Will AMD GPUs begin to be much more appealing than Nvidia?
Hi P replied to Hi P's topic in Graphics Cards
I was planing on the 4080 since I wanted to make the jump to 4k. I was mainly interested in last gen since I thought: "If I'm gonna spend that much money, it better be the newest" In terms of raw performance, do you think the 7900 XTX will crush or be even with the 4080? Hehe I also think like that, as I get older and have other things to pay But since I rarely (if ever) upgrade my PC, I think it's okay if I upgrade my GPU and use it for 3+ years -
I was just watching Linus most recent video: Nvidia is Clearly Better, Right? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkfFvEeVC4w As mentioned in the video, there are some features in which Nvidia simply has the winning hand, but for a higher price. By looking at the comparisons between RTX 3000 and RX 6000 series price to performance, the difference is quite noticeable in favor of AMD. Now with the RTX 4000 and RX 7000 series, I can't wait to see the comparisons for RTX 4080 and below. I was so down to purchase a 4080 but I might just go AMD depending on the benchmarks

Lately I've been playing the BioShock saga, which thanks to their lightness I'm stable at 165 FPS (my monitor cap refresh rate), the smoothness feels really good even for single player games, IMO Hehe my bad, yes I meant 1440p (I thought they were the same), I will edit it

Which monitor is it???? If I can get a monitor like that but OLED next year, I'm so insta-buying
-
Let's say for the sake of it that your system easily support both options. Would you rather game at 1440p 240 FPS or 4k at 120 FPS? And why?
-
Gaming mostly. Programing during work hours, but on the second monitor I tend to throw YouTube, Slack or something, but it's a slight hassle having to turn the head I can't fathom having to use 3 or 4 monitors Perhaps my problem is that I have the monitors kinda close, they are sitting on my rather small desk, I could try wall mounting them and pull back the desk

I've been using two monitors since last year and I still don't get used to it I'm very used to my left monitor which is nearly in front of me, but I have to turn my head just a bit to see the right monitor which is slightly bothersome. I lie to myself saying that I need that second monitor but, truth be told, I could be perfectly fine without it. Then I see people with 3 monitors, how do you do that???

Are NVMe drives useful for gaming? Who needs PCIe 5.0?
Hi P replied to Hi P's topic in Storage Devices
Hehe you guys were right, last time I bought an NVMe was some years ago and the prices weren't what I just saw on Amazon minutes ago Or at least I don't recall their prices to be this equal around 3 years ago, but I could be wrong- 14 replies

This morning I came across a blog that talked about Microsoft's DirectStorage 1.1 with GPU decompression, which if I understood correctly, will benefit games running on NVMe drives. But right now, what's the benefit of using an NVMe over a SATA SSD? The boot and load times are nearly identical, but the price isn't. So aside from DirectStorage, who really needs the speeds of an NVMe PCIe 4.0 / 5.0?

@Doobeedoo@SolarNovaI'm waiting for the 16:9 OLED monitors, if I recall correctly LG is gonna release some next year

I do have a 2.1 system, I'm happy with it but I'd like having something more immersive, hence the plans for 5.1

I plan to go to the store either today or tomorrow to see them with my own eyes, I don't recall how they look hehe, I want to buy one soon For those who have OLED, how good is it compared to LCD and LED displays?
-
But don't you have issues when consuming media content? (Youtube, Netflix, etc) Due to them not being 21:9 / 32:9 for the most part Same question for @CommanderAlex

I'm used ro 16:9 aspect ratio, so 21:9 sounds really weird for me Do most games support that aspect ratio? What about most videos / movies / etc?

Same I was thinking on buying a soundbar to replace my speakers, but I had a better idea. I'll buy a 5.1 system and place the speakers on the upper corners of the room, some cable management here and there, some cable extensions... it'll look and sound beautiful (on paper, hehe)

By surround-sound system I mean for example, 2.1 or 5.1 speaker systems. Are soundbars far behind them in terms of sound quality or are they similar?

What's the difference? I'd like to believe that G-Sync would be better due to having an actual physical module in the monitors But every time I look up this kind of question, the blogs come down to "It depends" or something similar... What's the clear answer to this question?
-
You should give a chance to 90hz, it honestly feels really good and isn't that GPU intensive

The thing is... I didn't notice the difference, it felt really smooth, is that what G-Sync and FreeSync are supposed to do? Because if the answer is yes, I wish I had knew about this for a really long time.
-
I literally just realized that I didn't revert the 88 FPS cap when I reverted to 144hz refresh rate Probably due to G-Sync I didn't notice, so yes, 90 is perfectly playable

I've been watching build videos about them for a couple months, but I was thinking... why would I need it? Because there could be the argument of portability, which IMO isn't valid for two reasons: You still gotta move the monitor, desk, chair, peripherals, etc. SFF is expensive, I highly doubt someone would want to carry them as a laptop. What's left after that? Perhaps the simple hobby / challenge of building something ever so small could be fun, is that it?

Are AIO GPUs worth it in the long term? Are they reliable?

Is AlphaCool the go-to for GPU AIOs? -

That sounds scary, but definitely interesting -

So you buy any GPU then install yourself the AIO?
