Rehmat got a reaction from leadeater in LMG Server Software
I was only joking about LTT being enterprise. Lol. My homelab is more of a hobby to me than anything else at the moment. Was interersted to see what Linus decided to go with in the end. I think that ZFS ontop of Ubuntu 18.04TLS will do the trick alongside NFS over 10G

Rehmat got a reaction from babadoctor in Ubuntu server 16.0.4 won't connect to internet after plugging it into different router
@babadoctorHi there. Sometimes ubuntu forgets to ask the router to be assigned an ip. To resolve this first make sure that you have root (sudo) level permissions. Then follow this guide:
https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/howto-linux-renew-dhcp-client-ip-address/
Hope this helps

Rehmat got a reaction from v0nN3umann in Have to setup multiple PC's, can I clone them?
If they have windows already installed and you just want them to all run the same software applications then ignore my above post and do the following:
Set up 1 pc how you need it.
Then create an image of the OS
Go to the other 7 pc's and restore from the image.
They will still use their own product keys.
BTW if you would like to extract they keys for usage on other machines then look at this:

Rehmat got a reaction from DeaconFrost in Have to setup multiple PC's, can I clone them?
Install all the software on one machine.
Then remove the hardrives from the rest of them.
One by one clone the hdd that you installed windows on to the other hdd's.
After this they will all be activated with the same key.
To get around this issue go to control panel and then go to system. [or type in activate in the search bar]
And click change product key. This will open a popup that asks you to enter a new key to activate.
Job done.
To clone use a software like Macrium Reflect which is free.

Rehmat reacted to Eniqmatic in Dell R620 VS R710 VS something else
I'd definitely go for the R620, the 11G series servers were a massive step up and they are good, but if you can get a 12G server then go for it assuming it fits your needs. They were just a bit "nicer", iDrac is nicer on them with more info and features, power consumption is lower, noise is better and it has a few more creature comforts. Lifecycle controller/BIOS was better on them too. Newer generation of CPU's too. So for me the R620 wins every time, assuming you don't need a 2U chassis. I've got a R420 which is pretty similar to the R620 in form factor and it's pretty quiet tbh.
Switches, it can really come down to what you have used more or are more familiar with. HP commands are different to Dell and different to Cisco, even some of the products within Dell are different to other Dells, since they acquired some networking companies. Powerconnects will be the cheapest Dell ones you will get, they were the kind of entry level switches so look out for them, HP ones are good too, I really dislike HP servers (personal preference) but I really like their switches. Although I work extensively on Dell switches, they are good also. Although I don't have experience with Powerconnects really, we use their higher end switches.

Rehmat got a reaction from Lurick in Another Petabyte
@Lurick Linus mentioned in a previous video that the second 45drives server was powered of for a while to save on power on hours on the drives themselves but has since turned both servers on as is visible is his 10gig internet video.

Rehmat got a reaction from Mad153 in Bargain???
Hi there, was looking for some 10gbe network cards. Are these any good. Seem pretty cheap for what they are.
Has anybody had any experience with them? Are they a good deal?
Thanks in advance

Rehmat got a reaction from agust in HELP: 10GBE NAS
Hi there
I am building a NAS with 10gbe base-t for backups of large amounts of data at a single time. This server will have 3 clients max at any one time.
Would the following be ok. I understand that the spinning drives will not be able to transfer at 10gbe speeds, however i want this to be the only bottleneck.
both hdds will be in a single raid 1 and the ssds in a seperate raid. thus crating two shares. I know that the hardware is on the old side but its pretty cheap and reliable.
Also have the a similar setup at home with standard gigabit network providing 120mb/s linux to widnows clients
CPU: i3 2120 or e3 1220l
COOLER: artic alpine 11
MOTHERBAORD: intel dq67ow
RAM: 8gb ddr3 1300mhz
NIC: cheapest 10gbe base-t at time of purchase probably melanox
HDD 1: seagate 15k sas drive 500gb
HDD 2: seagate 15k sas drive 500gb
SSD 1: samsung 1tb 960
SSD2: samsung 1tb 960
lemme know if the cpu is a bottleneck for 10gbe,
I will be using lubuntu LTS with samba.
