  1. Hi All, I have a lack of data storage solution between my wifes Laptop & my PC for critical things we dont want to loose - Video's, a ton of Photo's, Documents etc. Ive been thinking of purchasing x4 4TB Harddrives to have as storage for the 2 of us, to run in 2x Raid 1. My line of thinking is I could install them in my Windows 10 PC & have the drives availible over wifi at home. Im hoping there is a software solution (perhaps web based?) where my wife & I can simply drag & drop items from my Android Phone, her Iphone & both our Windows 10 PCs to our respective 4TB (Raid 1) Id like to have these drives pysically located in my windows 10 PC which I mainly use for Youtube & Games, but separate from that system. Does such a solution exist? Sorry my understanding of networking & Raid storage is limited, as well as trying to save on the cost of a full blown external NAS setup. My PC - i5-6600, GTX 960 4GB, 16GB Ram with 5G wifi card to our ISP router. Rick
  2. Thanks for your answers, My intention is to have the games installed on the boot drive but have as much of each game as possible still on external drive connected via USB3 (ie the steamapps folder). For the ones that I have to have on the boot drive, I will copy them over. I dont intend to dual boot, I want to make a clean break from Windows. The boot drive will be an old 120GB Corsair SSD ive had for years, and the external is a 480GB Kingston SSD (this is my current Windows boot drive & only drive in the PC). I was thinking id just delete all the Windows files on it & keep the game & my personal files. Rix
  3. Hi All, im finally in a position to make the full switch to Linux, I've decided on either Ubuntu 18.04 or Elementary OS 5.1. My plan is to keep all my important files, docs, music, photo's etc along with my windows game files on a external SSD, and have only my OS & programs on the Boot drive - so if I dont wind up liking the experience after 6 months, I wont have to move all my files or re-download things. My questions are 2 fold - my SSD with everything on it is formatted NTFS - will that be a problem for playing games & generally accessing everything from the boot drive? Also, am I able to play Windows games from the external SSD? The games I usually play are Mechwarrior Online (steam), Apex Legends (Origin) & World of Warcraft (Bliz) I've tried googling the answer but I get a mixed response. My plan is to use Steam (Proton) & Lutris. Rix
  4. Apologies Ryan, I did this on my crappy little 4.5 inch smartphone during my lunch break. I did check the guidelines and thought I had it covered.
  5. Hi all, this was linked by a friend to me on Facebook from PC Case Gear, looks like Steam lost their appeal to the ACCC and are now required to adhere to Australian Consumer Laws again. I think what PC Case gear are saying is correct and could be potentially problematic for Steam & Valve so maybe they will restrict access to games with Australian IPs until they can be sure? Rick
  6. The 4TB HDD with Media on it is formatted to NTFS and the 1TB SSHD im going to use for Network Storage till I buy a NAS drive is also NTFS. I do want to access both of them off the network with my wife's Windows 10 Laptop, my Windows 10 PC & a both an Android Phone & an iPhone.
  7. G'day, I am building a media centre / Nas box out of some old hardware, I have installed Ubuntu server on a SSD (trying to learn Linux as I go) but I also want to add 2 other HDDs - 1 which will be a blank drive which will be for network storage, the other a 4TB drive which already has media on it. My question is, can I (& if so how) add the drive with media on it without having to reformat it and have Ubuntu read the files already on it like windows would? Thanks in advance. Rix
  8. Yes it does, though not with the new cable. I bought the new cable because I needed a longer one. When you turn the PC off, the monitor appears to go into standby mode, and then puts up a msg saying to check the input. I have checked all available settings on the monitor but there is nothing in there about power and it is on PC mode. The settings are all as they were with the old HDMI cable, which still turns the monitor off when the PC is shut down. I have read something about the monitor not receiving a msg from the PC to turn off which prompted me to check the drivers and the like but no solution there either.
  9. I have been through all of the settings including resetting the entire the monitor & adjusted the PC / AV setting to no avail
  10. Hi all, I am looking for a solution or an answer as to why my monitor doesn't go into standby now I have changed the HDMI cable? It is the only change I have made. I purchased a http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/162381921348?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&var=461411165906&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT from eBay as they were a good price and I needed a longer cable for the new room my PC is in. It goes from my Gigabyte GTX960 WF OC 4GB card to my Samsung S22B350H Monitor. However since swapping the cables, my monitor no longer goes into sleep mode when you power down the PC. I have tried messing with the Windows Power plans, and updating drivers as suggested by Googling but no luck so far. I know its only a little gripe as I can just turn off the monitor but how can a simple cable change can reduce the functionality I previously had? Cheers in advance, Rix

  12. Once other resellers in Oz start listing prices it will be in the same ballpark. I follow PLE because they are closest to me
  13. Using Google Currency Converter $699US becomes $912AUD + 10% GST = $1003AUD. Assuming correct figures, taxes etc.. A single RX480 is still an upgrade for me so not something im gonna spend money on, just a pipe dream unless AMD Vega has the same effect as RYZEN on the market
  14. $1199 Australian listed today @ PLE. Crazy expensive... https://www.ple.com.au/Products/627313/Gigabyte-GeForce-GTX1080Ti-Founders-Edition-11GB-GDDR5X-HDMI-3xDisplayPort
