got to say and even when I don't always agree with you I always want to hear what you think or what you believe because your thoughts have substance and value and come from a genuine place of honesty and good moral value and I appreciate that. And the awesome thing is we get to have a laugh often at your expense because of it

I feel like we'd be good friends and be able to have some good debates over tea or something.

At the end of the day though thank you Linus for building the "little tech review company that could..." for hiring great staff who have a vision and mind of their own. Thank you for the content and i can't wait to see what's next for Channel Super Fun or LTT or the next scrap yard wars like project. Here's to another 10M LTT subscribers whether or not you're the face we see or someone else I am sure we will always hear a good old fashioned too high pitched Linus rant one way or another

    I just wanna say.

    Linus.

You have a legion of people willing to lay flat on highways for you. We're largely a silent majority, but we're just looking for you to point and say, "Go here, we're stopping THIS road".

We're all just waiting to help out. You've put 150% into your work for years, you can't watch a single LTT video without seeing THE WORK. You've helped scores of people, and not just passively, directly a bundle of times.

It's time to cash those chips in. Youtube's in a weird place right now, your company is killing it in a world that seems hopeless. It's January, seasonal depression is in full swing, but this is a great point to look at what you're doing and go, "Fuck, I can take the easy road, there's people who'll back me up".

You have a small empire of followers. You have a deeper sense of meaning and care in what you're doing, and the products you see day in and day out are messing with you. The business models you see are wearing you down and you have bigger hopes than that. You have dreams.

You pour yourself into your work and make connections there because your work is THE dream, it's a fantasy - a group of people telling the truth about products that will save them time. Some people build bridges, some people go to space, but it's all to respect other people's time. It all adds up. It might seem like your contributions are small, but they aren't, because you reach so... many... people. Way more than any single bridge anywhere.

There's a lot of avenues, some of which seem grimy - but you've put in the work. You've slaved ENOUGH. You know this business better than freakin' anybody at this point.

Pick a project. Something big but easy. Outsource a lot of it - there's a legion of people who are willing to help you.

Youtube getting you down? Make a new youtube. Sounds crazy, but you know more about server tech than anybody, and youtube's been drowning in crazy lately.
Kickstarter? I've got LTT fans in my computer, which I built based on your recommendations. I've built an entire camera rig based on your work. If you say it's a good PC part, I'm buying it. Hell if you just built 1 computer at $1000 and kept it constantly updated, I'd never choose my own parts again. I'll just freakin' buy it.
Wanna be doing more for the people? That tree-firing cannon, while amusing, that's on the road. You know how to run a project, you build a non-profit company you can change the freakin' world, and we'll back you.

A really easy one - write a book. I know, it sounds monumental.

Hire a ghost-writer, and dictate it. Just... rant away about tech, about your experiences, about how you analyze a computer system. I'll preorder that book and it's easy to sell a book. It's a grooved path. I've bought several from other YT'ers and they were "meh" but I was just waiting for an opportunity to throw money at them.

Critical Role, I've bought 3 of their books and did their kickstarter. I wasn't even into those books. I just felt it was due for the time I spent watching their stuff.

That's what most people feel - they just want to support your projects. Those items sit on a shelf and we just feel good about throwing money at somebody who's worked that hard.

Wanna cut down your content? Great - just take the presumption that we will follow your advice on 1 product every year. You say this is the best phone, I buy that phone. You've got the credibility. You're the authority on tech these days, so trim down what you're doing to what you want to be doing. I wanna see whatever crazy projects you come up with and I don't mind if they're haphazard or sketchy in nature. I don't think anybody does.

You can start small. Your fans were a GREAT start, something easy and cheap that anyone can buy and benefit from. That's a product. Just your refinements alone are enough, I don't even need to watch the video. I know it's legit when you and your company say it's legit.

You're right to be thinking of retirement, your life.... matters more than this. If you have to take drastic action, take it.

But take the gravy train, pick an easy project and give us opportunities to throw money at you directly, because we will. We see the work every day. Just let all that work you've done studying these things and start pumping out something that'll help YOU.

Anyway, you do you Linus, we're always here listenin'. There's always people who want to hear what you're up to and what we can do to be slaying it as hard as you are every day.

Thank you for your time and contributions to the tech community.

no disrespect intended I'm not sure I've ever heard LUKE or LINUS claim that floatplane is in beta ... its still more of an alpha release. Keep in mind this is a start up that just recently grew from 1 person, to 3 people, last year and I think they're about to be up to 5 people in the very near future. Many people have tried to make Youtube alternatives and have failed just ask Vessel. Just ask the dude whose name eludes me who claimed to have one ready to launch and then bailed very recently. Floatplane is a slow burn but I think if people hang in there it will be a big pay off for those people who want to have more of a tighter interaction with their favourite creators and support them as opposed to google. I think luke has the right approach and he is pointing the float plane in the right directions. Its just going to take his new staff time to pull together some of the back end stuff to support the important thing getting more creators who can upload. Then UI changes and upgrades to UI will come in due time.

Found this support page with minimal effort, and it explains things pretty clearly, Content ID claims are automatic. https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/3244015?hl=en. The only things LMG  can control is opting into the content ID system, uploaded reference content (aka all their videos), and what automatic action to take (track, monetize, or block). Matches up with Linus' video perfectly. Posted link on yesterdays rant video and a twitter post, but doubt he will look at it, or if he does will construe it as him being right somehow. I used some of his build vids to build my first PC in 2013 or so, and it is sad to see him act this way. He always did have the attitude that his way or thoughts on something is always right, but this is another level. Hadn't watched much of his recent content, but always checked if his new uploads might be something I wanted to watch. After he doubled down on today's stream, I just can't stay subscribed and support him any longer. He could really ruin things for himself financially if he actual pursues legal action against LMG or Fullscreen. Legal fees can add up fast, especially if the defendant counter sues for legal expenses.

People here underestimate how overwhelming building a system can be for the average Joe or Jane (or Janice).

I often give advice to a lot of people I know, and it is like I'm advising then on building a rocket to go to Mars. They have no idea of what they need, or want, or even how to get to that information.

And they don't want to know. They just want the easy answer, and they are willing to pay for it.

Aside from the most egregious system I think all of those options are fair. There is no excuse for bad consumer experience and support, but the systems delivered seem fair (with the exception of Origin, probably).
