  1. hey every one, i got a small problem with a dual boot to explain it easy i just can not get ubuntu and windows to work on a single drive now lets explain what i all dit , so you can see what went wrong first of all , i use a M.2 NVME drive ( crusial 1TB , the P1 ) i use a usb stick with E2B (Easy To Boot, just like rufus only better ) that let me choose a iso that is located on the usb, it use a grub boot loader and some other software to make a easy boot usb drive so i first install windows 10 on the fresh disk i splitted up the disk in 2 parts , each 500Gb ( 2 parts in total) windows for some reason feels that it need to take the second partition as boot loader ... every time after windows is installed , then i update windows and after a couple reboots then i start over with ubuntu ( zorin ) now the problem starts it says that it found a windows installation and want to install it next to it ... but it only finds the 500gb part of windows if i install it on there , then the second partition is lost ... as i wanted to install it on there after successful install , only windows boot up .. so final result is only 1 partition is in use and i lost 50% of my capacity and linux does not even boot up (only windows loader ) after using the boot loader command in linux i got it partial working , but the boot loader program in windows messed up the windows boot ... so restart and just use the full drive then ? no partitions made start windows , clean the drives , select the non allocated space and windows create again a own boot partition ( boot loader ) now when i want to install linux , i got again the option to install it next to windows ... except that it does not find any windows installations except for the usb disk ... that contains only the windows iso ... manual assigning the partitions fot the linux install breaks my windows install i tried this in both uefi mode and legacy mode so far i can not get it working maybe i should start with linux first and put windows over it ?? or is windows 10 that much changed from windows 7 or xp so dual boot does not work that nice anymore as in the old days ? does any one got a solution how i can get this dual boot work on 2 separate partitions and keep 50% of the drive for each operating system ? Thank you Greets From Powerchaos ps: for the users who want to know what specs this pc has ( in case you think that stuff is wrong ? ) I3-7100 Asus Prime B-250 Pro ( Bios 1205) Crusial P1 (M.2)
  2. What about nold.io ? it use Bluetooth to connect and use cloud and API Also on iPhone you can open the door when you get in range ( maybe later also on Android ? ) But it is a bit more expensive then 30$ and it is more to share acces then to just open your garage xd but atleast it can make all kind of stuff “smart” greets from powerchaos
  3. Based On the info I found should 370 and 390 work as nothing is changed On the chipset is a buis update not needed the motherboards only got Some extra stuff ( like WiFi ) and as a result they increased the number also the 9th gen is just the 8th gen but without the hypertreathing atleast If my info is correct greets from PowerChaos
  4. so far my information goes should it support the 9th gen cpu atleast the 370 serie , older serie's of the 300 serie could need a bios update here is more ifnormation betwean the difference of the motherboards https://www.pcworld.com/article/3268063/components-processors/intel-motherboard-z370-vs-h370-vs-b360-vs-h310-8th-gen-cpu.html some quotes Greets from PowerChaos
  5. well if you do not mind coding a bit of stuff then you could use the following OS http://www.zentyal.org/server/#server-features i dit this before (kinda ) on XenServer i installed 1 public VPS , created a few networks on it and used the public vps to forward to internal ip's so i got 5 differend vps servers running , a VPN to acces local network and 5 differend websites on those 5 vps servers they where all linked with that single vps and apache proxy based on dns, it port forwarded it to the right ip adress ofcourse they coulnd have the same ports , so the ports are differend but because of the proxy of apache they still worked on port 80 as it was getting forwarded based on dns , so port 80 was incoming port , and it went to a other higher port over the lan https://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.4/mod/mod_proxy.html anyway that OS also contains a firewall and a web interface to configure some stuff like the firewall and port forwading ( exept for the apache part ofcourse ) it take some time to get it working , but it does a great job and you only got 1 public ip adress as those others are just LAN ip's Greets From PowerChaos
  6. @Alex Atkin UK i just got my new ac9260 card and got it installed (for a few hours now ) now it seems that it syncs better sometimes , some kind of a buffering i guess ? it does a better job with BT5.0 then BT 4.2 on the AC8260 i was getting a delay all the time, on the AC9260 i get a delay when i first sync the headset , but after a min or so then the delay is gone for the wifi , it is also more stable for the AC9260 at current moment ( link rate of 104mbps instead 26.4 mbps ) now i wonder about the Killer AC 1550 , it is based on the same intel chip ( AC 9260 ) but they claim to be better and contains beamforming (and more stuff that intel does not have ) as i can not find that card , i can sadly enough not test this out even this card took me 2 weeks to get shipped to me and it was already hard to find Greets From PowerChaos
  7. @Syntaxvgm thanks for trying , but it still isnt the right song Greets From PowerChaos
  8. little bump as no one provided a reply yet
  9. hey all and specially @LinusTech i am looking for the song that linus use in this video in case it does not paste properly , it starts from 7:26 its only for 15 seconds , but i can not find the song back also see the attached mp3 for the song Greets from PowerChaos unknown_song.mp3
  10. instead of rufus use Easy2boot ( same creator , differend program and always works , even the 128gb Sandisk should work ) you only need a iso cd , convert it to a container ( E2B ) and run from the container ( in case the iso does not work directly ) but keep in mind , running windows from usb is still slow (depending on the usb stick , it stays slower then a SSD or even a hard drive ) for example my Emtec usb runs at 45 MB, my laptop hd (5200 rpm ) connected with a sata connector over usb 3 works at 110 MB but also those things depends on other things just like all usb drivers and SSD disks Greets From PowerChaos
  11. windows always got a power plan even if it is a desktop ... but that is not the problem ( in my case it was ... as the cpu throttle went down to 0.8ghz in game instead 3.9ghz ... intel ) if you think it is a app then check any app that can generate a overlay ( msi afterburner ... nvidea shadowplay .. nvidea settings ...) also any app that can record screen ( OB .. Fraps ... Discord ??.. ) .. as that is also called a overlay ^^ then for fallout and paladins , every game got his own frames a lot of factors can deside what frames you get in game , but as long it is above your refresh rate it does not mather my best example was with Vampyr , it was stable at 45 frames , but somehow it dropped down to 15 frames .. disabled a few settings in the bios ( powersave functions ) and enabled high power mode and then it ran back at 45 frames so thats something else you could check check your bios for powersave options ( S3 state ? S5 state ? Turbo boost ? HyperTreading ? Auto Undervolting ? ... ) not sure if amd also got those settings , as my last amd was a phantom II black ( AM3 sock or so ) that i got from a friend Greets From PowerChaos
  12. i play a lot of games got a GTX980TI and a 1080P 60hz monitor and i just hate it when i only get 60 frames in games ( not even talking about Justice league , as that one is capped at 30 frames ) why else would i need a nice graphic card and low frames ? there are some games that does not work well above 60 frames , but most games does and to speak against Vsync in some games i even get screen tearing with vsync on instead off ... look at FP shooters if you turn around quickly or to fast for the frames to follow then 60 frames is to low also if you got framedrops , above 60 frames they do not drop that many , with framecap they do drop below 60 frames ( as it does not pre render ? ) please note , this is just from own experiance , not calculating my other factors in it like a I3 and 5600 RPM HD anyway for the OP @MrEleven1181 keep it on if your screen start to tear ( like skipping frames ) keep it off if you do not have that problem all frames above 60 on a 60hz monitor will go to waste , but it still fills up the buffer as they still get generated but only not displayed same as i can put my screensize on 2K or even 4K and display it on a 1080P monitor (nvidea control panel ) it lowers my frames a lot , but it makes the game a bit smoother as it generate bigger images ( atleast if i play diablo 3 ) or in short , it does not harm to keep it on or off , as long it does not generate screen tearing and if you keep your frames at 60 ( 59 - 60 ) Greets From PowerChaos
  13. i connect to a hotspot there are differend locations it could possible connected i live at the second floor , under me they both got internet of the same provider , so one of those hotspots is what my adapter use also next to me they got the same provider , basicly i am surrounded by the same provider so my connection is jumping betwean 144.4 and 13.2 connection rate sometimes it connects and i can authenticate with AEP , other times it just does not connect or authenticate or provide a AIPA adress ( 169.x.x.x.) so my situation is just complicated with the AC68 i get a link rate of 1.3G or 450 Mbit but my speed never exeed 20mbps ( limit of the hotspot ) on other side , for beein a BT and wifi card used in a laptop is it a great card ( 8260 ) BT works perfect (latest drivers atleast ) and Wifi works also good ( after a bit of tweaking ), atleast for a laptop wifi and it cost the same to upgrade then the usb BT ( around 25€ ) it include a antenna that i can move ( only 2DB antenna's ) but i changed them already to my 8DB antenna's on the back (seems a bit more stable , now it get lowest at 56mbps link rate ) sidenote : Asus also got BeamForming , intel does not have that and compared to the 2 , i see a stable linkrate at my Asus , but not at the intell ^^ Greets from PowerChaos
  14. @Alex Atkin UK The wifi is not really better compared to the AC68 that i got in there but it is not bad eather ( exept i get a link rate of 26mbps and AES protocol is a bit broken sometimes) atleast compared to my Ralink and my AC68 so the chip it use is the intel dual link 8260 ( BT 4.2 ) not bad anyway for the sound it seems after updating the intel drivers that it is a bit better sometimes it is out of sync but then it is back in sync (seems like a buffer or so ? ) i also noticed that i can not use my mic and sound at the same time with this card with the BT usb ( BT 4.0 ) then i could use both , but then that lag problem ofcourse in windows i needed to disable the Hand Free set ( it create 2 links , one is Hand Free and other is just sound , hand free is also the mic ) to get it to work lagfree i just ordered the 9260, it got BT 5.0 and is newer i probaly will get it in a week or 2 , then i can test also if it works for me the best part is that i can upgrade it if needed , or replace it if needed for the same price as a usb stick and so far i am aware there are no BT usb's that support 5.0 (even 4.2 is hard to find ) here is a overview of the difference and the reason i get the 9260 to test https://ark.intel.com/compare/99445,86068 Greets From PowerChaos
  15. 35 celcius idle is good mine run about the same but it is a I7 7700K so they are a little to the hot side hopely it keeps it up , but i still think you need a new motherboard as soon as you can , as a broken connector is never a good thing (what else can it break ? maybe it can shortcut everything ? ) i got no idea about the lifespan of a AIO but 3.5 Years is already some time Greets From PowerChaos
