Fast_N_Curious got a reaction from cipher_hawk in Show off Your Setup! (Rev.2)
My main rig is in the main house (z840, 2x 2596v3 processors) This is the garage / half finished section of the house. It's heated and I'm out here most of the time. If I set up my 1000W sound system in the main house my neighbors would complain because of the "thud". Hence, this is the only place I can play it load and work on cars / automotive stuff at the same time. I have a wood burning stove behind me in case it gets cold. This was my grandfathers desk for his work for the strategic air command and has sentimental value. Out here is function before form, that's for sure.

Klipsch Surrounds from a 5.1 kit
Klipsch Reference 12" Subwoofer
5.1 dolby surround for general audio stuff, movies, TV shows, 5 channel stereo mode for music. Need to replace the surrounds at some point, but it's not a super high priority, they're decent enough for now.

2x Polk R200
2x ELAC OW 4.2
2x Emotiva B1+
SVS PB1000 + SVS PB12-NSD
4x Klipsch Quintet Satellite speakers
3x tactile transducers
Marantz SR6015 AVR
I have 5 2" thick sound panels scattered throughout the room plus a bunch of "randomly" shaped foam wall panels for higher frequency stuff.
I have an unused Emotiva C1+. It's not bad but the 2x Polk R200 do a better job than using a center channel.
Music will either be played in stereo or using atmos upmixing.
Things with "echo" sound effects tend to be played in stereo (e.g. Flyday Chinatown). Things which are "spacious" tend to be played using atmos upmixing (e.g. Bubbles by Yosi Horikawa).
Next upgrade will likely either be a pair of Polk R100 speakers. In the short term they'd replace the Emotivas. In the longer term they'd serve as wides for the front sound stage. If I got REALLY ambitious and had more money than sense I'd likely get a pair of R700s plus some more subwoofers (so 4x SB1000 or PB1000 [SO is currently borrowing one] in total, in the corners)

So effectively a dual loop system with the liquid to liquid heat exchanger in the middle.
Advantages of Liquid to liquid plate heat exchanger:
-MUCH more surface area than a radiator. Many orders of magnitude more, especially with a 60 plate unit.
-liquid to liquid heat exchange is much more efficient than liquid to air. Hence, I have a much higher delta T than most standard loops.
-Very low restriction, so it wont impede loop flow rate.
-Durable. I've had this heat exchanger frozen solid (on the outside) and it's strong enough to handle that no problem.
PIC of heat exchanger and system.

Thanks. I forgot to tune the uncore ratio for this run It should have been able to hit at least 5.2-5.3GHz with the temps that night.

The bucket contains supercooled methanol (40%) @ -10*F and a 60 plate liquid to liquid heat exchanger. .. see pic below
Other days I will bring the entire PC outside and use wireless mouse and keyboard to OC from the house.

9600K at 5.6GHz? Not too shabby 🙂
Just noticed the memory as well.
Nice tease, now give the details. Cooling, motherboard, etc etc etc.

Fast_N_Curious reacted to YoungBlade in True "merits" of high SP rating?
I was just using "ASIC quality" as another example of a number that has dubious value - it's not even used anymore, because people were assigning it more value than it was worth, so it stopped being reported. I don't think that SP really means much. Maybe it has some limited value, but it can't replace actually testing overclocks/undervolts directly.

Not bad for PBO..

All of these silicon scores, like SP or the old "ASIC quality" reported by GPU-Z for some GPUs, are at best loose guidelines and at worse, next to useless. The only way to actually know the quality of silicon is to test it to death until you've attacked it from every angle to see where its strengths and weaknesses are.
For example, I have an old RX 580 4GB that OCs like garbage - RAM can't even get to 2000 MHz and the core can't hit 1400 MHz with stock voltages. Definitely below average. However, it actually undervolts at -60mv while maintaining the factory OC of 1386 MHz, which isn't that bad given that is technically an OC+UV. There's no way that one number is going to tell you that that sort of configuration of voltage and frequency is possible. You've just got to do trial and error until you find something that works well for you.

Fast_N_Curious got a reaction from tkitch in Modern computer cases are going to hell
I knew it was bad when RGB hit the market. then the 50lb glass paneling showed up. THEN andre the giant cases started appearing... ones that you need a forklift to move for you... But when they start resembling a rug doctor that's been decked out by what appears to be a 4 year old you have to wonder... have modern computer cases finally damned themselves to computer hell with absolutely no chance for redemption?
this is just for laughs guys, please don't take me too seriously.
