  1. Ah I see, I think balance is key for me here because I don't want to waste money on a really good GPU if my CPU is going to bottleneck it but equally not sure if a full upgrade is worth it, I'm honestly even considering buying an Xbox as it might work out cheaper for a better experience, especially since I only use it for gaming
  2. I currently have a B450 board so I don't think I have a direct upgrade path unless I update the bios which would allow me to go to Zen 2?
  3. Ah I see, that's the sort of upgrade I'd be looking for, do you think I would see those sorts of performance increases even with my current CPU or would it bottleneck?
  4. I'd be driving a 1080p 24' 144HZ display as of now. As I said in another response I thought it was a GPU issue because when I turned the settings down in COD and then OC'ed the 1070ti it stopped stuttering and became shockingly playable in comparison
  5. Yeah, I initially thought that I was being CPU bottlenecked because it's the lesser of the two components but all my issues with COD stopped when I just turned down the in-game settings and OC'ed the GPU so that's what made me think that it was GPU upgrade time. As for the cost, the last time I bought a GPU was this 1070ti and I got it for 185 GBP on eBay so looking at modern GPU prices has me pretty shocked, it's not necessarily that I can't spend more than 300 GBP but I would feel pretty irresponsible to do so given my personal situation. Thanks for the link I'll be sure to check it out.
  6. Hello all, I built my pc about 5 years ago (I think) with a Ryzen 2600 and a Gtx 1070ti but recently it's starting to struggle (COD MW2, Jedi Survivor) and I was wondering what would be a worthwhile upgrade ( I like to play at minimum 60fps at 1080p medium to high settings). I only really use my desktop for gaming so I was planning on upgrading my GPU but I'm not sure what would be a decent value for money. I'd prefer not to spend over 300 GBP but I would be willing to spend more if it will last me for a few years. I've had to put quite a steep OC on my 1070ti to make COD playable, and even then the settings are rather low. Secondary question, what would be the best GPU I could get before I start to get a CPU bottleneck? Thanks for all your help :)
  7. No, I have very limited troubleshooting tecniques available to me which is why I posted here, I was just wondering if there is a know issue with these drives or smthn. It's detecting the drive, as in it shows up in windows and I can see the name and icon for the drive in file explorer but when I click on it nothing happens, in the format menu it says that the drive is not initialised but when I try to format it is says it is not found.
  8. I belive so, its hard to tell because it has a metal shroud on the device and is near the psu so its hard to tell if the vibrations/sound id the drive or the fan
  9. I built my desktop 4/5 years ago and I've had a 1TB Seagate 7200rpm hard drive as my bulk storage for games and such for that entire time. last night I went to launch a game stored on that drive and it said the game wasn't found, I restarted the computer and the drive now shows up with just the letter it was assigned 'D' with a big blue question mark over it in file explorer (I'm on windows), my boot drive and my other bulk storage drive show up and I swapped the cables with the two bulk storage drives and It still didn't work, could someone advise me on what the best course of action would be to get this to work again. thankyou.
  10. yes I am although the reason this happened was because I was trying to create an install of ubuntu on a thumb drive
  11. I dont understand what you mean by a weird position?
  12. I was trying to install ubuntu on my laptop running windows 11 and when I did it said that the ubuntu installation would not work because bitlocker was on, as I exited the setup manager to turn bitlocker off it locked by main drive and is asking for my key. This would normally be fine as it directs you to a link for your Microsoft account and you would find it there and be done with it, the issue is that when I go there its the Microsoft website and it says something along the lines of "we have nothing for you here". basically, how do I go about requesting my bitlocker key from ms? thanks
  13. Ok thanks I'll look into this, any ideas on how hard this would be?
  14. Christmas 2018 I built myself a new pc with a used rx580 8GB off Ebay. Recently, over the last few weeks my fan has started to scratch a bit and make noises. Whe I removed the card I've noticed that the fan closest to the ports is sticking slightly and doesnt spin freely, I used a cotton bud to clean the dust off the fan blades. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to fix this or alternatively, if I can simply tape the fan so it doesn't spin and make the awful noise it is currently making or will this week performance and ruin the lifespan of the card? Thanks.
