  1. Hey, I'm looking to upgrade my CPU on my machine. I'm having a bit of a GPU bottleneck issue, and I'm hoping to find something that has decent price-to-performance numbers, but also isn't a turbo bottleneck for my GPU. I'm running an LGA1151 H370 board. I currently have a i5-7600K and a 1070. What would be a decent CPU that won't bottleneck my GPU?
  2. So ik that no one cares at this point, but I bought a used (unifi) 10 gig switch from work for 150 bucks (what a deal) and my 10 gig now works perfectly fine between 2 workstations and 2 servers!
  3. The problem is, they don't work at all in windows, no matter what. I think its something to do with my configuration on the windows side
  4. They have the exact same nic, I don't think it matters. I'll give that a go
  5. When I installed Ubuntu, I mapped the same ips, still doesn't work. Pings only work one way (server Ubuntu to workstation Ubuntu, but cant ping server from workstation)
  6. I'm using freenas 11.3. I tried mapping a share to a network drive, it takes a while to connect, then once it connects, it transfers at 1gig speed
  7. It breaks with ubuntu on my workstation and freenas on my server. The ips are: Server - 192.168.100.1 Workstation - 192.168.100.2 subnet - 255.255.255.0
  8. My bad, I'm not too familiar with iperf. I have ubuntu installed in my workstation and I get the same problem, I can ping it from my server, but not from my workstation
  9. I disabled the firewall on both sides, no result with the pings or connection speed
  10. iperf3 seems to not support multithreading, I'm rebooting back to freenas now to try to disable all firewalls and try again
  11. CPU usage on both machines never exceeded 30 percent. Is it likely that this is a firewall problem on the windows side? I don't understand about the connection though. It seems like its really slow to initially map the drive, but the transfer speeds don't exceed 1 gig
  12. I installed ubuntu and iperf on my server and I was unable to use my workstation as a server but when I connected to my server as a client from my workstation, I received these result: Note: 192.168.100.1 is my server and 192.168.100.2 is my workstation
  13. They're both on the /24 subnet and I mapped using the IP
  14. Just to start, I'm kind of a noob with networking and stuff, so don't mind if my terminology is wrong or if I'm doing something stupid. My goal is to have a freenas server that can transfer to the rest of my network at 1gig and just to my workstation at 10 gig. I recently got 2 Asus XG-C100C 10gig nics and I set one up in my workstation (windows) and one in my freenas box. I connected them directly together (peer to peer network). I installed the drivers for both and assigned static ips on both (192.168.100.X). I can ping my workstation from the freenas box, but I can't ping freenas from my workstation. I ignored that and tried to map the network drive. It takes a few minutes, but it connects after a while. However, it reads and writes at 1 gig. I have my mtu set to 9014 on both machines, but still no luck. I tried running angry ip scanner on my windows machine, but it won't discover the freenas box. However, when I ping the workstation from freenas, task manager registers network activity, so there is some kind of connection. Am I doing something wrong? Any advice? Note: I've had my freenas box for a while now and I've had no problem using it with my regular network. Note2: Both machines confirm the link speed is 10 gig
  15. Just recently, I started transferring my work over to a home server. I started buying some used servers and now, I need somewhere to put them. I currently have a 1U processing machine and a 2U storage server. I have the 2 servers on a little stool under my desk. I don't have space for a big rack and don't need anything more then 6-12Us. I'd prefer to buy something used or cheap because I am running lightweight stuff. I don't rely on this stuff for business, I just have them to improve the quality of my projects. Does anyone have any suggestions for racks that I can put on the floor? Thanks!
