    RX 480 underperforming?

Yes, but it seems after installing some visual c++ redistributables and disabling vsync on Radeon Settings, the low performance is gone. More testing needs to be done, but seems pretty ok so far! I'll try the stable drivers and see whats going on

    RX 480 underperforming?

Hi everyone, i recently had to "upgrade" to an RX 480 4GB, from a GTX 970 that died after a power outage. The thing is, i noticed that the performance is somewhat bad, compared to my old gtx 970 (stock clocks, no OC) on games, like stuttering and low fps (in somes games, if i alt+tab, the fps go back to normal). Temps are on the 66c range for all the GPU components. No Radeon Chill, no power saving features on. Synthetic benchmark scores are what is expected from the RX 480 (getting close to 8400 passmark points). Core clock is at 1276 MHz and Memory clock is at 1800MHz. No thermal throttling or such. Drivers are the latest beta, CPU is a Core i7 2600k @ 4.2GHz, with 2x4 1600mhz ddr3 ram, on Windows 10 LTSC.

    Mounting fans

Thanks! I'll put more attention tomorrow when i install those case fans.

    Mounting fans

Hello everyone, i got a pack of five fans for my case (aerocool cylon) and i was wondering something. I currently have 2 fans mounted in the front, and i noticed when installing them that they have two arrows, one indicating the airflow, and one indicating the rotation direction. Is that something to be aware of when mounting the fans?
  5. Hi everyone! I bought an used Asus p8p67 evo b3 for my brother's pc, with faulty internal (the usb case connectors) and external usb2.0 ports (the 3.0 ones work) for 20 usd. The error i receive is this "The last USB device you connected to this computer has malfunctioned and windows doesn't recognize it" The thing is, every other thing works, overclocks are stable (over 24hs of prime with small ffts), temperatures in the mobo and VRMs are normal, BIOS works as intended, there are no bent pins, and so forth. The seller said to me that he thinks that the "chip that controlls the usb 2.0 ports is faulty, as the 3.0 ports work as intended". He said to me that i could disable those ports and get away with a cheap PCI USB 2.0/3.0 card. I really don't know where the problem can be, but any help would be appreciated.

Upgrade platform or improve current one?

I got this liquid cooler for free, i had a contac silent 12 from Thermaltake, but i couldn't refuse a free WC. I think ill wait a little more and make the jump to ryzen.

Upgrade platform or improve current one?

Good idea, i've heard you set the multiplier up to 42 for the 2600 non-k with a Z or P series motherboard. Is that true?

Upgrade platform or improve current one?

Thanks, i'll save a little more and maybe wait for Zen2 so the prices go down.
  9. Hi everyone! I had my gaming PC from like 2012, it has an Intel Core i7 2600 (non k, wasn't interested in oc back in the day) a Gigabyte H61M-S2V-B3 (my asus p8p67 died after my liquid cooler leaked), 8 GB of DDR3 1600MHz in dual channel RAM, an Nvidia GTX 970,a 600W EVGA Gold PSU, and an 240GB sata 3 SSD in a PCIe SATA 3 card+2TB HDD for games (all working great and brand new) After all this spectre/meltdown patches, i've started to notice my i7 2600 is showing some aging signs, stutter, freezing constantly, usage spikes in one or two threads, even after disabling them. GPU works at 20~25~% while CPU is pegged at 40~50% combined load (high usage on 1 or 2 threads) and such. I mostly play high IPC/CPU reliant games, and i run VMs to study sysadmin (no more than two at the same time). Right now i have two good deals for the money i currently have (student with some savings) a Ryzen 5 1600, Asrock x370 killer SLI, and 12 GB of DDR4 2666MHz RAM in dual channel for 370 USD. Problem is, i don't have all the money now, and the price tends to go up (screw inflation rofl). I tried to bring the price down putting a A320 chipset board, but the price change was negligible, and i lose the ability to OC. B350 and B450 boards have a 2~4 USD price difference (yes, my country is really weird with pricing) and 12 GB is the least i want to buy, as the price difference between 8 and 12 GB makes going for 8 GB not worth at all. On the other hand, i can get a Z68 motherboard, 8 GB of DDR3 and an i7 2600k for 254 USD, i can OC it to 4.3 GHz (i currently have a 120mm AIO), and i can get some extra cash selling my H61+i7 2600 combo. If i were to sell this actual mobo+cpu+ram combo, i could probably buy the ryzen platform (i am not interested in Zen+ or Zen2 atm), but, will it be worth? Will it make a difference in gaming performance? Any help would be appreciated, as im stuck on a dead end. EDIT: Added storage

    PS3 wifi/bluetooth no longer works

Hello everyone, i got this 1st gen ps3 with ylod, i used a reflow station and reflowed the chip with flux (this is because i got a spare RSX in new condition from another ps3 of mine that was used as a media center, but met her demise when she fell to the floor, luckily the chip is working) delidded and re applied new thermal paste and re-glued both chips ihs's. It works flawlessly, except that bluetooth and wifi don't work. I tried to update via usb, and at 99% i got the 8002F1F9 error code, and now my ps3 is stuck on firmware update loop. I can't even now if the ethernet works. Any help/ideas? I replace the antenna and the wifi/bt board, but that didn't do anything.

Windows 10 obnoxiously slow after fresh install

Yes, will try that, the thing is, i tried to monitor usage on boot, but Windows 10 takes so much to load task manager after i put my password that i've gave up
  12. Hello everyone, i recently did a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro 1809 x64, because, after upgrading, i was having very weird problems (MSI afterburner not giving me the option to monitor my cpu temps/speed, really sluggish, really high boot time, etc) I have a Seagate Barracuda 1 TB 7200RPM HDD (bought in October 2018 new), with a 77,5 GB partition with Windows and my programs (50,6 GB free), and a 853 GB partition for my games (629 GB free). I have a WD Blue 1TB 7200 RPM (bought in February 2018 new) which i use to store my movies, VMs and other files. The thing is, after the fresh install, the computer was really fast, like, 1 second to open the file explorer, really snappy to boot, etc. But, when i downloaded the updates, all of that went to hell. The PC is awfully slow again, icons appear blank when booting to desktop until 40 seconds after boot, file explorer is sluggish, the HDD does grinding noises. I know is a HDD, but, my brother's WD Black works faster than mine, and he has really heavy programs (Autocad Suite). I tried: -Disabling Windows Search and Superfetch service (that helped a bit) -Disabling programas on boot, except for Windows Defender, Nvidia control panel and Realtek control panel) -Cleaning junk and defragging with windows defrag utiliy -Checked S.M.A.R.T (no errors) -Partitioned the disk in two during Windows installation -Disabled Spectre and Meltdown (more on that later) -Ran antivirus, antispyware, antimalware, adwcleaner, with no positives -Uninstalled Windows crapware I really don't know what more can i do, buying an SSD is on the to-do list, but it won't be happening right now, as im saving for an entire new pc. My current specs are: OS: Windows 10 Pro 1809 x64 CPU: Intel Core i7 2600 (disabled spectre/meltdown, gained a little boost all-around) Motherboard: Gigabyte GA H61m s2v b3 1.1 RAM: 8 GB DDR3 1333MHz in dual channel (they run at 1600MHz, but, chipset only supports 1333MHz) GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 970 HDD: 1TB Seagate Barracuda 64 MB cache (OS+Games partition)+1TB WD Blue 64 MB cache (no partitions).

    GPU VRM safe temperatures

Hello everyone, i have a gtx 970, a zotac dual fan model. I recently chnaged the stock cooler for an arctic accelero twin turbo II, i saw a 20c degree drop on full load temps. One thing that worries me, is that te cooler fans don't blow aire over the VRMs, because of their placement on the board. This GPU doesn't have a sensor on the VRMs, but i touched the heatsinks that you glue onto them, and they were hot, not to the point that i had to remove the finger instinctively, but hot. I can't measure the exact temperature, but my main concern is, should i worry? We are in summer here, so ambient temps are like 30 to 42 degrees celsius.
