  1. So i'm looking for a program that i can install that will just block usage of stuff like Mozilla and other things after a certain amount of usage. Because i'm trying to cut back on distractions well i study and work, and I want to give this route a go. But i don't know whats good or safe to use. Or if there is even a way i can just do it through windows 10 for free. Also if you now any apps that do the same, that would be a helpful share as well.
  2. Debian I’ll look into since right now I was looking at mint do to its ease of use.
  3. Which one would you recommend for some one who isn’t a programmer. Ubuntu I know is the most popular, and mint is I think second place in popularity. But it seems manjaro is getting popular. Though I don’t need something complex, just it runs well and is easy to use.
  4. Have my last pc which I’m turning into a home media box server thing, and it’s just running the free windows 10 update from a year ago or whenever that was. But I’m wondering if I should switch it to Linux or just keep it on windows. Because it’s not going to be used for much beyond storing stuff, playing shows, and running a TS or mumble server. But might change things down the road. Anyways do you guys think it’s worth changing it, or would it just be best to keep it as is?
  5. i say multiple but it's more like a just the ceiling and 1 wall or just 2 walls. Which i imagine isn't that bad, since a cheap bluetooth earbuds can pull that off. Also I just tested someone elses wireless mouse within the same distance i'm planning for and it worked.
  6. So I want to be able to make my old computer just sit in my room or a room and pretty much be my home media box. But one thing I can't do is have to connect it to everything through cables. So i'm wondering if anyone have some good but affordable recommendations on wireless display connectors. Because the ability to just plug it into my tv or second monitor would be perfect. Now the currently it's seems like i'm best off with the J-tech system but it's expensive. Now granted all of these set ups are expensive, but the cheaper ones like the diamond wireless i'm just unsure about since this is stuff I never gave a look until now. And i don't need anything fancy either, just something can connect reliably up to 60 feet and transmit standard film and tv frame rates which are around 24 fps. Hence why the J-tech one i'm like is great but i don't need something that good, thus i'm hoping someone might lead me to something less costly but still usable. *edit: Decided to go with the j-tech system, because it seems to be just the most reliably and likely to work as advertised. Well either way will find out, and if it's not good can always return.
  7. Plan to turn my old pc into a wireless media center system, and getting a lot pretty much figured out. But wireless keyboards and mice i haven't played around with for some time. So i'm not sure what would work well with what i'm planning. Because i just need a keyboard and mouse or a combo device that can stay connect through a few walls and be able to stay connected over atleast 30 feet. None of which seems that demanding. But anyways right now the keyboard i'm looking at is the logitech k400 which might not be the best, but i just need usable, cheap, and easy to move and store. So just wana make sure this is a good choice, so if anyone has a better option please let me know. After all there might be something better that i missed.
  8. So I have my former pc which i want to change up a bit to become a smaller pc that would become my home media system and serve as a 24/7 pc so it can run a few things on the side as well. It's using an Intel i5-4690k which fits a 1150 socket intel boards. And I currently have a normal ATX board from MSI but i want to change it into into a smaller sized board, like micro atx for example. But not spend more than 100 us dollars, and none really come off as bad nor do any come off that great. So I was hoping someone might be able to help point out something good to me, since i'm unsure. But i do wonder if it would it be better to just upgrade the case which is phantek case by simple giving it a few more fans, or would a new case just be smarter here. I ask because that'd save me some cash depending on what comes of the second question. The second thing i'm wondering on is would there be a way to make the system pretty much all wireless, thus i could stick it somewhere and just connect it stuff. Because wireless keyboard, mouse and such not a problem. But wireless display connectors I know little about, nor does a quick search seem to tell me they are going to be cheap. I also don't know how good they actaully are, but the idea I do like. Since that will make it really easy to connect it to whatever i wana watch stuff on. Now some extra stuff, i already have ram and pretty much everything but a graphic card for it (took it out an using it in current system). So i plan to get a cheap MSI GT 710 because that's good enough and i doubt would struggle with anything in regards to what i have planned. Wireless card i feel i don't have to over think, since i feel most will do just fine. Though i do wonder since everything i'm using is from late 2015, and has been constantly used (but not overcloaked or heavily worn) since than. Can i still expect a good amount of life from everything, since nothing will be heavily used even though always one? Or should i just sell it all off and well just go with new parts?
  9. ya looking at the snow, noticed it's just the prime with another name. Took it at a different model. So ya currently just looking at the whisper and the rmx, and I think I might for the whisper. The flat cables are noted as a thing for some, but i'm not super picky on have cables perfectly managed. Plus i can always return it if need be. *ordered whisper, so i'll see how it goes. Though again, really surprised their isn't a data sheet on various pc parts that show things like decibel levels and such.
  10. ya i looked at the fanless and that was a common problem that gets noted. now i would got that route if I could install more fans around the psu. But right now i'm looking at the corsair rmx2018 and the maybe the seasonic snow silent (seems to be better suited for me) or the seasonic focus+ gold
  11. powering a gtx 960, ryzen 7 2700x, msi x470 gaming pro motherboard, normal disk drive, m2 ssd, two 16gb sticks of ram, and 5 fans all 120mm or larger. But I might upgrade the gpu in the future, and add more fans. Hence the large psu than needed. Also nothing over clock, since i see no reason in doing so.
  12. So i built and set up my new computer but one thing that is bugging me is the EVGA GQ 850 watt psu I have. Which is louder than I expected (like i can hear it when my head phones are on and i'm watching a show), because all the fans i have on my system aren't that bad and don't really stand out within the cooler master haf xb evo case i'm using. Now granted the thing is sitting on my desk within like 2 feet of me, though might swing it around to the other side so my monitor is between it and me also has a bit more distance. But considering the only part that really is making a note worthy fan noise is the psu, I have to wonder is there a better option? Also note I only have a budget of 100 to 140, which I have a feeling should cover nearly anything. Also side note, really surprised I could find a data sheet on psu's and their decibel levels. I would have thought there would be such a thing for pc stuff.
  13. So external is best option in this case, that's good to have that figured out. Also any good recommendations in regards to those, since the ones that catch my eye are the externals western digital and toshiba. since all there stuff seems pretty good.
  14. I'm very lost here on what is the best option for cheap data storage. Because I just need an HDD to store finished works, that wont be regularly accessed. Anyways i've been looking at the external and internal hdds, and frankly don't see much of a difference between the two options. Except for how the external seems easier to work with. And speed doesn't matter much here, since this is only for storing compressed videos and project folders. And speed difference between both options isn't different or much different at all. So it's just all about how much it can hold and will it keep the data safe over time. And both internal and external seem equal on topic. So any imput would be much appreciated. Also this is only a concern since my current external is like 8 years old (filled and emptied numerous times), and my current internal hdd is about 3 years old (but is my secondary drive and not heavily used). So i figure it would be best to have something fresh, if I want something to store data.
  15. So it's safe to say for under 1400 usd (total of all stuff, not all was listed), i've got a very solid build. And probably wont be able to clip it down more without facing noticeable performance loss. That's good to know, though was hoping i could shave off a bit more.
