Dataanti reacted to ThePointblank in CISA Issue Emergency Directive To All Federal Civilian Agencies To Power Down SolarWinds Orion Products Immediately Due to Hack
This is a pretty big and emergency directive coming from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), directing all federal civilian agencies to review their networks for indicators of compromise and disconnect or power down SolarWinds Orion products immediately due to a known exploit that is apparently being exploited by hackers. This after the US Treasury and the US NTIA were apparently breached by hackers. A foreign government is suspected and the National Security Council met Saturday to discuss the fallout.

    The directive from CISA:
    https://www.cisa.gov/news/2020/12/13/cisa-issues-emergency-directive-mitigate-compromise-solarwinds-orion-network
    Quotes

The Reuters news piece talking about the original hack:
    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-cyber-amazon-com-exclsuive/exclusive-u-s-treasury-breached-by-hackers-backed-by-foreign-government-sources-idUSKBN28N0PG

The IT services company, SolarWinds confirmed that they were the subject of a highly sophisticated hack:
    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-solarwinds-cyber/it-company-solarwinds-says-it-may-have-been-hit-in-highly-sophisticated-hack-idUSKBN28N0Y7

SolarWinds has a number of high profile contracts providing IT services, with their website indicating they provide IT services to 425 of the Fortune 500 companies, and various US government departments, such as NOAA, the Pentagon, State Department, the US Postal Service, Office of the President of the United States, and all five branches of the US Military.

For those not familiar with it, SolarWinds is a network management system (NMS), and is one of the more ubiquitous network management systems out there. These systems are usually used to monitor, control, and configure network devices and critical servers, and often have critical access to most (often all) systems on the network.

A NMS not only has the ability to monitor all systems on the network, but also maintain the availability of the more critical systems on the network, and as such, they have the ability to monitor and control services becoming unresponsive and restarting them, all before a network admin even becomes aware of an issue.

Fireeye, a IT cybersecurity company (and also one of the companies affected by the hack) had this article up on their site on the SolarWinds hack:
    https://www.fireeye.com/blog/threat-research/2020/12/evasive-attacker-leverages-solarwinds-supply-chain-compromises-with-sunburst-backdoor.html

Basically, what Fireeye is saying is that the malware slips in via a trojan that uses a modified version of the component of the Orion software framework that contains a backdoor that communicates via HTTP to third party servers. The malware then hides on the network, dormant for roughly two weeks then  it retrieves and executes commands, called “Jobs”, that include the ability to transfer files, execute files, profile the system, reboot the machine, and disable system services. It masquerades this activity as the Orion Improvement Program (OIP) protocol and stores reconnaissance results within legitimate plugin configuration files allowing it to blend in with legitimate SolarWinds activity. The backdoor uses multiple obfuscated blocklists to identify forensic and anti-virus tools running as processes, services, and drivers.

In all, this is a very big hack, affecting many companies and government agencies.

this is not a story about me but my cousin came out as gay a little while ago, and everyone in my family at first was confused cause we didn't know he was in the closet... it was fairly obvious... it kind of stole his brave courageous coming out moment X3

as for me, i guess i would be best described as pan. and in my experience there really is no need to come out because nobody really cares aside from the people who THINK people care. like i don't care if people know, people can ask if they want to know and i tell them, but why would i go out of my way to tell people who have no reason to know or care? its 2019 now and for the most part nobody really cares. And really i wish the LGBT community could move past this stage, at least in the western world where its fairly acceptable aside from some fringe right wing and left wing groups (yes i said left wing too, have you heard of a trans exclusionary feminist?) but nobody accepts them for the most part so we are equal

i dont really watch ben, i think politically i agree with him, but just something about the way he talks bugs me. i know thats petty but it can be tiring to listen too after a while.

i do like to watch Jordan Peterson, Dave Rubin, Joe Rogan podcast (he has some political and science ones that i like) But as for my day to day news sort of thing, i really enjoy watching Tim Pool, he was a journalist that worked for i believe VICE, and from what I understand very successful there. but ended up leaving because he went to the EU to try and prove the 'no go zones' where fake and ended up proving him self wrong, luckily he had principal and tried to report it as such but VICE wouldn't let him. and so he left, I think there where other reason as well but he has become a really decent solo journalist now.

I never resort to any of the big news companies unless im looking for live footage of an event or something, like new years or an election or something. I find local news stations are not nearly as bad as the big national ones. also i stay away from places like breitbart, buzzfeed, vox, the verge, and all those places. and gaming journalism.... wow.... dont get me started on those people, they are just oozing with corruption and bias.

And as for TyT.... they are preachy propaganda now they seemed to have taken a crazy turn during the election and started shilling hard. pretty much the only thing i can agree with them on is getting money out of politics and thats it.
i have watched some of their clips and their arguments against his points are very weak or just plain wrong or opinions.

one thing i will agree on with a lot of criticism that goes his way, is i believe he credits religion too much for the wests cultural, civil, and moral developments. im pretty sure it is more of the effort to remove religion from government, and the fact that even as brutal as it was, western religions are no where near as brutal as some current religions in other parts of the world. that helped a lot as well...

id personally rather watch it in a video... i'm to ADHD to read a book. but i have a feeling its going to be a very centrist view when it comes to most things. kind of a live an let live sort of deal, and respect is earned, not given or expected due to (insert minority groups here) which is the preferable. i also believe he much prefers meritocracy over affirmative action as well.

anyways that's just my predictions. i guess we will have to wait and find out, he might be an insane right winger dropping the black pill in his book, which i think would be pretty funny, or he could be a closet SJW which would be just disappointing

BUT at the end of the day, does it really matter? as long as it doesn't effect the quality of work he is producing, and i imagine nobody he works with cares that much, then its all good

then you should have plenty of light then, that's a really interesting lighting system you have XD i just use some bright light bulbs in my wall sconces

and yeah, i cant see a webcam being all to very good.

another straight video option is a camcorder, the canon vixia hf r800 is cheap, can supply a clean HDMI ouput, made for long video capture so you wont have to worry about the 30 minute thing, and it has a decent optical zoom.

and then for the rapid fire pictures, just get a DSLR for pictures only.

also one last thing i should note, make sure  to watch out if your camera will output audio over the HDMI, some will not, some will, and some will but only with internal mics built into the camera. that is if you care about audio, i personally dont as i have a mic connected another method

oh yeah they certainly are. don't worry to much about mega pixels , they are more important for sharper detailed still images , also don't worry to much about 4k right now (you most likely wont do stream anything more then 720p or 1080p (a 720p stream with a decent bitrate will look better then a 1080p one with a sacrificed bit rate)). look for bigger sensor sizes and newer image processors that can preform better in lower light. a major dis advantage of using a phone is that the sensor is tiny, and so they dont capture as much light causing the image to be noisy as the have to bump up the ISO and well it result in more noise. and of course the nice thing about DSLRs is that you can use different lenses that have different properties to achieve the shot that you want. i know some people use wide angle lens, others just you the standard kit lenses, some use prime lenses for the wide aperture. i personally use the kit lens and just have some lights in front of me and its all good.

as for using your phone, i do think its possible. i know you can get a video feed of it through the android dev kit. and i also know that you can stream it over you local network to your computer, but with both of these methods it is probably reasonable to expect latency, and low quality.

think of the live feed on you phone screen when you are in the camera app. its just a general representation of what you are taking a picture of, its nothing nice and high quality.

here ist he limited canon DSLR experience i have, as i'm also trying figure out my own solution and have been researching for a while. only thing is that i'm in the canon echo system already and i'm not sure if any of it transfers over to sony very much

canon rebel series can do it, i'm sure other canon cameras can to, however the FPS and quality in general will most likely be garbage, at least in my experience

personally if i where you, i would save up, get something similar to the elgato cam link. when i use it its extremely low latency, way lower latency then the live view from the EOS Utility. now this might just be the software or the camera, but i'm pretty sure its just the limitations of USB 2.0

Also streaming with DSLRs can be tricky, as a lot of them will only keep the shutter open for 30 mins. i've heard this is to stop over heating but i don't buy that. i'm pretty sure its a tax thing in the EU, something like cameras that can record over 30 mins you have to pay extra tax on or something and they decided not too make that region specific. but the way they implemented it is the shutter closes automatically after 30 mins even when not recording, i just recently found a way around that with my T7I and just today had it running for 5 hours straight with no overheat warning or it being physically warm to touch at all. I know the canon sl2 will allow you to keep the shutter open in video mode when you have the HDMI cable in however when you start recording it will hit the 30 minute mark.

to get a clean output, just focus where you want, turn it to manual focus, and hit the info button a couple of times and you will get a clean output at least with canon.

if you want to take rapid fire shots while streaming or outputting your video to whatever, then i have no idea what the solution is for you. i know with a DLSR you will never be able to accomplish that, unless maybe you are dropping thousands of dollars on one but i don't think its physically possible with the way the mirror and the shutter work.

On a subject like this, that is entirely political, i don't think thats is possible XD

as for the topic it's self. it really comes to no surprise, to me this is someone on the inside trying to actually lesson the heavy hand of internet censorship that we have been seeing this past couple of years, mainly by the solution of moderating tone rather then content. which if people could actually moderate that without being bias in any way wouldn't be an issue, the main problem is who dictates what tones are okay and how far it can go. it leaves it open to abuse in my opinion, and personally if I was running the internet, I would have none of it and if you didn't like it, get out or learn to deal with it or block it. But that's just my opinion on it as a liberal guy who has always been against any sort of censorship, its funny how the right is now fighting anti censorship and the left is fighting to censor. crazy times but looking back at history, the political pendulum has always been swinging like this.
