  1. if at all possible in laptops id prefer the best cpu i can get without being outdated and having heat issues, since i have no idea how to do any undervolting or repasting from what ive read around online..unless easily done from a control center from the laptop itself and is safe. Budget is around $2500 (canadian dollars) nope weight and size does not matter to me im just going to keep it on my desk at home. i would prefer a gaming laptop as i do have a regular hp envy right now that im planning to keep just for everyday tasks.
  2. im thinking of buying the same, if you end up purchasing will you update on how it runs and your experience with it after using it for a bit?
  3. tell me about it, canadian prices can be so pricey... hard to find a good deal other than black friday/boxing day here. Ill check it out, thanks.
  4. i would like to be around the $2,500 price point (can be abit more but i plan on waiting until black friday or boxing day for sales on them) but note, i am in canada so i can onl buy from canadian retailers and im looking in canadian dollars. I would like a gtx 1070 or gtx 1080. It needs to have good cooling and not over heat. i would like to see a good enough cpu probably an i-7... not sure which exact ones are the best out there.17 inch screen would be nice but i wouldnt mind a 15 inch if the specs are great. Im planning on just using it for sims 4 & photoshop editing.
  5. yes, i plan on waiting for black friday or boxing day for sales. just dont know which laptop i should look out for.
  6. Im looking into purchasing a gaming laptop, i would only be playing the sims 4 on it and probably using photoshop for editing as well. I have all dlc packs and plan on getting any future pack they release for years to come. I also have about 10+ GB mods/cc (im slightly addicted, can you really blame me?) I would also like to be able to play on ultra settings without any lagging, freezing, crashing, etc. My current laptop can run it fine but over the years it has become a bit slower, graphics arent as sharp and it overheats like crazy when i try to play..like to the point of it shutting down! So i would like a laptop i can use specifically for the game to keep everything neat and seperate from my laptop i am currently using for everyday tasks such as browsing, netflix, youtube, etc. I have been eyeing the hp omen x 17 https://store.hp.com/CanadaStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=2LV57UA&opt=ABA&sel=NTB Everthing looks great to me but i have heard mixed reviews on its cooling ability.. some are saying the cpu temps get crazy hot like 90+ degrees which worries me...i need a laptop that will not heat up like that but who knows? those people who say it reached high temps were probably playing high demand AAA games...not sure if sims would create as much heat. Based on those specs on that laptop would it be able to run the sims 4 how i would like it to? I have heard the sims is more cpu based rather than gpu based and i should be looking for the best cpu and not try to go for the best, most recent gpu out there as it wouldnt make much of a difference, is there any truth to that? Does anyone recommend any other gaming laptop instead of the one i mentioned? Id like to note im open to looking at other brands aside from alienware..just havent heard great things about dell as a company so id like to steer clear from them. Does anone else currently use a gaming laptop and is running the sims 4 perfectly without any over heating issues?? please let me know! Thanks in advance

  8. Hi! i feel like i have exhausted all options to try and fix this issue i am having so i thought maybe someone who is more tech savvy than i am could possibly help me out hereI am playing the sims 4 (whether or not you are familiar with the game or not if you have ANY thoughts or suggestions i would greatly appreciate it)Basically, there are some alpha textures in my game and in those textures are fine white lines which are not supposed to be there, when i zoom in close they appear normal, but as i am slowly zooming further out, the lines become more prominent. Im not too sure what the exact technical terms are in this situation but im guessing it is some sort of alpha texture/transparency issue or LOD issue since it appears normal close up but further away the texture gets all messed up.I am wondering if there is ANYTHING i can do to improve the LOD or improve the look of alpha textures using the setting in the nvidia control panel, nvidia inspector or any other setting on my laptop. I have an HP Envy 17 (bought it back in 2014) and it has the nvidia gt 740m. Any help would be so greatly appreciated! The first photo is what it is always supposed to look like (this is zoomed in) and the second photo is what happens when i zoom out (white lines circled in red)
  9. hmmm, no thunderbolt required? ill try and see if i can find a video on that.. all videos i have seen have been about how to connect one of those huge boxes as an egpu but all require a thunderbolt port
  10. what if lets say i had a new laptop.. nothing special pretty basic that is just ment for browsing the web and maybe school work, no nvidia graphics cards or any special gaming specs but had a thunderbolt port.. would it work then?
  11. After tons of research (since graphics in one of my game just isnt up to par) i think the best solution for my situation is to try out an egpu. now from what i understand, you need a thunderbolt 3 cable. problem is i have a HP Envy 17 laptop and it doesnt have a thunderbolt 3 port... only 4 USB 3.0 ports. Does this mean i cant have a egpu at all now?? Is there some sort of adapter cable that the thunderbolt 3 can plug into and the other end is a usb cable that can then plug into my laptop?? or is there another way to get an egpu to work. my laptop isnt that old i think...only maybe 5-6 years??Any help or info on this would be greatl appreciated as im not so tech savvy as others, thanks!
