  1. If you're going to upgrade it in the future especially with that B450 board, why would the thermal paste vs. soldered argument matter? Also IIRC the whole thermal paste vs. soldered argument was only relevant if you were overlocking. That's weird pricing on the RAM. Shouldn't it be cheaper since it's a smaller capacity stick? Although now that you mention it, dual channel might not be of much use for office work.
  2. Your 1050Ti is above the minimum requirements of DW9 (https://store.steampowered.com/app/730310/DYNASTY_WARRIORS_9/), DMC5 (https://store.steampowered.com/app/601150/Devil_May_Cry_5/), Batman: The Enemy Within - The Telltale Series (https://store.steampowered.com/app/675260/Batman_The_Enemy_Within__The_Telltale_Series/) so what other games are you playing that would warrant a GPU upgrade? Seems like upgrading from a 1050Ti to a higher card is just for the sake of upgrading IMHO.
  3. If it's just an Office PC why not go with a Ryzen 2200G or 2400G or even an Athlon APU (200-series) combo-ed with an A320-based mobo? Seems overkill to go with latest gen Ryzen and a B450 board. Also make the RAM 2x4GB to make use of dual-channel.
  4. Not to mention that he's not even using a K processor. IMHO paying for overclocking features that you can't use seems like a waste of $$$.
  5. It could also be a BIOS update is needed in order for the Corsair sticks to work.
  6. Yes. Install Windows 10 and use your Windows 7 product key when asked for one. Still works as of build 1809 of Windows 10. Basically the Windows 10 installer will accept a Windows 8.1 or 7 key for activation.
  7. Purely for gaming? What are you using this machine for? Why the two different brands of RAM?
  8. New PSU. Preferably the brands recommended by people here in LTT.
  9. How about you post your full specs? It might be something else causing this. Also make and model of the current monitor? Upgrading the monitor does not usually result in huge performance improvements on games.

PSU died on me after little over a year. Corsai…

Died from a power surge or just died of old age?
  11. The case you want to re-use now seems ok to re-use IMHO. No pictures of the interior though that I could find from google. But judging from the uTAX motherboard it uses, there should be no problem re-using the case. If you can open the side panel and take pictures of the side and rear of the case so that folks here can chime in if it's okay or not.
  12. Are you reusing any components from your FX rig? Like the hard drive/s and case or even the PSU? Maybe that could shave off some $$ when upgrading.
  13. Get a cheap and used i7 or Xeon. Get another brand of PSU if you can. FSP, Silverstone, Corsair, etc., etc.
  14. For word processing and browsing that Dell is more than enough. You might want consider adding a HDD for storage though seeing that it only has a 128GB SSD.
  15. If you have a spare or unused Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 key, you can save yourself tat $99 for Windows 10. As of Windows 10 Build 1809, you can still use a Windows 7 or 8.1 key to activate Windows 10.
  16. Edit your first post and put this information there. So you won't get the occasion poster asking for more details.
  17. Call or chat with a Microsoft technician. They do have a tool that's capable of identifying a product key for you. Just make sure to describe in detail what you're trying to do.
  18. Yes. Tried it with the 1809 Update on a clean install recently and it accepted the Dell OEM Windows 7 key on the site of the Dell computer.
  19. Too good to be true IMHO. It probably is volume licensing or MSDN keys which if you call MS for help in the future they'll probably tell you to take a hike.
  20. If you have unused Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 keys the Windows 10 1809 installer will still activate using those keys. Have tested it personally with a Dell Windows 7 OEM key on the side of an Optiplex.
  21. This should be useful: https://support.microsoft.com/en-ph/help/12435/windows-10-upgrade-faq
  22. Edit your first post and put this details there. Otherwise no one's gonna help you.
  23. Get SSDs for you current rigs. I have several computers here in the office running Office 2016 and Windows 10. Specifically on Dell Optiplex 3010s (i3-3240 + 2x4GB RAM + 250GB SATA HDD) and they're a bit clunky with browsing and using Office 2016. IMHO an SSD upgrade should give it a boost in performance.
  24. Of the bunch the HP Pro 3500 (https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03364089) is the fastest of the bunch. You can't use parts though from the other two because it uses an socket 775 processors and thus older memory. Maybe the Nvidia video card but don't expect a lot from it.
  25. That's quite a deal. The used Dell Optiplex with an i5 or i7 of the 1155 variety here in my country sell for about $180 tor higher and that's without a video card plus only 4GB of RAM. It gets cheaper if you buy in bulk. lol OR if comes with a Pentium, Celeron or i3 processor. SMH
