Steve addressed this during a stream. He puts things in the "correct" order largely out of habit, but he also acknowledges that once the water heat soaks, if there is a difference, it is within the margin of error of conventional testing. I believe that is quoting him correctly, but this WAS a while ago now.

Ive heard a lot of people say the 40 series have sucky trackpads, though i've never used one. I WOULD be weary of any dual core that isn't upgradable though.

With that being said, there is a guide to replace the trackpad if you dont like it. http://diy.mironto.sk/thinkpad-x240-replacing-touchpad-and-keyboard/

I can tell you, as an owner of several Thinkpad tablet models. You will NOT use it as much as you think you will. They are too bulky to actually be used to take notes, IMO.

I had an X201T, which I loved to death, but the simple fact was that It wasn't a great tablet for much other than laying it on my desk and playing OSU!.

T440/T440S are great machines. I daily a T430 and love it to death. If you wanna save some cash over a T440, pick one up. Ivy bridge to Haswell mobile isn't a big jump in performance, moreso battery life. But, I get something like 8-9 hours with my T430 with the best factory display option, and an HDD. Mind you, I do have a brand new 9 cell battery in mine.

They always surprise me with one or two extras, but thats it. I spend my birthdays with people i love, and share smiles. Thats all the gift i need

No use going up the upgrade path of that CPU. Its a dead end, and prices don't make sense. The BEST that CPU line has to offer is 4 cores and 4 threads, with the performance of an Intel processor from ~2012-2013.

If you want to swap the CPU to something else, you'll need a motherboard, and RAM. Storage is on its way out, it's a cheap prebuilt with a likely very cheap PSU, GPU is last gen and weak sauce...

Moral of the story is you aught to throw a cheap 1TB HDD in that system to replace the dying one, sell it off, and start from scratch. I get thats not for everybody, and if you want to just replace the storage and keep rocking, pick up a 1TB SSD. Something like that you can take with you to your new system.

Yep. Id wager an overclocked 2600x + 2060 is pulling something around 400-450w. I 100% doubt that that PSU is really good for the "587w" it claims per my googling. Replace the PSU ad I would bet it fixes the issue.

Brief research states its made by SAMA, who I have never heard of. But what tells it all as to the quality is the warrenty of the PSU, 1 year. That is one third corsair's absolute cheapest PSU's, which are "only suitable for office use". I think/hope that says all you need to know.

SenKa reacted to LevitatingBusinessMan in LTT: 10 ways Linux is just better!
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX. Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Doesn't shock me, tbh. The big benefit to NVME is size and cable management. The ability to just not run SATA data cables if you dont absolutely NEED storage greater than ~4TB is a godsend for everybody. Especially so for SFF freaks.

There are a couple you marked with the orange circle or X that i disagree with, but overall: yeah.

LMG is a for profit company, they will act in the interest of profit and Linus has made it VERY clear that as much as he loves the community he will air on the side of keeping the doors open if thats what it comes down to. Which, thats what he should do.

Kick proof TV and Gaming web browser are passable, because theyre literally the exact phrasing i would expect somebody to search if they wanted a topic on said objects. Thats what a title should be.

"This Prototype PC..." is arguably passable because, as a prototype from an unknown company nobody is really going to search it by name.

What irks ME more is when the title doesn't align with the actual conclusions in the video such as "Stop buying the Macbook Air" concluding with the opinion that though it still demand an unjust premium it IS the cheapest way to get in to macOS on a 'new' device and isn't a BAD device at all.

I brought this up a while ago, was ignored, and managed to forget until now. It may have even been on the old thread...

Regardless, I disagree with D+ and C as categories given their definitions. As stated, D+ units are only dangerous in HIGHLY unlikely situations such as if you were building a system based on very early revisions of the ATX standard when CPU's ran off the 5v rail. In a modern system they are perfectly usable, if not bottom barrel units. Being acceptable is not a failure, as a D+ is considered to be.

IMO, D+ should be moved to C and C should be moved to C+. I think it better represents where the units actually stand, as in reality if you were to be going all out dirt cheap on a new system with something like a Ryzen APU, the market for low end PSU's, you would be 100% totally fine with a D+ unit. Though, due to D+ being a "fail" grade in education, most people see those as failed products when they in fact are not.
