  1. Thank you all guys for your answers! I think I may go for the Gigabyte card! @i_build_nanosuits I think you are a bit harsh on this one. 99% of the reviews on this card are completely forgetting about the 3D artists and only consider the gamers. Well, the things are a bit different when you render with this GPUs. I will explain my thought process behind the decision of buying an RTX. The RT cores speed up quite a lot the light transport in the raytracing process, and some of the rendering engines will support this technology in 3-6 months ( that's what I saw, at least). At the moment, there are a few Octane renderer reviews that enabled RT cores, and without any optimization, they managed to score good improvements with the 20xx cards. Also, there are V-Ray developers that recommended me buying this card over the 1080ti. You can find an article about this here: https://www.chaosgroup.com/blog/what-does-the-new-nvidia-rtx-hardware-mean-for-ray-tracing-gpu-rendering-v-ray Also, as I am interested in GPU rendering, why wouldn't I go with a GPU that can stack the memory through NVLink and allow me some room for another card in the future (taking into consideration the importance of VRAM in GPU rendering)? I think that if you want to buy a card and be future-proof, at least for rendering, the price difference is going to be worth it.
  2. Thank you for answering, @Jurrunio ! I will take your opinion into consideration! I am also looking for other people's opinion ^_^!
  3. Hey guys! I have to decide between picking the 2080 FE or the Gaming one from Gigabyte (mainly because of my case size/price and design). At the moment, the price for the FE is £750 , while Gigabyte would cost me £800 +/- 10£. While this difference is not huge, I still consider it and I heard that the Gigabyte one is just a bit better than the FE in terms of cooling. Do you think that buying the NVidia one will be a decision that I will regret? Thank you ^_^ !
  4. Thank you for replies , @STRMfrmXMN and @17030644! @17030644 My budget for the PSU is under 100. The GPU is killing me haha, but I have to upgrade and I will take this instead of the 1080ti for the RT cores which will help me in rendering (gaming is not really my interest)
  5. Thank you @DocSwag ! Then I guess I am gonna go for that one. One more thing, that I forgot to mention ( and this may be a really noobie question but bear with me, my hardware knowledge is quite limited): In the specs of the RTX 2080 it is mentioned that the connectors this GPU uses are 1 x 6 pins PCIe and 1 x 8 pins PCIe. Now, I was looking in the specs of the PSU and it says it has 4x 6+2 PCIe connectors. Would these two be compatible?
  6. Thank you @bindydad123. Do you think the 650W should work fine?
  7. Hey guys! Next week I plan buying the Gigabyte 2080 GPU and I think that my current PSU is not gonna be able to handle it. For this reason I started to look for a better one and at the moment I cannot decide between those two (if they are both bad please recommend me something ) . https://www.scan.co.uk/products/650w-seasonic-focus-plus-gold-full-modular-80plus-gold-sli-crossfire-single-rail-54a-120mm-fan-atx-p https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01AHRQW34/?SubscriptionId=AKIAJCMZ7EUWHXU3XRZQ&tag=xov-uk-21&linkCode=xm2 What would you go for? On the specs of the 2080 it says that the minimum recommanded is 650W , but some people in here said that it is actually more than enough because Nvidia makes these recommendations based on a high-end system, which I don't really have Thank you! 8. If you are a 3D Artist doing a lot of offlien rendering, does it make more sense to buy an RTX2080 than for a gamer?
  9. What about its offline rendering abilities? Do you think these will be significant?
  10. Hey guys! As far as I can see everyone is quite pissed with the performances of 2080 when it comes to gaming ( and yes, I understand ). However, I am not sure about some things: I heard people saying that comparing the latest driver updates of a GPU (1080ti in our case) with the next gen early drivers (2080) is quite unfair, as the performances can go up quite a lot from release to release. Secondly, won't the ray-tracing ability of the card make the price difference understandable? I mean, I know that at this moment we don't have a lot of titles offering that and it seems like just a waste of 100 something £, but what about next months/year? Finally, do you think that 2080 will make sense for 3D Artists that want to use Redshift/Vray and soon Arnold? I read Vlado's blog from Vray that looks quite positive about RTX. What do you guys think? Is it just over-hype and false marketing or what is it?
  11. Thank you for you answer, @digitaldoughnut !
  12. I am gonna wait and be careful with the benchmark and see how things go. I also opened my case and measured and I think It has + 1.5 more cm than it would require for the GPU. Thank you for the answer , @willing !
  13. Dear awesome community: I have decided to upgrade my GPU to (let's say) this 2080 GPU. However, there are a few concerns that I have as I am not as experienced with hardware as I would like to: First of all, as you can see in my rig specs, I have a Sirtec 500w PSU, which is under the minimum 650 required by the RTX. Now, do you think that is worth trying to run that card with the actual PSU or I should upgrade to a 650 one? Secondly, my Zalman Z11 Plus says in the specs that it accepts up to 290mm long GPUs, and the Gigabyte RTX 2080 is 280mm. I think it should be quite ok, but it's almost reaching the limits. Did you guys have any bad experience with such situations? Finally, do you notice any other potential problem this GPU may have in terms of compatibility with the current system? Thank you, and keep up the good work Serban This is my not so awesome old rig: i7 4770 3.4GHz Gigabyte GTX 660 24 GB RAM MSI H87-G41 Sirtec 500W Zalman Z11 Plus
  14. Dear Linus Community, This is my first post here so hello everyone! Recently I got interested in buying a new graphics card for my PC, but my experience with hardware is not that well developed so I guess I would need your opinion! I am a 3D artist and I want to use the GPU for 3D Rendering. I think about buying a new one in the next 1-2 months. The obvious option, for my budget which is around £550 - £600, would be a GTX 1080 (please, correct me if I am wrong). Now, I tried to get some information about when would be a good moment to buy this new GPU and I found out that in the near future would be around 20th of September when the new generation of GPUs will be released. Here is where questions come: - How much do generally old generations of GPUs decrease in price at such events? I understand if you cannot give me a precise approximation, but maybe there are people able to tell based on what happened in the last years? - Now, let's say that I would go for 1080, how do I pick the right vendor (EVGA/Geforce/etc.)? Are the products of those similar in terms of performance or the price difference between them is visible? ( I can see that some vendors sell it for £490 and others for £540 ). - Do you guys think I would need to consider other GPU than 1080? If so, which ones? Would I get better options if I will wait a bit more and maybe increase my budget a bit? I was thinking about RTX, but I think these may be extremely pricey. - Finally, I would like to ask you: Would I need to upgrade any other component if I want my pc to work with this GPU (like my power source)? This is my humble old rig: i7 4770 3.4GHz Gigabyte GTX 660 24 GB RAM MSI H87-G41 Sirtec 500W
