The 3950x is slow as molasses. Yes it will bottleneck. Even the 7950x bottlenecks the 4090, it's that powerful. I would just throw a 5800x3d in there and call it a day

I've been watching a lot of content on the 4090s and with Buildzoid coming out with his two board analysis videos I wanted a quick reference to all 4090 cards in terms of VRM arrangements. It's interesting seeing the wild variance from the Halo cards (Suprim, STRIX, AIRO) and the OC cards (Trio, TUF, Trinity). This is very much a surface level analysis, but should provide some insight in terms of which cards will have the most robust VRM arrangements.
One thing I will comment on, the Trinity OC seems to be seriously woefully underpowered VRM wise, doing some of my own calculations, you should be expecting ~75W of heat to be generated at 400A (440W at 1.1V) by the VRM's alone, which is... quite excessive.

There was also a massive hit to performance when the following items were introduced.
Pixel Shaders Real-time lighting and shadows Tessellation HDR lighting Performance will improve over time. Ray Tracing is the holy grail of lighting models; there's no chance of it going away.

As far as RT performance on RTX 3000 vs RX 6000 cards, it is literally impossible for the RX 6000 cards to match the RTX 3000 cards on Ray Tracing performance. The RTX 3000 cards are already on their 2nd generation Ray Tracing hardware (RTX 2000 was 1st gen), and they simply have more of it. No amount of driver optimization will change the hardware differences.

DLSS enabled cards are simply more versatile than those that aren't, because AMD chose to allow FSR to work cross-platform, which allows Nvidia cards to upscale in more games. And when DLSS is implemented, it is usually better.

As far as AMD Ray Tracing vs Nvidia 3000 series Ray Tracing...it's not comparable. The AMD cards physically just have less potent and numerous Ray Tracing hardware.

If these features are important to you, then the only option at all is Nvidia.

But again, none of that matters if availability isn't there. This has been the biggest problem with AMD. They have consistently not had MSRP stock available, and even if they were better across the board, there's still going to be more people buying Nvidia cards simply because there's more available.

So yes, everyone and their grandma has Nvidia, but mostly because there really wasn't an option otherwise.

Strap a couple of fans to that GPU heatsink. It's designed to be hit with constant air pressure resulting from high-speed fans.

    Sustained clocks.

I just played Doom Eternal Maxed out at 4K + Ray Tracing and no DLSS. My RTX 3080 FE is hitting 80C and the actual core clocks are dropping below 1800 Mhz at times. This is normal behavior for a GPU that is being stressed to the max. This new generation of GPUs are pushed to the absolute max as far as transistor tech goes. In order to get higher clocks, you have to increase cooling capacity through something like water cooling.

There are ways to overcome the "scalping" issue. The first is to stop buying from them. The second is to figure out a method to track when cards drop and be ready to jump on them when they do.

As for the "whining", I do feel the pain of those that have held out this long to try and get a new card, but if you have a GPU that's good enough, keep it until you get another. The big issue I have seen everywhere is that people sold their old cards before they got a new one, and thus were left stranded with a PC and no GPU. This is ALWAYS a risky maneuver, and this time, it really bit some people in the butt.

GPUs are a luxury item; you don't need one unless you're using it for accelerated visual computing work that takes advantage of the GPGPU capabilities. I maintain that if you have to sell your old one to be able to afford a new one, you can't afford the new one.

GPUs, especially high-end modern ones, are a luxury, not a necessity. This is how the free market and supply/demand works.

MadPistol got a reaction from SFFDesigns in wait i thought RTX 3090 is the best Gpu out there
UserBenchmark... when will people stop using this?

The RTX 3090 has 24GB VRAM, more VRAM bandwidth, DLSS capability, and better Ray Tracing performance. It also will beat a 6900 XT at 4K performance roughly 90% of the time, and it has enough VRAM and bandwidth to handle 8K (although this one is reaching as it's still not that fast).

It is almost guaranteed that an RTX 3090 will long outlast a 6900 XT in usability. That does not mean an RX 6900 XT is a bad card... far from it. But nobody should be choosing an RX 6900 XT over an RTX 3090 if given a choice between the 2.
