  1. Since I reinstalled windows(about a month ago)my PC has been freezing in a strange way. When the freeze happens everything(mouse, keyboard etc) except the video output freezes for about 10 to 15 seconds and then starts working again. When i check the task manager after the freeze i see that there is the windows error reporting process(werfault.exe). This happens every couple of days or even weeks(it happened today after about a week and a half of it not freezing). This doesn't really annoy me that much since it happens so infrequently and it didn't really get any worse from when it started, but maybe its a bigger problem that I don't yet know of. Specs: CPU: Ryzen 3 1200 without OC GPU: Gainward Gtx 1050ti Motherboard: Asrock AB350M Pro4 (Bios version: 4.90) PSU:Corsair CX450 (grey) RAM: 2x4gb 2400mhz G.Skill (which i reduced to the default in the bios, 2133 mhz) HDD: an old(5-6 year old) 500gb WD Green Two Arctic case fans OS: Windows 10 Pro x64 Version: 10.0.17134 Build 17134
  2. Specs CPU: Ryzen 3 1200 at stock speeds GPU: Gainward Gtx 1050ti Motherboard: Asrock AB350M Pro4(updated to bios 4.90) PSU:Corsair CX450 (grey) RAM: 2x4gb 2400mhz G.Skill(reduced to default, 2133mhz) HDD: an old 500gb WD Green (5-6 years old) Two Arctic case fans OS: Windows 10 Pro x64 Version: 10.0.17134 Build 17134 Problem My computer randomly freezes every few days for a few seconds even at very light load(simple internet browsing) and then unfreezes. It seems that only the usb devices are affected, since video output works perfectly(it happened to me in a game and everything except the screen froze, there was also no lag in the game while the freeze was happening). When the freeze happens one of two things happened: once the hdd simply shot up to 100% during the freeze and another time there was a windows error message in the task manager that brought HDD usage up to about 80-90%. The freezes started a few days after i reinstalled windows. Attempts at fixing it and diagnosis I disabled all the overclocks i have done before(for the cpu and ram), ran HDD diagnosis tests(no errors shown), disabled superfetch, windows search and some settings in advanced power options("Link state power management" and "turn off hard disk after"). Probable causes My theories are these: -The HDD is on its last leg: its a 5-6 year old WD Green hard drive that about a year ago started making weird screeching noises . Since no errors were shown in the WD diagnostics programs I believe it could be a mechanical issue. -The motherboard is faulty: its an Asrock AB350M Pro4 which i heard has caused many issues to people, but their motherboards usually cause them hard freezes that require a restart, a thing i do not need to do. It could also be that all USB ports get simultaneously shorted causing every usb device to disconnect, i doubt this one though. -A driver issue: In the event viewer i noticed i got the event 28 error during the time of the last freeze(which also coincides with the windows error message in the task manager), which I read is related to driver issues. -Windows is corrupted: I read that many people had these short freezes on windows 10, and since the freezes happened only after reinstalling windows, its quite likely that i somehow corrupted it. Any ideas on what the problem could be?
  3. The computer finally froze again and looks like the HDD usage was jumping to 100% around the time the freeze happened. I guess it really was the hdd after all. Also, I noticed that video output doesn't actually freeze, only the usb devices.
  4. I put in the CPU really well(it took me half an hour just to get the courage) and I triple checked when I put it in, it really is fine(I also made sure to lock the CPU in with the latch on the motherboard. My CPU usage and temperatures are absolutely fine. Also, how often did your pc freeze and unfreeze? Mine freezes once every couple of days, but it hasn't frozen for like 3 days now(3 days of playing games, doing tests, etc), or maybe it froze when I left the computer, i don't really know.
  5. I will not try that out yet, maybe when the freezes become more frequent. I don't have any important data on the drive so I will just use it until it dies out. I'll update the post if anything new problems arise. Also, my computer still hasn't freezed yet since about 3 days ago(except the on demand freeze in the event viewer), maybe disabling superfetch, windows search or the overclock fixed the problem somehow, at least temporarily?
  6. I see. I noticed some weird stuff happening with my computer: 1.i cannot run sfc /scannow or dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth in a cmd run with administrator. 2. When i go into event viewer > windows logs > system and click and drag my mouse down in the blank space in the box where the information stuff is it freezes and I get a beeping sound coming from my headphones every time i move my mouse again. This causes my pc to soft freeze(pressing caps lock works) for some time and forces me to ctrl+alt+delete . Usually when it gets into the security options, the mouse starts moving again but after a good 10-20 seconds the computer freezes completely(caps lock does nothing) and unfreezes after 5-6 seconds(like the problem I mentioned in the post). Can all this be related to the freezes somehow? PS: other than the freeze caused by the event viewer, i didnt get any other freezes.
  7. Can an HDD cause a system freeze though? It isn't only the screen that freezes but all USB devices(to the point where pressing caps lock on the keyboard does nothing).
  8. About 2 weeks ago, after i reinstalled windows, the computer started to randomly freeze every few days and then resume a few seconds later. The freezes causes all usb devices to disconnect and freeze the monitor image and sound. This lasts for about 5-6 seconds and then everything goes back to normal. I haven't been able to determine a real reason for the freeze, the temperatures are normal and the components werent usually stressed when the freeze happened. My theory is that my HDD is starting to die out(About a year ago it started making crackling noises) and it's causing windows to freeze. Specs: CPU: Ryzen 3 1200 OC'd to 3,6 GHZ with stock cooler(removed OC for testing) GPU: Gainward Gtx 1050ti Motherboard: Asrock AB350M Pro4(updated to bios 4.90) PSU:Corsair CX450 (grey) RAM: 2x4gb 2400mhz G.Skill(reduced to default, 2133mhz) HDD: an old 500gb WB Green (5-6 years old) Two Arctic case fans OS: Windows 10 Pro x64 Version: 10.0.17134 Build 17134 I did an extended test of the hard drive using WD data lifeguard diagnostics and it passed it with no errors, Crystaldiskinfo also says it's good. I truly have no idea what the hell is wrong with the pc. I doubt that it's the motherboard since for other people it usually does a hard freeze requiring a restart, and I dont need to restart. PS: the computer didn't restart since yesterday morning, but it only freezes every couple of days so i don't really know what will happen.
