Thank you for your reply, but I do not like iOS (and this is coming from someone who uses a Mac Mini for their everyday computing). My wife has one and I don't care to use it for my needs.

    Thanks! I don't plan on upgrading from 1080p @ 60 quite a long time. Should I consider a 970?

With just gaming you will not need more than 8GB of ram. If you really want to know how much you need/use just open task manager and under the 'performance' tab check how much you actually use when gaming, browsing or under your normal load.

8gb is enough. 16 is more than enough. You don't need 16gb of ram

yes ... kind a ... actually the integrated battery management does some other tricks.
don't overthink it and just let it plugged in when you are at your desk and don't bother connecting it when on the go.

2 external monitors are easy. for 3 you either need a dock or a display that is daisychain-able  yes  many  nope. I am using a "Retina"-Display and a standard display at the same time.  nope. just completly drain the battery at least every 2-3 months.  Most Mac users I know almost never shut down their Macs - no problem at all ___________
I used a Macbook Pro as only PC for over 2 years, when I traveled a lot between to cities.
Most of the time with the lid closed and a apple bluetooth keyboard connected

we can't see the future. if you're willing to turn down settings a bit it may last you anywhere from 4 to 8 years, depending on what new gpus come out and how fast games get harder to run. Think of it this way: if a console can run it, your pc can run it significantly better. the rule is always the same, buy what you need right now and upgrade when you need to.

I don't think you need to upgrade at all if you aren't running 144Hz 1440p or 4k. 1080p is more than good enough for the 780, so I'd wait until you have bigger requirements from a higher res monitor or are struggling for fps. Pascal and fiji look like they're going to be some damn good architectures, so wait up for those is my opinion.

For 1080p 60hz, no, absolutely not. If you really aren't satisfied with the performance (although I don't see how that would be possible) it would be a much better idea to get a second 780 than ditch the one you have for a brand new 980ti. By the way, if you have a 780 your pc is already much more powerful than your macbook pro.

Thanks for your quick reply! Yeah, from what I have started researching, MSI and ASUS seem to be the go to lappies for many. I don't know about the RazerBlade. I know of it, but I don't know if you are paying for the name or if it is really that much better than its MSI and ASUS counterparts. I am going to check out the GS60 that you mentioned.

I just get a little paranoid about my gadgets. I just got a Surface Pro 3 and I want to stream games from my gaming rig to the SP3. I tried Steam In-Home Streaming, but some games, like Far Cry 4, do not have controller support. I hear that Limelight is the way to go.

I guess, if I really wanted to, I could return the SP3 and get a Shield Tablet, but I have read things about the cracked edges, wifi and Bluetooth issues.

Do you all know anything about Limelight on the PC?

johnnyTheMac got a reaction from Nup in New projector...need help, as I know nothing.
    Hello,

First off, I hope that I am posting this in the correct place. If not, I apologize in advance and I hope an admin will steer me in the right direction.

I am brand new to projectors, screens or anything that has to do with putting up a "theater". I put theater in quotation marks because really, I would like to be able to move the projector and the screen outdoors to watch movies and sporting events, both in the evening and during the day. I would like to game on it (PC and console), too. I will either like a portable screen, or I will have a separate one for indoor and outdoor. I am coming from a 65" HDTV 1080p, so I would like to projector to have a 1080p output resolution. I am guessing it would have to be really bright, as well.

I have been doing some research and there seems to be 2 different type of projectors, LED and bulbs. I would mind LED because of the long bulb life. My budget for everything is $1000, but I would like to stay below that, if I could.

I really have no idea what to do, or even what to look for. I would greatly appreciate any and all help. Thank you in advance for reading and offering all suggestions and advice.
