  1. Hey guys I'm looking for a laptop to have mobile access to a full computer experience when my smartphone won't cut it. This is for going to the library, sitting down in the car (bus, train etc.). I will be using my smartphone's hot spot or free WiFi. I need this PC to be a jack of all trades so to speak and to be at an approx. $1000-USD price range (I don't mind buying used, refurbished or new). My use case will be using the internet (1080p video watching, browsing, research, school applications), homework (documents, etc.), light gaming (I mostly play Overwatch, I am looking for 60 fps at 1080p 100% render scale). I will also be doing some coding and image/audio/video editing. General Desired Specs: CPU: At least 4-cores, 8-threads with boost clocks of 3.5ghz or higher and some kind of integrated graphics. RAM: 16gb of DDR3 or DDR4 (single or dual channel) Display: 15" 60hz 1080p (touch is optional) GPU: 4gb of VRAM or more (must have dedicated GPU) Keyboard: Full keyboard with number pad with back-light Wireless: Must have at least 802.11.ac WiFi (Bluetooth optional) Battery: rated for at least 6-8hrs of use per manufacturer statement (I know these aren't always accurate depending on usage) I/O: Standard 3mm headphone jack (with microphone built in or separate), USB 3.0 or better (min. of 2 USB ports, with charging during power-off), USB-C, Ethernet Connector, HDMI output (SD and other connectors optional), Webcam with at least 720p 30fps (IR a plus); DRIVE: NVME M.2 and 2.5" Drive support OS: Doesn't matter, I will install Window 10 anyways; So far I found the HP Pavilion 15
  2. Interesting. So I wonder would using the second GPU for other monitors allow for 2 dynamic resolutions? I have a drawing display that I wanted to use for one pc but my main monitor has a different aspect ratio of which doesn't display correctly on the draw screen (basically a wide screen on non-wide screen look). My main monitor is a 1440p 16:9 monitor the drawing screen however is a 8:5.
  3. So I've been doing a little research and was trying to find a use case for my RX 580. My thing is I have a GTX 1080 and obviously it does virtually everything better (not to mention my RX 580 is potentially a dud in terms of performance but that's not the issue, it still works). So I know that an AMD and NVIDIA graphics card cannot necessarily work together with eachother under "normal situations" (aka crossfire and sli). But I've heard that they can still both be used in the same system to do some kind of work. In the case of gaming DX12 was stated to support "mismatch" gpus. I haven't had luck getting the RX 580 to dp anything in DX12 titles (yes I made sure DX12 was enabled) - Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Battle Field 5. I was wondering if anyone knew how to use both GPUs and if not for this case for perhaps something else? If so HOW. I forgot to mention my PC: MB: ASROCK Z270 Extreme 4 CPU: i7 6700K RAM: 32gb of DDR4 3000 RAM (4x8) BOOT: M.2 NVME 500gb WD BLACK SSD GPU: GTX 1080 and the RX 580 (PCIE x8 x8)
  4. Even a gtx 1050ti can run on a 240watt PSU so definitely
  5. As was stated look for specific use cases (benchmarks of programs you use). As you might find some software to not take advantage of any particular CPU. The i7 8700 is a 6 core 12 thread CPU with a base clock of 3.2ghz and bopsted to 4.1ghz. This would explain a better cinebench score for the Ryzen 5 2600 simply due to a slightly higher base clock to boost ratio. Cinebench makes my i7 6700K look amazing when OC'd to 4.4 from its base but in reality you won't likely see much difference. But cost to me is the biggest factor the Ryzen 5 is basically 50% less (give or take). The Intel CPU is technically overall faster will slightly smaller CPU cache and will not come with a cooler but it does have a integrated GPU unlike the Ryzen 5 which if you care will mean you will need to buy a graphics card also if you go for Ryzen if you don't have one already. Motherboards will cost about the same, however one thing to note is that the AM4 platform is going to support Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) so ypur upgrade path is potentially really good and overall less expensive if you want to upgrade to a better processor later on like say a Ryzen 7 3700x which may be a very powerful processor coming end of 2019 at the latest. So overall the Ryzen makes more sense ultimately. The 50% savings (or more) will make up for the cost of a decent GPU say a $150-200 USD coupd get you a GTX 1050ti, RX 580 and even a GTX1060 if you loom for it. But if you have a GPU then hey no need to worry save some money on the Ryzen 5 and use that to get better RAM or storage of whatever (just use stock settings, even a minor overclock is handled well by the stock cooler)
  6. Any way to check the BIOS? It shows the advertised clocks and userbench states its working like an average RX 580. I also can't seem to find the specific BIOS for it in case it is changed. My card is a MSI Radeon RX 580 V1 8gb card with 8 pin power. Even if I ignore sound its temps don't reach past 75C while playing.
  7. Funny I did the same in regards, it's in chill mode and I put the game to 60fps. It still doesn't get 90fps but honestly I didn't want this card sitting around doing nothing. I'll be using the 1050ti for my Inspiron 3650 for now. Also it seems to get to 75C while gaming. I noted it is also quiter now aftee cleaning it. I took it apart and washed the heatsinks with soapy water and pat dried it then sat it on my lamp to heat up amd dry off. Works fine. Also i removed dust off the heat pad, cleaned the fan motor and added a small ear cleaner of engine oil to lube it, test runs fine and is doing good. I don't know why it is not on par with my 1050ti but if it can at least do what I bought it for that's fine too lol. I paid $150 for it anyway much the same as the 1050ti.
  8. So I popped it in and for some random reason it's working "normally". It's running Overwatch 70C at 70fps (68-70, which the 1050ti was doing). It also is pretty quite now and I switched it out for the 1050ti and didn't have to install anything it just loaded like it was normal but I don't get any AMD options on right click nor thay AMD icon in the right corner of the screen. Now it's at 75C sitting at the menu (in game it was climbing to 66C) I will let it idle and see what happens.
  9. I just placed it in the Bode 202 build. I cleaned it post testing and confirmed it worked and didn't burn itself up. Now I want to see how it performs, noted it didnt sound like a jet when booting this time.
  10. The temps aren't bad in my main rigg. However in my sister's node 202 it runs 85C with stock fan curves. I tried maxing speeds but it's unreasonably loud compared to the 1050ti which barelly makes a peep. I assume it may be a botched drive so I'll try the old driver idea first.
  11. Yes,I uninstalled drives/software for both, they each had clean installs with the opposing GPU softwares removed including drivers. What driver did you use?
  12. It looks like it wouldn't be hard to optimize. Honestly from my experience I have to re route cables at least twice to get it how I like.
