Everybody expected it when Nvidia announced the GeForce RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti at Gamescom. But Nvidia still pulled off a surprise, revealing the GeForce RTX 2070 at the same time—albeit without any concrete launch details whatsoever. Now, mere days before the slightly delayed RTX 2080 Ti hits the streets, Nvidia has announced release date information for the GeForce RTX 2070.   The GeForce RTX 2070 will launch on October 17, Nvidia’s GeForce account tweeted today. The Founders Edition model will cost $599 on GeForce.com, with prices from third-party partners like EVGA, Asus, and Gigabyte starting at $499—at least in theory. In reality, we’ve seen custom cards treat the Nvidia Founders Edition cost as the true price baseline when new GPUs launch.

The timing of the launch is interesting. GeForce RTX 2080 reviews proved divisive: Benchmarks showed it performing neck-and-neck with the GTX 1080 Ti in traditional games. Worse, the cutting-edge technologies that Nvidia’s radical Turing GPU was built for—real-time ray tracing, Deep Learning Super Sampling, and more—aren’t available in traditional games yet (although several games have pledged RTX support). Nvidia says the first ray traced games will appear about a month after the GeForce RTX 2080’s September 20 launch, when the underlying DirectX Raytracing API comes to Windows in the October 2018 update.
But will ray tracing be ready for the GeForce RTX 2070’s launch? That’s the big question. October 17 is about a month after the RTX 2080’s launch. Microsoft hasn’t announced a firm release date for October 2018 Update.
Spitballing off how the GeForce RTX 2080 and 2080 Ti compare to their predecessors, the GeForce RTX 2070 might wind up matching the performance of the GTX 1080 in traditional games. If that’s the case, the situation would match the RTX 2080 versus GTX 1080 Ti dilemma. You’ll be paying the same amount—or likely more—for the same level of traditional game performance, 2.5 long years after the GTX 1080’s debut. If ray tracing and DLSS aren’t available by the time the GeForce RTX 2070 launches, buyers will once again be asked to make a leap of faith in paying that premium for Turing’s future-facing features.
Fingers crossed ray tracing ships before October 17. In the meantime, here’s a refresher on the GeForce RTX 2070’s core specs:
CUDA cores: 2,304 Clock speed: 1,410MHz base, 1,620MHz boost, 1,710MHz OC Founders Edition Memory capacity: 8GB GDDR6  Memory path: 256 bits  Memory bandwidth: 448GBps  Ports: VirtualLink/USB-C, DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0b  Power: One 8-pin, 175W stock, 185W OC Founders Edition NVLink/SLI: No Release date: October 17, 2018 Price: $499 stock, $599 Founders Edition You can sign up to be notified when the GeForce RTX 2070 Founders Edition will be available to preorder on the GeForce website. Asus already revealed ROG Strix, Dual Fan, and blower-style RTX 2070 graphics cards, so expect to see custom models around the same date. "

I've been waiting for this, the mid range card, but if NVidia continues their price increases, we might eventually have to settle for a 3060 (whenever the heck that comes out)

BensNo1Fan reacted to The_Tron in 2nd Gen Ryzen Vaulted AMD Over Intel In CPU Sales Again
Finally Amd has more sales than Intel. It's good that our blue teams getting competition.

    I quote:

eTailer Claims 2nd Gen Ryzen Vaulted AMD over Intel in CPU sales again
AMD is on a roll with its Zen architecture, and especially its second generation Ryzen processor family for the mainstream market. Buyers now have competitive solutions from both AMD and Intel at practically every price point. That hasn't always been the case before Ryzen—AMD wasn't really competing at the higher end of the performance spectrum—but it is now, and it's paying off. Evidence of this can be found at a German retailer's breakdown of CPU sales.   Every so often, Mindfactory puts out a bunch of graphs and sales data comparing CPU sales from AMD and Intel processors. Over the course of the year, AMD has been catching up with Intel at that specific retailer, having grabbed 45 percent of CPU sales in June and nudging up to 50 percent in July. Now AMD has overtaken Intel.
Reddit user ingebor plotted out Mindfactory's sales data over the past year, as shown above. You can see that AMD has been closing the gap over the past several months, reaching sales parity with Intel and, finally, nudging slightly ahead.   Of course, we don't want to make a mountain of a mole hill here. What you're looking at above is the sales data from a single retailer, that's the first thing. Secondly, the graphs depicts the number of CPUs sold, not revenue. Nevertheless, it's an interesting snapshot of the difference that AMD's second generation Ryzen processors have made.
If we look at sales revenue, Intel still maintains a lead over AMD. Intel's chips contribute 56 of Mindfactory's CPU sales revenue, versus 44 percent for AMD. The two chipmakers actually swapped places from a year ago, when AMD generated more CPU revenue for the retailer than Intel did. That's due in part to the average selling price (ASP) being higher for certain Intel processors.
No matter how you slice it, though, AMD's second generation Ryzen lineup (shown as Pinnacle Ridge in the above chart) is a success. Again, this is but a single retailer in Germany. However, that is not the only place where AMD's second generation CPUs are selling well.   We looked up the best selling CPUs on Amazon's US website, and the Ryzen 5 2600 holds the No. 2 spot. Other notable entries include AMD's Ryzen 7 2700X (No. 4), Ryzen 5 1600 (No. 6, first-gen part), Ryzen 3 2200G (No. 8), and Ryzen 5 2600X (No. 11).   Intel's Core i7-8700K is the No. 1 selling CPU on Amazon, and obviously Intel is well represented in the top 10 (and beyond). However, the it's certainly not lopsided. The top 10 best selling CPUs on Amazon are equally split between AMD and Intel.

Tech support scams are a problem on the internet, and Google is trying to stop people from getting tangled in them through their ads.
It's decided to restrict ads by third-party technical support providers, as well as making these businesses verify themselves.

"As the fraudulent activity takes place off our platform, it’s increasingly difficult to separate the bad actors from the legitimate providers," reads a postby Google's director of global product policy, David Graff, on Friday.
"That's why in the coming months, we will roll out a verification program to ensure that only legitimate providers of third-party tech support can use our platform to reach consumers."
The announcement comes following a Wall Street Journal investigation on these scams. It included a particularly bad ad purporting to be from Apple, which appeared when one searched for the terms "apple tech support" on Google.
In this case, the ad showed a URL for Apple's official website, but also displayed and linked to a phone number belonging to a tech support scammer."

TESLA announcement suggests that it will unveil a brand-new car next week at Grand Basel next week. Carmaker could launch Model Y, Pickup truck or next-generation Roadster.

Tesla could be unveiling a brand-new car next week at the Grand Basel car show.
The carmaker is planning on showcasing a ‘surprise’ on September 5th, which could be a never before seen vehicle.
Currently, the carmaker has stated that it is working on the next-generation Roadster and is also planning on launching the Model Y and Pickup truck, meaning any of these vehicles could be revealed.
However, the most likely car to launch is the Roadster, giving the nature of the Basel show.

    I Quote:

"Card top (with brand logo and UPC barcode data) face up, bottom face down, as you insert it into the tray/laptop placed upside down on the table with the bottom cover removed.  Single notch (for NVMe) or double notch (for SATA) connector end of the card oriented north from you, and screwhole to tighten it down is at the south end of the card.

If the card is NVMe, with the proper card orientation the single notch in the gold connectors will be on the right. Here's an NVMe card installed in my P70.

I can't imagine how even with the P50 and its tray (the P70 does not have a tray, and has a single plastic tongue that fits into the single notch of the NVMe card design) it could be physically possible to incorrectly install the card upside down.  I guess the SATA card's double-notch causes confusion."
