Oooh I remember one! In my middle school of about 1600 students, we have 2 IT people (luckily they know how to ACTUALLY DO STUFF). When my classmates' Chromebook freezes/breaks, and the teacher is dumb, I always end up fixing it  "How do you restart a Chromebook" "My Chrome OS got deleted" "My Chromebook turned off" "My Chromebook can't connect to Wifi" (their wifi wasn't on) "Where's the power button" also, keep in mind that this is a school that uses Chromebooks in almost every class.

N1NJ4W4RR10R reacted to Jurrunio in CL17-3600Mhz or CL14-3200Mhz
Only reason to buy the 3200MHz CL14 kit is because you're using Ryzen and you're too lazy to set your own timings (as in, even the primary timings which has 5 to 7 values). Ryzen simply can't make 3600MHz profiles work without manual interference on most boards (and those that do will have horrible secondary and tertiary timings that make you lose performance and waste money).

Otherwise you should get the 3600 CL17 kit, it's a higher bin than 3200 CL14 so OC potential is higher. The performance difference with their XMP profiles on Intel is negligible (3600 CL17 has higher bandwidth, 3200 CL14 has lower latency), but Ryzen's design on linking memory frequency with uncore (infinity fabric) frequency makes 3600 CL17 perform better than 3200 CL14 at their rated settings respectively.

Oh, and the best value memory ratings is still 3000MHz CL16 because they are so cheap.

I've posted quite a few stories here, and I make it a habit to post one every time I see this threat bumped to the top. Soooo, here we go!

This was my freshman year, and I had a potato ass laptop. It was an Acer Aspire 4710, and I had to run Lubuntu because I wasn't very Linux savvy at the time, needed a light weight OS, and it only had XPDMA drivers ever made for its hardware (My schools network was made in such an bass akwards way that only Win 8, Win 8.1, and Mac's could properly log on. As well as Linux machines).

I pull up TOP in the terminal because it was lagging out hard and I wanted to see what was up. The amount of stares...

I was a renowned hacker from that day on, despite my best efforts to shut them up because I knew literally 0 coding other than basic Linux commands. Thankfully I was never asked to "hack" anything, only help bypass the schools content filter and cheat on tests.

That same laptop also nearly caught on fire in my backpack after it turned itself on and cooked itself.

My brother asked me why his intel celeron can't play plants vs zombies and farm amulator, like a ke my new ryzen 2600 pc
I had to build a 2400g pc for him.

went over to a mates place to help him with some basic computer maintenance, cable management and rebuilding (see below)

my girlfriend came along to hang with my mates girl. She looked at what we were doing and asked "is that what over clocking is?" we both just looked at her for a few seconds before face palming and the showing her later what overclocking is lol

~~guy that helped my mate build it was a knob as far a i can tell.

-plugged fans direct to PSU via molex
-had every cable of a semi modular psu plugged in and just stuffed in the case
-had a dual channel kit running in single channel.
-Said only the 4 corner mobo screws needed screwed in
-Told buddy that the prongs on the io shield needed to fold into the port to keep it steady
-Only 3 PSU screws were in
-had the front usb pluged into both 2.0 and 3.0 headers causing the 3.0 not to work

Idk who this guy is but needs to stay away from "helping" others build thier first PC~~

NOTE: Apologies for ancient quotes, came to post somthing and found this in the editor, a quick search seems to indicate i never posted it, guessing it was from back when i had a crash around christmas.

To be fair i only recently discovered about this and i consider myself quite tech literate. Rule 1 of tech support. There will be dumby simple shit you don't know.

P4 era Celeron 1.7Ghz was the oldest i owned, and early pentium 3 was the oldest in the household.

I think we've all made a similar "fail basic look for silly stuff" test before.

Keep meaning to look into more of her stuff, only thing i have ATM is a ripped from youtube copy of her Dragon Age Inquisition cover. Would happily pay for a clean copy with no sound effects from the dragon or a crowd in the background but can;t seem to find it anywhere. And yes i know i'm probably busy committing a perfect example of the story type of this thread.

I've got a cousin i recently built a computer for, and he was just as clueless, but at least he knew he was clueless and asked me to spec out and put together for him, (did the assembly with him there. He had some fun reactions to things).

My stepdad is kinda the reverse, he has a lot of trouble understanding when somthing is stored internet side. Like his e-mail. He tends to think everything is a program running on his hardware. That said even if he dosen;t remember what you told him, if you go "it'll be fine [insert more talk here]" he accepts the expert opinion, he's also ok when he throws me a curveball i can;t figure the answer out to, (a lot of it is ipad stuff and i'm not super great with those).

Also a story about me that will probably both amuse and infuriate everyone. When i first started using a PC i had no idea what Ctrl on the key stood for so i took to calling it Central. I did that for so long before i discovered he real name that i can't stop. I still say things liek "press Central alt delete to bring up task manager". Drives every other techie i'v ever met utterly nuts.

Lol I've probably already said this on here before, but I remember back when I upgraded to 8gb of RAM back in 2013 and was all happy about it. It came up in a conversation I was having with my Mac loving cousin, and he chimes in all smug like "my iMac has 1TB"... His HDD was 1TB. 5400rpm at that, iirc. facedesk

A few weeks ago I was partnered with someone in lab (community collage), he was complaining his laptop was slow, at this point I casually said "well... do you have anything running in the background?". This is where the fun starts, the pore guy minimizes everything, stares at his desktop for a good 2 minutes, then with confidence tells me "no, nothing in the background". I started to say "task manager" but decided to keep my mouth shut. It took everything I had to keep a straight face that day.

N1NJ4W4RR10R got a reaction from XR6 in What's your opinions about APPLE as of now?
What do you think about apple? They're overpriced for what they do.

How would you like them to change? Either lower the price, or justify it by providing objectively better devices. The top tier iphone doesn't deserve to be $100 more then the top tier galaxy when the galaxy provides a boat load of features, while the iphone takes away basic features (hello there headphone jack)

Anything you would like to say about apple vs cheaper phones? Don't buy cheaper, buy value... unless you've got the money, then buy what you want.

What do you think apple has got a hang of (What are they best at?) Manipulating people into thinking anti consumer things they do are good. Headphone jack's a great example.

N1NJ4W4RR10R reacted to Wh0_Am_1 in CAD computer assembly WHICH GPU?
Aim for a Radeon 7, 2080 ti, 1080ti, or a VEGA Frontier, as you want a ton of VRAM in CAD, and a rather fast GPU. Also I heavily recommend a 9900k, 2700x, 9700k, 2600x, or a 1700x, for your CPU, as with CAD you want the overall performance of the processor over the per core performance of the processor (and 8 cores are VERY helpful), as CAD programs tend to be highly optimized for multi-threaded performance.

go to the website of these vareous pieces of software, look at their recommended specs, and pick the card that covers these best, and suits the budget best. you're in a "corporate" environment => you look at the requirements to decide what you buy.

Age is a factor but you won't really see discrimination til you reach your 50s. It's pretty easy to get your foot in the door but I have to warn you that entry level roles are high turnover and low compensation. When I worked in helpdesk I was only making $14/hr with no PTO. I topped out at $19/hr and I know my team lead was only making $23. Didn't make it to actual salary/decent healthcare/vacation days until I left client services and got into a proper systems administration role.

currently the best and nearly the only PROFITABLE algo's to mine require GPU's with 4GB or MORE of VRAM, CPU mining isn't profitable, you are talking pennies a day with the hardware you have listed, BEFORE power costs. and don't think about buying hardware to mine, the ROI is YEARS at best, you are better off just buying some crypto to hold for the next bull run.
