The GTX 1050 Ti is garbage, you should look for a RX 570 if you're on a tight budget.

lawliot reacted to goshot in 8GB vs 16GB RAM?
Regarding RAM usage, iirc Windows changes the RAM usage of programs depending on how much RAM you have. I mean, Windows and Chrome will take a different amount of RAM on both 8GB and 16GB configurations. So should some games, but newer games indeed work better with more tahn 8GBs but then again im not that big of a gamer.

First off I’m assuming you are going for gaming.
for intel CPUs look at core count and hyper threading. A new i5 with 6 cores will perform around as well as an i7 with 4 cores 8threads as long as it is 6th gen intel or newer. For the new intel high end CPU’s it goes 8700k -> 9700k -> 9900k for AMD CPU’s 2xxx and 3xxx series they perform about on par with their intel counter parts (r5 = i5), but perform worse at higher frame rate (120fps+) but perform better at multi cpu games (online games with lots of people playing at the same time) the ryzen 3xxx series is close enough to intel for it not to matter in the high FPS department.  For gpus it’s easier to break it down by categories: 1080p 60fps: AMD Rx 570/580 or gtx 1660  1080p high refresh rate: rx590/ 5700 or gtx 1660/1660ti 1440p 60fps AMD Vega gpus or 5700 or gtx 1070/1070ti or 2060/2060 super 1440p high refresh rate: AMD 5700 xt or gtx 2070/ 2070 super 4k 60: gtx 2070 super~/ 2080 / 2080 super  4K high refresh rate: 2080 super/ 2080 ti essentially you just have to look at benchmark videos. Benchmarks at 1080p will stress cpu showing cpu bottlenecks, and benchmarks at 4K stress the GPU showing GPU bottlenecks.

Vega 8 on the 3200G is on par with the GDDR5 version of the 1030, so there's no point in using a 610 with it. Also 610 just bad for anything other than browsing the internet.

That's a wrong reading. If 4 volts are sent to the CPU, it will die immediately and not boot again.

Also, that core 0 disabling thing is mute nonsense. Please don't so stupid things that someone else on the internet made up.

This is the issue. Remove the oc, enable PBO and XFR. Let it auto tune voltage. On Ryzen PBO is better than manual locked multiplier in most cases. Also don't disable core 0, why the hell did you think that would help anythiglng?

lawliot reacted to KeppyKep in Two unlabelled sponsored showcases in a row
Linus and LMG seem really committed to being clear about sponsors and taking great care in their video titles.
The various livestreams and discussions on the WAN show about this make their position clear.
Which is why I'm highly disappointed that the two most recent videos ("How we make a video in one day" and "How did they fit a gaming PC in this") were labelled as regular videos. Both of them are the very definition of sponsor showcases. Linus has said many times that in regular videos the sponsor has nothing to do with the video topic, and if it does, then it's a showcase.
I'm hoping this was just a once-off oversight (even though it's happened twice in a row).

Plus sponsor showcases are supposed to be 'extra' content. I'm curious to see how many videos we get this week. Will we get the regular six in addition to these two showcases? Somehow I doubt it.

lawliot reacted to That Franc in How to disable HPET permanently on an Asus B450 board?
If you at least scrolled through the results of this search, and maybe actually read my post, you would have discovered that the solution I mentioned is the same one that is in every result that shows up upon that search.
Once again, disabling HPET isn't the issue. The issue is disabling it permanently. Something keeps enabling it back, and I have no idea how to prevent it (neither does Google, otherwise I wouldn't be looking for help).

With that small amount of information about your problem, it'll be hard for people to help you... you might want to explain more thoroughly, including what hardware you have.

So I had an hour or two to spare and the idea has been floating around my head for about a week. I wanted to do an update to the LTT Intro video that included the new logo.

It doesn't really follow the new brand look as a whole and I am assuming the LTT will have a unique animation eventually. But for now I thought I would incorporate the new logo (which I am a big fan of) into the current intro video.

I took a screenshot of the new logo, copied it in Illustrator, then animated it in After Effects.

Here is the finished animation with music
