  1. Hi I have just put together a new system of criminally discounted parts that is going to be a Nas for my folks. CPU is ryzen 1600 mobo x370 Am4, 2 sticks of 8gb 2666 MHz a 450 watt psu. Everything is hooked up and all LEDs and fans are running. Put no post, I checked all the HW on a different motherboard and again no post, then I tried a new 1600 cpu still no post, tried new ram no post. I then tried bot CPUs in my parents desktop and it works like a charm, only difference between the new system and the desktop is a graphics card. Any help would be appreciated at this point as I have tried all components in the desktop and they are working only solution I can think of is that both brand new motherboards are DOA as all the components work on the B series AM4 board in my parents desktop.
  2. Tried unplugging and replugging, initially tried to move the card from slot 3 to 5 but it will not fit the bottom slot as the heatsink on the card is interfering with some of the internal connectors in PCIe slot 5.. so in theory it could be an issue with the PCIe slot?? Motherboard is relatively new so a dead slot would be surprising but not at all impossible ?
  3. Hi Guys I have just bought a handful of Mellanox connectx-3 10gbe SFP+ cards on the cheap, I have tried the all in a Linux server to test if any of them should be DOA, but happy days all of them are registered and shows up beautifully in Unraid. But when I take the same cards and put them in a Windows 10 pc they just doesn't show up in the BIOS or in device manager? at first I thought it might not be supported, I can however find drivers for my exact Windows 10 version on Mellanox driver page? Any help or reason why I am an idiot who doesn't see the obvious problem would be greatly appreciated
  4. Hi I need a controller for a 8087 sas backplane. The server is a low tier Nas, and I just need a controller that can run 2 x 4 SATA disks through a 8087 sas backplane. The backplane does not support SATA controllers if it is not set to RAID in the BIOS and as far as I know unraid will not detect the disks when set to RAID in the BIOS, so guess a SAS controller is the solution. Any suggestions on what card to get?
  5. Ran the disks bypassing the backplane, and they show up in BIOS, Theoretically the Backplane could by DOA? Or is it simply not possible to connect the disks to the motherboard using a OCR cable? It is an older gen consumer board so don't know if some feature is missing from it making it impossible?
  6. I just Received the OCR cable today and plugged it all in, but I am still having the problem that the Bios is detecting the two Intel SSD but the 4 brand new seagate drives are not being recognized. The drives are spinning, but there is no activity LED, and in unraid the log is displaying SATA LINK DOWN? are there something very obvious I am missing? Cause I am kinda at a loss here. SATA config is set to AHCI in BIOS, Drives are spining and I have a 8087 connector in the backplane and 4 SATA connectors in the motherboard (OCR Cable)
  7. I haven't tried the Asus PG348Q but I have owned the rest of them and currently uses the Alienware. First of all In my opinion you cannot go wrong with any of them with that being said there are some differences especially in feel and build quality. If you love using an ultrawide, and you just want the best overall feel I would recommend the Acer Predator, the build quality seems good and the panel seems sharp and the color accuracy is pretty noticeable when compared to the AOC. A note to the Predator is that the monitor stand has pretty long legs which can be annoying if you don not have a pretty deep desk. Some people have also reported pretty horrific instances of back light bleed on this monitor, but I never had any problems with that. The AOC does seem "cheaper" in build quality and the color accuracy and panel is not equal to the Acer or Alienware, however for gaming it is the best value of the three and I loved when gaming. In the end I kept the Alienware and it ended up honestly being because of the design of the monitor my PC is a very visible part of my office and I just love the looks of it ( I would however not recommend choosing a monitor based on the design ) . panel wise and in gaming I would place it between the Acer and the AOC, as it comes very close to the Acer and in both desktop use and gaming it looks noticeably better than the AOC. Hope it helps at least a little and if not remember I didn't force you to read it
  8. Actually I have a follow up question, as buying from Amazon is a bitch in my region I am looking at local retailers, and the brand the cables as OCR and OCF, which one would be the one corresponding to the one you linked?
  9. Thanks man, I will give the reverse cable a shot
  10. Just tried to hookup the 36pin mini SAS cable to the backplane and the SATA ends of the cable to the motherboard and the disks are not showing up in the UEFI, so I guess the easy way is out of the picture, unless I am using the wrong kind of cable? The thing I dont really understand is that as far as I can see the controller cards people online suggests has two or more SAS connectors on them, so does that mean you will have to run a cable from the backplane to the controller card and from the card to the motherboards sata ports or are the disks picked up through the PCIe when using a sas controller?
  11. Hi I have accumulated a metric ass ton off hardware the last couple of years, and decided to make a server out of some of the parts I had sitting around collecting dust. I have build it in a InterTech 4U 4408 case which has 2x4 3'5 hotswap bays in the front, connected to a backplane running on molex power and a 8087 sas connector per 4 bays. My question what is the easiest way top connect the backplane to the motherboard? I had a couple of cables that has a sas connector in one end and splits in to what I believe is 4 SATA connectors (or a least visually identical to SATA connectors) can this be connected to the motherboards SATA ports, or do I need it to run through a RAID /HBA card to get it to work? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I don't feel like running out and buying things I don't need.
  12. Hey guys Okay first post ever so if I am basically breaking every rule by creating this post I am blaming my law school for not screwing me out of enough money for me to understand the guidelines. So I am currently on a nightshift at IBM of all places, so usually I would ask a technician but I am trusting u guys. I have bought an entirely new system I am putting together tomorrow but I can't figure out if I should keep my current sata SSD as boot drive or if i should install my OS on the my new samsung m.2 nvme drive, if anyone knows wether or not it is worth it I would love your imput. - Thanks
