  1. The 760 wouldn't be drawing as much power and providing so much heat as a 780ti, which explains why your PSU is causing the problems now.
  2. Ha ha ha, yeh its fun here hay. I think iinets ad portrays the situation. They have an ad on speedtest.net saying "Your internet is slower than romania" with a picture of a vampire.
  3. Luke and Logan disagreed with ATTs classification of broadband as 4 megabits. I trust Linus. I think that a deep dislike-bordering-on-hatred exists in all techies against ISPs, because we know they're trying to shaft us.
  4. The first video that introduced me to Linus Tech Tips was your video on NCIX about futureproofing. From then on, i was roped - you had that personality, and you were an awesome presenter. Its amazing to see how much things have evolved. I'm sure that if you put up a million vacancies for employment, you'd get a million applications! Almost everything that i know about PCs, is thanks to you guys at LTT, and you're the reason I fell in love with PCs and built my first. Speaking of building my PC, if it weren't for the awesome people in the LTT community (big thanks to Faruko and Dragoon20005 for helping me out) my PC would be an expensive brick! And my favourite food is news, especially Keys Vs Linus edition! A big thanks to: Linus, Luke, Edzel, Brandon, Taran and Nick I'm not sure who the other awesome person is, but i'd like to find out. (don't forget guys, only one post each in the thread, so if you know their name then PM me (unless you're one of the 7 people))
  5. Of course they're going to be more expensive to produce at first. And maxwell is going to be a big hit for AMD, but AMD are more about value and budget than top performers.
  6. A single gtx 970 or 980 could be an excellent choice. They will be more expensive, but if you don't get any of them then they will at least cause previous gen NVIDIA cards to drop in price (over time) and it could lead to AMD price drops, because the 970 and 980 are going to smash anything AMD has, and so they will focus more on perf/dollar and good value.
  7. Crossfire introduces a load of problems, you never know if it will affect you or not. A reference 290 will have heat problems. Get one with an aftermarket cooler and you won't Also the heat of 2x 280x will be more than even 1 reference 290. Your board doesn't support SLI
  8. You won't break something. you might have to use a ping or something to push the clip on the GPU power cables, but its easy. Youtube is your friend If you don't then you won't be able to upgrade.
  9. With a 450 watt PSU, you won't be using a 290 or doing any crossfire/sli IMO, Sli is more stable than crossfire, although your board may not support it.
  10. How do you know for sure that there won't be a ti?
  11. Wait for a 980ti, Those who get a 980 are probably going to miss out.. Its like getting a titan, when 780tis were round the corner, and a lot of people got pissed off...
  12. Windows 8.1 + startisback. It has a 30 day trial, and uses about 0.8 megabytes of my 8 gigs of ram. It has plenty of customisation. I tried modernmix, and some other stardock apps, but they just made my 4 month old PC extremely sluggish. Closing a metro app took 5 seconds when it should take a millisecond! I've also heard that Windows 9 will be free to xp, vista and 7 owners. At the very least it will be very cheap for xp, but more than likely free to xp and vista. These are just some sources i found online. Not definite yet, but looks promising. http://bgr.com/2014/08/04/windows-9-free-update/ http://www.techradar.com/au/news/software/operating-systems/microsoft-to-give-away-windows-9-for-free-to-vista-xp-users--1260160 However don't go betting on free windows 9 if you buy windows 8, otherwise microsoft will make nothing from upgrades... http://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2014/04/07/fancy-a-free-upgrade-from-xp-to-windows-8-1-heres-how/
  13. High, after a reboot, icons are normal. this is so strange! apologies for my late reply, i'm going on Australia time here
  14. I have a g502. I've noticed that sometimes when switching from application to application, the default mouse button hotkeys will apply to the application, even though i have a specific setup for that application. This is particularly annoying, because the button next to left click is bound to Alt+F4 (read close ) so for example when i'm in google chrome or battlefield 4 (which have their own setups) it will close the application!
  15. Windows 8.1 isn't buggy at all, its got nothing to do with win 8.1
  16. You idiot... Its clearly D drive, he says right after " Drive" as for the OPs question, i don't know, but plenty of other people will.
  17. Beware that these links may not be unlimted, you might find one with a 2 year license, 5 year or no limit at all, you never know. Speaking of windows, check out this thread, which highlights something thats a little weird with windows... http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/207997-x-icons-on-all-desktop-shortcuts/
  18. Hi there, this is a pretty minor thing, but i'd still like to know what's going on. So this is what my desktop looks like. It happened two days ago, where it showed a sync icon (similar to the OneDrive sync icon) then it showed a green tick, then the Xs appeared. I ran Windows Defender and Malwarebytes - nothing there. Its happened again today and looks like this Only shortcuts show the X (My Computer seems like a shortcut to me, but it doesn't have an X) and i put the Unigine link there because its not a shortcut, its a physical text file. I've installed Malwarebytes and Startisback recently. Ok. So i tried something. I put a shortcut of a OneDrive document to the desktop, and it showed the sync icon on the desktop, but when i made the shortcut in File explorer, it just shows the normal shortcut icon. and now they've all changed: #1 shows a document in file explorer looking normal. #2 shows the change. Doesn't seem like a serious problem, but i don't know what it is. thanks in advance!!
  19. You should test mantle, but i can't see it working for you. It works for me because i have an fx-6300 and a r9 280x. The CPU is a bottleneck. You have an 8320 and a 270x. No bottleneck there.
  20. Microsoft automated the process of core unparking in windows 8. Win7 doesn't have that functionality, so in win7 you have to do it yourself.
  21. Ok that was weird... I just tested BF4. 70-80 fps on all maps at ultra without AA or AMbient Oclusion. with mantle and direct x. Max of 60c on the PMBus VR
  22. I've got a Gigabyte GA-970-D3P with an R9 280x and FX-6300. The 4+1 phase vrm is throttling my system in bf4 (see these for more info: http://www.overclock.net/t/1048912/official-gigabyte-ga-990xa-970a-series-owners-club-help-thread-fx-8350-support-added/2820#post_22762575. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/203736-gvr-thinks-drivers-are-up-to-date-i-dont/page-3#entry2774978.)
