  1. Hi all, I have an issue wherein my connection is capping at 100 mbps when it used to easily reach the 1Gbps I pay for from my IPS. The connection dropped below 100mbps abruptly without me tinkering with cables/settings and I can't seem to get it back to its max anymore. Speed tests on my pc's connection reach 90mbps through a cable, but if I connect to my modem's wifi (I don't have other pcs to perform a cabled speedtest from the modem) I get over 120mbps download speed even if I'm in another room. I have a D-Link DIR 842 that connects through a 20m CAT5 cable to my modem (provided by my IPS and built to reach 1Gbps speeds). I've tried changing the cable that connects to my pc from the router and have ended up using the cable provided by D-Link as it is the one that used to give me great speeds. One idea was to try and connect to the router's settings by using D-Link's addresses (either 192.168.0.1 or http://dlinkrouter.local./) but it won't connect to any thing and I just get an error in connecting message. Now I think that the only solution would to be in getting a newer generation cable (maybe CAT6 or 7, prices don't vary too much between them). Do you think that I should jump the gun and just change the cable or would it be better to try a factory reset on my router first? Also, any suggestions that wouldn't require me to purchase a new cable are more than welcome. I haven't been able to find any help on the Internet so far. Thank you! Leaving this for anyone else that might have the same issue: SOLVED - I hard reset the router and it's back to normal.
  2. @syn2112There are some other websites that offer more competitive prices, Amazon is more of a reference point for parts that aren't in stock elsewhere. Would you say 3200Mhz is better than 3000Mhz for RAM? Also, is 16GB preferable to 8GB? Really appreciate this!
  3. @syn2112 You're right, I completely forgot to put in a few disclaimers. Mainly: 1) the SSD is an extra that will go into my previous build that I am giving away. I'm getting the m.2 as a boot drive. 2) the RX480 is what I currently have in my PC and is one of the few parts I am bring over to the new build (together with the SSD and HDD). Thank you for the heads up on the PSU and RAM, I'll start looking into them. I didn't know the B450 could handle >2666Mhz.
  4. Hello! I came here back in 2015 and received great feedback. You guys helped me get started and allowed me to get the basics right to build my first relatively budget PC! I'm back now looking to upgrade as some parts have become, so to say, dated, and I would like to refresh my system. I've got most of the parts down but I'm finding myself a little lost on PSUs (mainly because I have a hard time deciding on which could be the right choice as I don't really undetrstand what to look for). I'm also open to any suggestions regarding the other parts, especially RAM even if I don't think sticks really differ much from each other (apart from the speed).
