@LinusTech I am a long term watcher! Joined the clan of LTT viewers when you guys had moved into the Langley house (sorry if I got the name wrong but the one with the videos in the Kitchen ), but I strongly believe that this the moment you as owner (not as the ex-CEO) need to establish that LMG has been always been a "for" the tech community channel which I know you guys to be! The sheer transparency I see in WAN every weekend should be used here to reiterate the steps being taken to address the issues that were raised (irrespective of if they exaggerated or not) in the GN video. It takes a very long time to establish trust but sometimes a shred of doubt can completely change the way the videos are evaluated from now on! The mistakes seen as simple goof ups till now will suddenly become incompetencies and every tiny element of the videos will be very heavily criticised. Although I am not a paying supporter (dollar to rupee conversion here in India is brutal) but this literally is the only channel I wait every night for the video to drop! And strongly believe that guys truly are a for the community company.

The point is, as others have pointed out, that the changes they're making hurts developers, moderators, and users. Use a popular 3rd party app? Good luck -- they're all basically shutting down due to upcoming API pricing changes. Use moderation tools? Good luck -- only those tools that hijack your current session (think Chrome extensions) are safe... for now. Develop a 3rd party client? Good luck -- pricing for API usage is worse than Twitter.

Not to even mention the whole Spez/Apollo situation where Steve quite literally lied about the dev (of Apollo) threatening Reddit in an extortion attempt. If you're really curious as to why this is happening, and what led to this situation, simply read the news -- there are no shortages of articles from most major tech outlets at least briefly covering this controversy.

What you're seeing here is an argument between well-meaning forum members and a few very childish members. It doesn't happen often, but when it does it won't turn out well. This community is pretty good aside from that.

Their API is going to block the usage of 3rd party apps and bots/moderation tools, so this will worsen the experience for many users.
The whole point of those API changes is to make reddit more profitable for a possible IPO. If they do something that makes them lose users, which will directly impact on their AD revenue, then the chances of a successful IPO decrease.
Much like any strike or protest, it does make it hard for some other users. If it didn't cause any impact, it wouldn't mean much.
The API changes also inconvenience many users, that's the point.
If nothing changes after those 48 hours, it does show that reddit doesn't care, and many users (specially mods) will leave the platform, making it so that the quality of many subreddits will decrease and more users will leave the platform.

There's also the issue about the radiation causing bit-flips.  You would have to have all the equipment effectively hardened against space...especially given that it's supposed to be for a backup having a bit flipped or corruption is out of the question but that means actively checking for random flips (which I'd imagine happens a lot more).  Even in the ISS if you close your eyes you would see the occasional flicker of light as the radiation goes through your eyelids and triggering the perception of light; I'd imagine the radiation on the moon would be more so.

I totally agree with your sentiment, if you needed it on the moon you would have to be planning for some pretty big disaster.  It's a good headliner, but practically it's worthless technology.

The way I also look at it, Falcon 9 costs $67 mill for commercial flights and carries 5,500kg to GTO...or $12,181/kg (This is GTO as well, so you would actually get less mass to the moon).  That's going to get expensive very quickly, especially considering one would have to have solar panels, and batteries to make sure it remains online.  For the price, it would be more worthwhile just renting out cabinet space in a datacenter at multiple points across the globe.

As an update/reminder, the old version of Hydravion on Roku, per recent changes on Roku's behalf, will expire in roughly 40 days. The OP has been updated with the current link to the release on the Roku channel store. It can also be found by searching said channel store for "Hydravion".

I was going to add a popup notifying users to the existing beta channel, but their dev portal won't let me publish the update for whatever reason. Will continue looking into it. 🙃

New update, 1.3.5, for AndroidTV is available via GitHub -- fixes an issue where, under specific circumstances, a value would be added to an ArrayList at index 1 when 0 did not yet exist, causing the channel to crash. Big thanks to Sherlock in the Discord for providing logs!

Still a work in progress, should I ever get the time, but it seems to work just fine in the simulator. To run it, you'll have to sideload the app, though, as I have no paid developer license. Feel free to submit any issues over on the github page:

I was in the same boat - bricked Galaxy Watch 4 after update.  I called their 800 number, described the issue to a rep who, after talking to their supervisor, immediately offered a free out of warranty repair.   Shipped it in three days ago and today early on the status changed to waiting for part.  However, this afternoon I got a message that the repaired watch shipped UPS next day this afternoon.
Same outcome for all of the above:
    Solution:
    REPLACED PBA

I'd recommend calling their 800 support line if you're in the U.S.; they seem to know what is happening to these watches now.

Just thought I'd post this here for some increased visibility.

After update GVI3, it appears that some Galaxy Watch4's have been bricking (and such has continued even with their latest update -- GVK4). General consensus is that the older the device, the more likely it is to brick [1][2].
     [5]
     [4]

I, unfortunately, was affected. My device updated the morning of the Nov. 10th, was fine when I left for work. Sometime during the middle of the day, I noticed that my phone had a notification that my watch had disconnected, but didn't think much of it at that point because I was busy. Went to flick my wrist to turn my watch screen on, check the time, make sure I had alarms set for deadlines that we have throughout the day, and I noticed it was off and wouldn't turn on. After a bit more research, I learnt that the latest update(s) had been bricking devices and was unable to revive the device once I got home [3].

After sending the watch in for repairs, I was informed that I was going to be charged $128.82 for the PBA to be replaced. I contacted support via phone this morning and they were unable to tell me anything other than I'd have to pay the fee, or they would ship me back my $400 brick.

Tried reaching out to support via Twitter just a few minutes ago and they responded with a request to DM them, but their final response was essentially the same. Only other option is to visit an in-person repair shop, but I can't currently do that as my watch is still at their repair facility (which it was shipped to prior to them requesting even *more* money to fix an issue they caused):

Granted, my device is out of warranty, but how is it that they justify charging for repairs like this where the issue was caused by their faulty update? I need some sort of watch for work (alarms, time, steps taken, etc.), and the added benefit of having access to phone notifications is nice given that I can't always whip my phone out. At this point, though, I'm absolutely disgusted that I've essentially spent over $400 USD on a device that, only one year later, is a paperweight.

bmlzootown reacted to IPD in Unlocking ingame items for free - is it piracy for you or not?
Downloading AND distributing.  There's no "or".  That's the semantic difference here.  I get that a lot of you would fail etymology and probably out of law school--but there's a fundamental necessity for both to be present--in order to qualify as piracy.

Without providing stolen content to others--and/or profiting thereof--the act is simply theft, NOT PIRACY.  Still a crime.  Still punishable in a court of law.  But NOT PIRACY.

This isn't about "Being a wise guy".  Words mean things in a court of law.  Laypeople trying to conflate them all for the sake of expedience (at best) or lack of understanding (at worst)--doesn't actually change the legal definition of these terms--despite whatever desire there is to do so.

It's not much different than when people go around throwing wild accusations of "War Criminal" at everyone they don't like--without understanding either the Hague Conventions, the Geneva Conventions, LOAC, etc.

    P.S.
I would not take anything the MPAA or RIAA says as authoritative or legally true.  Their bombast is about draconian control--and they use very broad strokes to paint everyone who doesn't color inside the lines of their antiquated business models as some form of criminal.

Microtransaction in a single player game shouldn't even be a thing in the first place. They are nickle and dime everything these days. Can't even have cheat codes anymore, it's all about paying money to skip now.
It's technically piracy, since they are "selling" it and you are getting it for free... But I personally wouldn't condemn anyone for doing so in a SINGLEPLAYER game they paid for. Microtransactions are a plague.

I get where you're coming from, as the final package that's uploaded to the Roku store can't be decompiled on the end-user's side, thus you never know 100% for sure what's in the final code. That said, nothing phone's home on my end, and the app itself doesn't save any user data other than cookies -- there was a short period where Cloudflare was causing issues and users had to manually grab the CF token from the FP site itself and send it to their device (via a custom-written REST API on my server that made it easier for users to copy/paste the token rather than manually having to type it in via remote/phone), but that was phased out shortly after once another solution was found.
