  1. Informative
NULLYUKI reacted to Azariel-chan in The Starfield vkd3d Performance Patch is underwhelming
First of all, yes, its underwhelming.
The fix itself doesnt give you much itself.

Now before i preset my findings, i will enlighten you on what i did and on what Hardware i tested.
I tested on New Atlantis near the main Hall thing with the High Preset and Motionblur off.
    Software wise ive got a:
    Latest Xanmod-edge-v3 Kernel
    mesa-devel (exact version in Screenshot)
    RADV from mesa-devel 23.3.0
Proton GE 8.14 (shows up as 8.13, dont ask why wth)
Now i compiled vkd3d-proton twice, one time with o3 and LTO on and one time without anything flag-wise. The Branch i used is called dgc-conditional-rendering
    Ive labed the Screenshots accordingly.
The rig i used to test consists of a
    - 5800x @ 4.4Ghz with 360 AIO
    -7900xt
    - 32GB 3600 RAM

The Game was run on a Samsung 970 Evo Plus with the NTFS file-system and the drive wasnt used to boot from while Linux was running on an USB SATA SSD conntected via USB 3.
Every Screenshot was taken after a 5 Minute waiting period, stopped with an Phone and countdown started after pressing "Load Game" in main Menu" for any possible Temperature Difference yady yada. Just that it wont be affected by randomness or any Services etc. Also the Computer was restarted after every Run. I tried to be as consistent with Room Temperature as i could be.
I will now talk about my Screenshots and go with the Settings first.

    Game Settings

Now we come to the first Screenshot.
This is the default 2.10 vkd3d-proton without anything done to it. So basically the one, you could download via Releases on Github.
It hovers somewhere between 61 and 58 FPS.

    Default vkd3d-proton

Now the spicy part begins. Now we come to the dgc branch build. This ones as default as you could build it yourself. It sat on a Stable 76-74 FPS throught he whole waiting period.

    DGC Branch default Build

Now ive wondered, what i could do to maybe make a difference.
So ive just played around with some flags and i can preset you my own build with LTO and O3 Flags enabled. If i can find the exact build-flags again, i will post them of course ^-^
It hovered between 76 and 78 FPS and 78 was hit rarely. Mostly it stood on 77 FPS.

I hope this summs it up a bit and people dont think of it as the holy grail of Performance, because it isnt. Ive seen some insane claims of Gains from this and wanted to double check it all.
Thanks for sticking with me in this Thread and have a nice day

    Small edit:
This was now just deleted from PCMR Reddit with no apparent reason, while i was hated in the Comments for using Linux.
    Hope y'all are betterr qwq
  2. Agree
NULLYUKI got a reaction from Red :) in 10 STEAM Features I LOVE (and one I hate)
All the new Steam interface updates are nice and all, but there are certain things which I miss and hate.
I miss the older interface without useless animation and I hate how they now broke the ability to add custom Steam skins.
Valve should really consider making it possible again to use the old Steam interface and use custom Steam skins.
