Juanmacaam reacted to tikker in Is a 4-core 16GB RAM too overkill for a fileserver?
Usually you ask these kind of questions before you buy something. My fileserver runs on a 4690k and 16 GB RAM as well, so I'm not really one to talk...

I mean... you don't save much by buying less than that. Arguing against it cost more in other peoples time than was spent on that.

Yea, hdds will go from fine to bd very quickly.
DD them separately, you can do it all at once if you want.

Juanmacaam reacted to Kilrah in Having trouble with mdadm RAID 0
Wow.
The 3rd one is definitely gone. The other 2 aren't in great shape either.
You need -f to force a check.
But this checks the filesystem, not the underlying hardware. See post above for good recommendations.

You have 2 drives with current pending sectors, those are bad.
Id really try to replace those if possible, its only gonna get worse.
But if you can, do a full zero wipe with dd first, that can often fix those sectors as the drive will reallocate them its self.

Juanmacaam reacted to Pickles von Brine in Apple threatens to kill Unreal Engine on iOS, Fornite may never return
Source
well, that heated up quickly. I wonder how far Epic is willing to go? If they go as far as forcing apple to remove them off the Apple Store, then ALL unreal engine stuff would have to be removed... Shit. That would be really bad. However, this seems to be a tit for tat.
If unreal is removed from the Apple Store then does that give Epic more ammo?

Juanmacaam reacted to svmlegacy in 16GB dual-channel or 24GB single Channel
If you run all three sticks, and it posts up, it'll actually use the first 16 GB in dual channel, and the remaining 8 GB as single channel, so you can actually have the best of both worlds.

Juanmacaam got a reaction from svmlegacy in Is AMD Ryzen 3600 compatible with AsRock B450 Pro4?
It depends on the specific mobo you get, you might buy one that isn't out of the box compatible while the one that was next to it on the shelf is. You can't be sure, you can only be if there's a sticker (i think) on the box or something like that.
AMD provides a "loan" for a kit to update your BIOS via mail, but you decide if it's worth the trouble.

I asked the store I was buying from to upgrade it for me, nontheless, what @svmlegacy says it's the correct answer.

Snap and Flatpak are package managers, like apt on Ubuntu. I think (might be wrong) the snap is simpler to install and manage.

Juanmacaam reacted to foldingNoob in How Would I Change what Jack My Internet Goes To?
I used to do electrical labouring work in Auckland, running cables and AV/telco work. Almost all houses in that city have what you have in that picture, more cable and wires than what is actually being used and it looks really messy. My recommendation is identify and tape/label the cable with internet. Then take a pair of wires at the place you want internet and short them, note the colour. test with a multimeter back at where your internet is then connect there. I hope that makes sense.

Juanmacaam reacted to desertcomputer in Thoughts on Asus Prime B450M-A?
You could get larger capacity SSD instead. You won't see much a difference in boot times maybe a few seconds faster but do you really need a couple seconds faster? Hmm tight budget shouldn't even look at NVME ssd for the price you could have gotten double the capacity ... If just gaming/daily work you don't need NVME ssd, SSD is fast enough for those tasks ....

Juanmacaam reacted to F.E.A.R. in Which graphics card should I buy; RX 5500XT or RX 580?
The RX 580 is still a very good card, but 5500XT will have more support in the future (the thing is you'll have to go for he 8GB VRAM version). But it's more expensive than the RX 580. I advise you to get the GTX 1650S over RX 580.
No it's not. The best RX 580 models are the Sapphire Pulse and Sapphire Nitro+.

Juanmacaam reacted to aDoomGuy in What custom ROM do you use?
I used it back in the day on my Galaxy S2. It was great. IMO it should have been installed on all devices by default.
Think it's dead now though.. All good things must come to an end?

No, I don't think you are either. Not enough hair.
Yes, yes they are.
Well, that setup isn't that illogical, if you wanted a negative pressure setup for some reason, this is how you'll do it. Though, you're probably better off putting those fans intake at the front for positive pressure. Less potential dust ingress.

Nothing. 60 degrees Celsius is perfectly safe.
