  1. I think you can fit plenty of modern gaming laptops within that weight category tbh. Just decide on what other specs you want in there.
  2. You have a budget of $1000 USD and you want to go for something with "1024x768" resolution, are you sure mate? Look for something that's 1080p minimum as that's the standard and you aren;t really going anywhere with anything below that. Not to forget you can get some decent 4k laptops in that price range these days...
  3. There are many laptops that you can fit into that budget, even some of the very best gaming laptops tbh, as you can find some of the most latest and decent ones within $1500 range. But are you open for a heavier machine or just want something small and portable?
  4. You want to look into Lenovo Legion Y520 or ASUS K501UW-AB78 Both are excellent for school usage as well as decent gaming. Because obviously when you want to pay $1000, you don;t want a laptop that doesn't allow you to game. Avoid Dell and HP tbh, as if they are good with one thing then usually lacking in another. But if you really want to go, Dell, then this might be a finer option Dell Inspiron i7559-5012GRY You can check more comparison and details for these here in this comparison review which I keep referring to myself. P.S: Just don't think fo going for Mac, its way too overpriced and doesn't really get you the right specs which you can get in that price range these days.
  5. Macbooks are not gaming laptops, they are mainly designed for productivity. Why don't you opt for a gaming laptop instead and you can fit a very decent one within your budget? If portability and build quality is your concern then you really need to look into Razer Blade Stealth. But from the options, I would go with the 16GB RAM upgrade because that makes more sense and will help me bring out more productivity while a CPU upgrade won't really help if that tiny machine is thermally throttling your performance.
  6. Tbh I would take a gaming laptop that suits my budget as gaming laptops are definitely the best you can have at any budget range. What you need is an accurate color representation though and I believe going for an IPS panel and preferably a 4k one would really help you with that, although its hard to make a blanket statement on the screens out there without having tested all of them. why don't you work your way from a comparison list of under $1000 laptops and narrow down your options from there and then see which screen suits you better? See if this helps you with that https://www.noflufftech.com/best-gaming-laptop-under-1000/ I would personally go with an Acer Helios 300 in that range though. But if you are strictly into a non gaming laptop then XPS 13/15 like suggested by Streetguru is the right choice I believe.
  7. Yes, it's correct you can't have everything in a single laptop, you'll have to make a compromise on something for sure, and thats really what you want to think about as to what is sacrificeable... If you check the review link that I have shared though, you'll find different options with almost the same specs, yet every one has something unique like some are with a 4k screen, and others with better audio or portability...
  8. 64bit OS on a 4GB RAM is kinda pointless tbh, though it's required to make full use of the 4GB RAM. Overclocking might not really help if you could add another few GB's of RAM that could've helped if you really wanted to keep going with it.
  9. I'll personally go with the two fans config, one is good but it could be noisy at the same time the risk of it going bad and being left with no cooling is not a good thing to think about. For the rest, I'll say run through a few comparison lists on google and you'll be able to pinpoint what exactly you're looking for...
  10. Predator Helios is definitely the right one to go for within that budget. I've seen every one recommending some Asus around that budget as well but honestly, I am not too fond of the build quality on previous gen Asus Laptops and a bit skeptical of the new gen until they prove themselves to be better. I've been looking for the same kind of config within a similar budget and found this to be the most helpful and updated comparison I could find so far while scrolling through Google, while others seem to be quite outdated. https://www.noflufftech.com/best-gaming-laptop-under-1500/ And it also recommended going for a Predator Helios but there are other options with nice distinctive features you might want to consider.
