  1. One, yes it is dodgy. of course there's tax, but that should be up front. G2A shield is a sham, because you can use PayPal, or chargeback via your bank. And in most countries you don't give up your right to getting a working product by not purchasing g2a shield. "you still got the game cheaper" Sure, but how did i get it cheaper? not dodgy at all. By the way, i haven't bought it. I got that g2a code off a youtube video released today. And if you'd read my post, you would've noticed that i said "i used a second, working code to try and purchase it". And i googled "g2a discount code" to get it. Also read the above.
  2. yes, but why? the Youtuber in question is still using it on their latest videos. And they're by no means a small youtuber. If you had read it, you would've seen that i used a second code, and it was confirmed working. Then i got into paypal and went "what the hell it's the same cost" Please read my edit, it's taken out of the additional cost
  3. Title says it all. I tried to use the discount code FRAGS (you may recognise the Youtuber that the code belongs to), and it said that the code was invalid because it had been used a "maximum number of times". EDIT: I removed the below because apparently it's taken out of that "additional cost" Still, any advice on the above?
  4. Wasn't that the proviso for season 2? Or is that intended?
  5. I'm seeing this kinda thing a fair bit now. IMO, the surface book is not a gaming laptop. It's got the nvidia gpu for on the go video editing. That's based on their marketing, and my gut feeling.
  6. I'm betting on a 955m, since it's an unreleased gpu (i read this.. somewhere) Either way, still very low power. To me, it doesn't matter. This isn't a gaming laptop.
  7. Okay 780 then. Guess the second bit was meant for OP, since i said that as well.
  8. Agreed. getting a 4690 also means no need for z97. so we can get a cheaper board. Not sure about the 780 vs 970. PSU? Yeah 650 is a little overkill. But when get into the futureproofing debate. Gah, that word again
  9. Ah thanks, i wasn't solid on it's positioning. I suppose it'll hold well into the future. Agreed on the 970 then?
  10. No worries okay so what happened was that intel released the 4670k and the 4770k cpus. Due to some kind of design problem, they ran hot, especially when overclocked. Intel released haswell refresh. the same cpus, but they fixed something (i think it was the heat spreader) so they didn't run as hot. those haswell refresh cpus were the 4690k (which i have, and recommend) and the 4790k. Was it a samsung 840 evo or 850 evo? IIRC the 970 sits between the 280x and the 290. Also between the 380x and the 390. Not 100% on that though. yeah the coolermaster hyper 212 evo is the go to cpu cooler for... everyone... Although, if you're not going to be overclocking, don't buy a cpu cooler. The stock intel one is fine for that, but do not overclock with it!
  11. okay. This isn't to say that your picks are bad, but here's some suggestions - CPU. If you want this thing to last, and you're getting an aftermarket cpu cooler, then you must want to overclock. By all reports, haswell doesn't overclock well due to temperatures. Devils canyon (ie haswell with better heat management, the 4690k and 4790k) will be a better choice. - you don't need that cpu cooler. CM Hyper 212 evo is the undisputed king here - intel 530: you can get a samsung 850 evo for that price - gtx 970. if you want it to last a number of years into the future. Well IMO 3.5 GB isn't enough here, but opinions may vary - kingston hyper x cloud. there's a hyper x 2, and i think it's the same price. I have the hyper x 1st gen, and it's great That's my 2 cents
  12. Haha wow, the easiest fix. Removing the ethernet cable fixed it. The apps are a little slower than normal, but definitely fine. I've been to scared to remove the ethernet cable, because back when i had a galaxy s3, i would remove the ethernet cable each time i wanted to tether. After a while ethernet stopped working, and i had to reset the cmos to get it working again.
  13. Oh yeah i forgot to mention that, Apple also has crap hardware in there, but i don't use a laptop for gaming or video editing, so it doesn't matter that much to me. OSX is definitely easier, but it achieves that by stripping away all the customisation. It's like the whole IOS and Android debate. Use the one which works for you. Windows & linux work better for me. Also, Windows is free as well! [okay, not really]As for membership... Well the fee is that you won't be able to stop upgrading
  14. I get that a lot, but everything is ridiculously expensive, so it's not any easier. eastern AU isn't so bad, but WA....
  15. Feel our pain Sorry, i have nothing to contribute, apart from what swiftXshadow said. use PCpartpicker. Even if you have to do custom parts for everything,it'll be easier to use pcpartpicker My rig cost $1900, including peripherals, and you can make some much better decisions than i did. http://au.pcpartpicker.com/user/thorpj/saved/tZy8TW
  16. Haha fair enough, i would to. So i'm a Windows & Linux guy, who somehow got a macbook five years ago, and i've gotta say i love macbooks. They're ridiculously expensive, and they run OSX, but if i wanted a laptop that would last, i'd get one and slap windows on it, because honestly, they're really good. But the surface book is a solid contendor. On the other hand, i hate Apple for what they did with the BIOS & EUFI on my macbook. I'm not going to go into it, but basically i have pages upon pages of bookmarks for when i had to do research for installing windows on it (and i don't mean the pansy boot camp way) You will join sign up for a full membership with us one day
  17. So i've just bought a Moto X Style, and i've got two months of free, fast internet (considering my home broadband is 4 mbps, and the 4g is around 24mbps...) However, whenever i go to tether the phone to my PC, it works, but strange things happen. Note that none of this happens when not tethered. Windows 10, specs are in the description I've got the motorola usb driver installed, and the motorola daemon running. These are the programs that misbehave while tethered, and their symptoms. - The network and sharing centre (need this to disable ethernet while tethered). Opening by right clicking on the network indicator on the taskbar, it takes ages to launch. Also takes ages to disable the ethernet adaptor, as it takes ages to navigate. Takes ages to close as well. - task manager, it takes ages to close. - windows media player - hangs on startup - itunes, hangs on startup - sometimes the start menu can be slow to open, but i'm using a third party one now, and there's been no trouble with that. - mailbird. When i open it from the taskbar it takes ages to launch, but clicking the button in the taskbar action centre (i actually don't know the name for it...) - World of tanks: it crashes occasionally. Note that this may also occur on ethernet, i haven't been able to test that, so it may be a recent update to WoT causing this one. I can't find anything online about this. It's such a weird issue... God dammit Windows. Also just today i've been having problems with pages becoming extremely slow to load (due to internet/data traffic from phone, not PC itself) occasionally. Something about security issue, i can give more detail on this if you think it's important. Thanks in advance, if you've got any advice on this weird windows quirk.
  18. I know mate, just joking with you. If i wanted to buy a laptop right now (well, when it releases), that would last, then it would probably be the surface book. Bear in mind, i'm currently using a macbook mid 2010 (with an SSD) running windows 10, for when i'm away from my pc.
  19. Exactly! If you're a student buying a surface book, then you can afford lots of F1 cars!
  20. I think it looks awesome. Being a techie, i can appreciate what looks like a fair bit of engineering ingenuity. I'm waiting to see what the processor is. Also the price is rather massive. Justified, yes, but that doesn't make it any easier to bear... I had a good lol when Microsoft said that the surface pro 4 is going to replace laptops. *What, like your laptop, Microsoft?*
  21. I can resize in Disk Utility. That's 8 Gigs extra for Windows. Might not seem like much, but considering that it's a 120GB SSD. 7%! https://goo.gl/photos/mhotjWeqm7YG8RDv5
  22. I had this problem (also with a seagate 1TB). it occurred when i was dual booting win 8 and the win10 preview. I solved it by changing user permissions on the folders within the driver (and on the driver itself). I'm not going to explain how. You should know what you're doing before you mess with file permissions...
  23. Hi I'm trying to install windows on my macbook. It's got a 120GB SSD (that i put in there, mind you: this is an old macbook), and boot camp refuses to make the OSX partition smaller than 29GB, 18GB free. Once i have windows installed, i'll never touch OSX again, but i need that 18Gigs for Windows. So, any ideas? Thanks
