  1. Thanks for the advice! I'll add some details regarding the situation I am facing, and update my first post with it: I live with my SO. We have very little space where we live atm, so anything else than a mic with integrated cable and passthrough audio is a no go. Which honestly sucks. I'm using a BeyerDynamic modmic (the one from the Custom One Game) and am looking for a not-too-expensive equivalent for my SO since her old mic-on-a-cable stuff died recently. Using any integrated audio (laptop, phone) is a no-go since the noise cancelling on what we have is on par with, huh, no noise cancelling. We would follow your advice if we actually could, as inexpensive USB and/or Lavalier mics have excellent bang-for-your-buck (I checked and yeah, definitely worth considering for a future setup)

Pls send help the modmic market has so few low budget options it feels like I'd be better off buying a headset at that price point, but I don't want to because I already have what I need when it comes to headphones
  3. I had been looking for a game to play with my SO for quite a long time. Being gamers with wildly different tastes (I like fast-paced stuff like Rocket League or Left 4 Dead, she's more into story-driven RPGs), we had trouble finding games we could enjoy together, esp. since MMORPGs are a no-no for me. At some point we kinda gave up and periodically looked for games with no real faith we'd find something. Degrees of Separation is a short, beautiful and cheap game that kind of feels like Trine. The game is cute and relies on intuition and different types of thinking for its puzzles. Some puzzles I'd get quick, and on some she'd get swiftly. I think people who aren't typically gamers could enjoy that one, so here I am recommending it to you. Note that the game isn't perfect and I find the difficulty uneven at some points. While the design is gorgeous it is not graphically that advanced - which is kinda good as it can thus run on a toaster - so if you're looking for next-gen 3D and FX this might not be what you're looking for. If you're seeking a few hours of relaxing - and at times head-scratching - casual gameplay, innovative elements and cute storytelling, I strongly recommend Degrees of Separation. Another strong point is this game is available on PC, PS4, XBone, and Switch, so chances are you already have something to play it on. Official website: https://dofsgame.com/
  4. Nine Parchments is a beauty, kinda feels like it's inspired by Magicka by taking the best ideas and dding a lot of polish! I already have Trine, so we've played it a bit, Frozenbyte always delivers I didn't know about Nine Parchments so thank you for that discovery!
  5. I get where you're coming from, tho she's not a fan of the fps genre and is hyped about RPGs in general I told her about every option in the answers here and the decision is one taken by the both of us. As she and I are linked on most social media I've taken the habit of not speaking in her name in public posts (and it's just sticking here even tho she's not in this forum)
  6. Not necessarily a shooter, what I need above all is a coop game with controller support FPS games are too challenging for me to play on a controller (the dual joystick controls just don't get into my head so I have no fun with those). Portal 2 can be played with a slower pace so it is a good idea, also just a mythic game (that's been sitting in my library for a while since I last finished it). Excellent idea! I've been doing some research too, and Divinity: Original Sin II is a strong contender imo, can be run with surprisingly low-performing gear
  7. Mythic games, I can't play any fps properly while using a controller, but had fun with those using kbm :)
  8. My partner just got a new laptop with a GPU that enables light gaming, and we're looking for a title we can play together. We like to play co-op story-driven games, RPGs (not MMORPGs tho), platformers, and fighting games! We also need the game to be playable with a controller. As my laptop (the machine I'll use to play with her) has better performance than hers, here's some info on her config: CPU: i5-10210U (1.6GHzx4, 8 threads, max turbo 4.2GHz) GPU: GeForce MX250 (slightly better than a GTX 650, as seen here => https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GeForce-MX250-vs-Nvidia-GTX-650/m762458vs3154) RAM: 8GB Looking forward to testing your suggestions
  9. Quite fast tbh, thinking of using Prime. We both don't trust the French secondhand market for laptops and need AZERTY kbs so French market only unfortunately (adding these details to the original post)
  10. HI! I'm in France, living confinement to the fullest (aka working from home). My partner's laptop https://support.hp.com/ee-en/document/c05865302 just died from what I assume is a mobo seppuku. Tried to save it by replacing the RAM (according to the BSOD error code that was the problem), but to no avail. We don't have any spare setup to use at the time. So we're looking for any option that can easily do basic productivity tasks (Office suite stuff, some light photo editing, basic webdesign). Light gaming abilities would be a plus. We don't have a lot of budget - and frankly, shouldn't need to spend much on such a machine - so I know options with good build quality are going to be few, but I figured this forum was one of the best places where I could seek advice. We are in a hurry, as we are currently down to one PC only, which I use to work all day (my partner's occupation can't be done remotely so she's... kinda stuck with me). I think I'll use Prime to order within this week. We need a new laptop as we both don't trust the French secondhand market. French as we are, we absolutely need an AZERTY kb (numpad is a plus) so we're stuck with the French market. Hope you're all healthy. EDIT: After a lot of web crawling from the both of us, we confirmed it's near impossible to find a sturdy-ish machine at that price point. We ended up deciding to up the budget by, huh, more? We just ordered this nice machine that seems to me like it can handle many years of bureautics and some light (or retro) gaming: https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B07YD38KCX As in a lot of tales of buying new stuff the solution was, heh, more money
  11. Those are well-known and popular here: https://amazon.fr https://www.ldlc.com/ https://www.materiel.net/ https://www.topachat.com/ https://www.grosbill.com/ I think I found the one, I'll wait and see what the boss thinks... https://www.topachat.com/pages/detail2_cat_est_ordinateurs_puis_rubrique_est_w_porgam_puis_ref_est_in10115242.html#fiche-technique In English: https://www.gigabyte.com/Laptop/Sabre-15
  12. It is, I don't need a lot of color quality tho it's appreciated. LCD could do ^^ Amazon is preferred, but as long as it works in France and is reliable any could do. No real need for the pc to be especially light or have high battery life - it's not going to travel a lot, mostly once a week, and can stay plugged most of the time I'll use it
  13. It's near perfect, just needs a numpad to suit me (forgot to say it in the first post so I'm editing it)... The 1050 is also overkill for my use (no 3D in my job) I'll look more into Dell's offers I'm kinda disappointed in myself because I didn't get something more like that as my personal laptop tho
  14. Being French and having used AZERTY KBs all my life, I just need it my boi
  15. Hello, I'm looking for a laptop for my work, but can't seem to find the sweet, bottleneck-less spot... A little background here: my job is quite hybrid as I'm basically my company's tech support guy, and that includes support dev (mostly web stuff). So I'm constantly running a gazillion Chrome tabs, Visual Studio, client VMs, a VoIP app, Teams and Outlook. For the time being I'm working with my personal laptop, config is: * Windows 10 * Core i5 7300HQ * 6Go DDR4 * GTX 1050 * 256GB SSD * 1TB HDD Product page: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05865279/ Now, while its CPU is clearly up to the task, my PC's RAM is always filled to the brim. So I can choose a company laptop that's under 1500$, but I don't know exactly what to get, as most laptops don't cater to the kind of use I'll have. The reason I need a laptop in the first place is I want to be able to work from home as I have some phone hours in times it's inconvenient for me to go to the office. What I need: * a good proc that'll handle that stuff, but no need to go too high end * at least 256GB of storage (SSD preferably) * a screen that's at least 15 inches * moar RAM than I have right now * existing AZERTY version (I'm in France so basically PCs that are on the French market have it) * Numpad on keyboard * croissants because those are delicious but that's not the point It doesn't need to be lightweight or have a high battery life: it's going to travel about once a week between my office and my home, and it's mostly going to be on a dedicated desk. I can work with a meh screen, what I need above all is a smooth workflow. Anybody have an idea about where I could start to search, or even better, a laptop model that fits my uses?
