TheToaster's Achievements

  1. It depends on how you want to use that 240Hz. If you're playing an esports game like CSGO really competitively then you might want those extra frames, but if you're just looking to get some extra FPS in triple A games then 144Hz is plenty. It also depends on what kind of build you're using to push those frames. If you can't get a good chunk more than 144 FPS out of your computer in the games you want to play, then there's no reason to get it.
  2. The RX580 paired with a Ryzen 2600 should still be able to hit 1080p 60 FPS in newer titles. You might need to crank the detail down from ultra or whatever the highest setting is on the most demanding titles, but that's it. As far as upgrade paths for 500 bucks, plopping something like a 1660 Super along with a Ryzen 3600 into that build could get you more performance.
  3. Is there a reason you want Intel right now? Ryzen 5000 chips beat the best Intel has to offer right now across the board.
  4. Hey y'all, looking for some opinions and/or options. I have a general-use laptop in my HP Elitebook 840 G3 that includes an i7-6600U, 8GB of DDR4 (haven't checked if it's 1 stick or 2), and a 256GB SSD. It has a touchscreen (doesn't work too well imo), but isn't compatible with Windows Hello nor does it have a fingerprint reader. I got it as a gift about 2.5 years ago so the battery life isn't too great. Regardless, it serves me pretty well as my daily driver. I use my computer a lot, with the main uses being a ton of web surfing, video watching, and programming. I don't really use it to game since I have a desktop. It never necessarily chugs on me, but it can slow down a little bit if I really push those 8 gigs of RAM. Point being, the job gets done. So, my dilemma is this: I have a bit of extra money to possibly use to get a new laptop. If I did, I could wipe this one and give it to my Mom. It would be a bit overkill for what she does, but she hasn't had a decent working laptop in a long while and it would give her some technological flexibility. The only issue is that I'd rather not give away this laptop unless I can get myself something that would be worth it. I'm a part-time student right now, so if I could find a 2-in-1 that was in my price range and had similar power to what I've currently got, I'd consider that a win. I'd love to be able to take notes tablet style. With all of that in mind, that's where my question comes in: would it be possible and worth it to upgrade? If I had a price range of around 500-800 USD to make it happen, are there good options that exist? I'd appreciate any insight. It's been something I've been thinking about a lot, but I figured instead of going crazy about it, I'd get some second opinions, haha.
