  1. Well according to Intel it will: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000006050/boards-and-kits/desktop-boards.html?productId=50101&localeCode=us_en They named very specific chipsets that don't work with 3rd gen 1155 in the article above. That article by the way is for your specific motherboard. But just to be on the safe side, your motherboard's processor compatibility table from Intel themselves: https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/boardsandkits/desktop-boards/DH67CL.pdf
  2. Check out the videos of Bryan over a Tech Yes City. He frequently features cheap Xeon upgrades for X58 systems: https://www.google.com/search?q=x58+xeon+tech+yes+city&source=lnms&tbm=vid&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiZ85qklNXfAhWP-2EKHYg0AgAQ_AUIDygC&biw=1454&bih=867 He makes head to head comparisons of his x58 builds with newer stuff. Also just curious...why the dislike for AMD builds?
  3. @OP: Looks like a bog standard ATX case. Should be fine. I have a similar case and the IO shield can actually be removed so you can put in the one that came with your motherboard.
  4. Build from scratch IMHO. This HP is one of those with a proprietary motherboard which means if PSU or motherboard dies out you'll have a hard time getting replacements. If you're want a pre-built I'd personally go with an Acer or some of the dell optiplex models that you use the standard ATX form factor.
  5. Didn't the Hardware Canucks video prove that a i7-2600K did indeed bottleneck a 1080 Ti? Or is there really that much of a different between a 3rd gen and 2nd gen i7? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dHCQOt5Nns
  6. Can relate. Navigation drills help, but some times you just have to treat them like someone who's still in grade school. In my case, my go to line for such an issue: The URL or Address is that spot in Chrome/Firefox/IE where you type the web page or website you want to visit or go to. You would usually type www first in that spot of Chrome/Firefox/IE.
  7. AMD processors run hotter than Intel processors and thus are no good. This was in the Athlon XP to about the C2D days and even persists today. Heard this a lot from non-techie folks who ask me for help in building them a computer and when I bring up AMD, they automatically say: Don't they run hot? ME: .............
  8. The video below may still be relevant for you in making a decision. It's the Hardware Canucks review with performance numbers on going from an i7-2600k to an i7-8700k while while using a 1080ti on both.
  9. 1) SSD 2) Used RAM. You can find cheap 16GB DDR3 for cheap nowadays and you don't need the fancy stuff since this board does not OC. 2) Used i7. If you can find them for a cheap price. Also i you want to stick to this 1155 build, you might want to watch a review by Hardware Canucks on pairing an 1155 setup with a 1080 ti and then compared to an i7-8700K setup with the same video card. That should give you some idea on performance benfits on certain upgrades you plan for this rig. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dHCQOt5Nns
  10. An OC motherboard and memory is a must if you're looking to improve performance.
  11. Login with a Microsoft Account on that PC and the Windows 10 becomes a digital license attached to your Microsoft Account. Once that's done you can re-install Windows 10 (get the latest ISO by the way from MS) on the SSD, login with the Microsoft Account and then it activates with no problems. How to sign in to a Microsoft Account in Windows 10: https://support.microsoft.com/en-ph/help/4028195/microsoft-account-how-to-sign-in Activation FAQ for Windows 10: https://support.microsoft.com/en-ph/help/20530/windows-10-reactivating-after-hardware-change
  12. So you need the ISO file for Windows 7, more or less? But the official ISO download page (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7) won't let you download the ISO? If you have a buddy who has a retail license for Windows 7 you can ask him to input his product key on the MS ISO site and share with you the download link. I think it expires in 24 hours. You could also try torrents (risky) or third party sites that host the ISO files. One of those third-party sites that provided these ISO during the 2009 launch of Windows 7 was this one: http://techpp.com/2018/04/16/windows-7-iso-official-direct-download-links/
  13. He means a Microsoft Account: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/55398-link-microsoft-account-windows-10-digital-license.html
  14. Have you tested that card with another PC and confirm that it works? If it works in another PC then I suspect that the PCIE slot in your Dell might not be able to provide enough juice/power to the graphics card. Or if card does not work in another PC, it could be a DOA card. Also without the card installed, the device just works fine?
  15. 3770 should only be considered if you can get it real cheap. As in dirt cheap or for free from a dead system.
  16. Why the cooler? Especially when your board does not support overclocking being as it's a 310 chipset. You could just go with the stock cooler included. Also how about going for a used video card of the 1060 or 1050 lines. Maybe you have local listing selling them for cheap on your end.
  17. Edit your first post and put this there. That should avoid people asking where your current PC specs are. By the way, this seems to be quite a solid build for gaming so why do you need to upgrade? Any particular game giving you trouble when playing it? Or do you just want to scratch the upgrade itch? I'd save that $200 IMHO.
  18. Hardware Canucks did a review a year or so ago with a 1080 Ti first on an i7-2600K system and then moving up to an i7-8700K system. That should give you some idea on gaming performance. Although they mostly tested new-ish games. And even a 1070 paired with those two processors.
  19. https://support.microsoft.com/en-ph/help/4456067/windows-10-switch-out-of-s-mode "Windows 10 in S mode is designed for security and performance, exclusively running apps from the Microsoft Store. If you want to install an app that isn't available in the Microsoft Store, you'll need to switch out of S mode. Switching out of S mode is one-way. If you make the switch, you won't be able to go back to Windows 10 in S mode. There's no charge to switch out of S mode." Hope that helps. Highlighted the important parts. Basically no need to buy another copy of Windows 10.
  20. 100% for me. Just tried it with a Windows 7 Professional OEM key and the latest 1809 ISO. Works fine. Just testing the waters though. I'm still in Windows 7 in this day and age.
  21. My personal experience is that a processor can survive almost anything thanks to the built-in protection present in motherboards. But there's still a chance it can be killed along with the motherboard.
  22. The site only works with the product keys of retail versions of Windows i.e. those not pre-installed with a computer a.k.a. OEM versions. If you have a friend who has a legit Windows 7 key you can borrow his key and you get the download link from that web site. It does not matter if he has a lower edition of the Windows 7 because the ISO you get is a universal installer. You just have to modify it a bit to offer the other editions of Windows 7.
  23. You should also check out this dude from down under who does a lot of used parts deals. You may learn a thing or two from his videos I guess especially if you're on budget and from Australia. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=used+parts+hunt+tech+yes+city
  24. Looking good! Too bad no matching color for the optical drives. It would have complimented it's sleeper build look.
