Did some tweaking to the OC and RAM. It's a shame I couldn't get my 4.2 GHz OC daily stable

Before and after an OC that wasn't intentional but decided to run with it. Noticed that I hadn't used the XMP profile for the RAM and when I enabled it the CPU went up to 3.6Ghz. May as well go to 4Ghz

    Edit:

Decided to see what my dual Xeon E5649 playground got, safe to say I'm underwhelmed. May have to OC this too!

This is the DUMBEST question I've ever asked on here, but can any of you reccommend LOUD fans to me, that somewhat function correctly.
They do need to be 120/140mm fans, but there's just something about having a loud PC that screams power to me.
(of course they will need to be quiet if I choose to do so while providing adequate thermals)

actually i did lose all my time settings.  I was thinking it might be time for a battery to, but hell its only 2 years old.  ill stick on in it regardless.  (it really is about time for them to change to lithium)

I was also confused about why i didnt lose the profiles. they must be written into non volatile memory somewhere.

Virtual machines, multiple background apps / services, bragging rights.

To touch on the virtual machine side of things, you can set CPU affinity for a certain machine to only use specific cores. For example, 3 virtual machines on an 8 core CPU, virtual machine 1 can use 0 - 1, virtual machine 2 can use 2 - 5 and virtual machine 3 can use core 6, and leave core 7 for the host/system.

    Hey all,
I finished my build. I went with the corsair air240. I live in an apartment with my girlfriend and she has her own crafting area, which didnt leave me much room for a computer so I decided to go with a small form factor case and mother board. Ek waterblocks abd fittngs, thermaltake tubing, black nemesis radiators, corsair ml120 fans, delidded liquid metal  i77700k, 1080 ti, corsair vengance lpx 3000mhz 8x2 gb ram. I am ALWAYS looking for ideas to upgrade this build. I have an abundance of leftover acrylic, an unused dremel, and an unsatisfiable need to continue to upgrade this build to make it look amazing. I will be doing a motherboard tray with white acrylic that will sit behind the motherboard and will extend the entire back side of the case, to give it a clean white box look. Again  just looking for ideas to mod it even more. Please any ideas are welcome. Thanks so much!

Are you just changing DNS and running speed test?  That's not the appropriate way to test DNS.

You can run this benchmark to see what endpoints resolve the fastest for you.

    https://www.grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm

For DNS queries you're purely looking for the lowest latency for responses.  After the name resolves there isn't any DNS component that will dictate your speed test for general bandwidth usage or transfers.

Just saying it might not work with hyper-v in 2012 and newer. Last time I tried it on that hardware it was missing features and won't work. Proxmox and esxi and xen should work fine. ALso these are power hogs if you plan to run it very often.
