I have the SSD with windows on it as the first boot option unless I'm supposed to have something else come first I believe that's right.

Try setting "Windows Boot Manager" to #1. I believe setting the SSD before WBM makes it boot in some funky EFI mode that UEFI boards dont like. I had the same issue on my MSI Z370-M

This all seems like far too much effort for what it does.

Why not just throw in a fan controller or something to flll the space?

Not sure you can find a card with both internal headers on it
    https://www.newegg.com/Add-On-Cards/SubCategory/ID-73

Or hell, like I said I'd also take one with 2 USB 2.0 headers. I can't find that either

Edit: Found it! Dual USB 3.0 but thats close enough https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815256006

  3. Hello, im looking for a probably strange and specific USB controller card, can be PCI or PCI-E (no larger than 8X if PCI-E)

    What it needs:

    Internal USB 3.0 Header

    Internal USB 2.0 Header

    Preferred no external power requirement.

Incase any of you are curious, it is for putting this into a PowerEdge 2900, which has no standard internal USB headers; and is too old for USB 3.0 anyways. This wouldn't be used for more than pulling photos off of CF cards and other non time-sensitive tasks; so if i need to use a USB 2.0 -> 3.0 adapter and just get a card with dual internal USB 2.0 I will; but I cant find one of those either.

    all are healthy and OK..

I've never heard of Fake Raid-0 but I would imagine theres an issue with one or both of your drives in the array; especially since they seem a bit old. Before I go and blame hardware, try running System Ninja and see how much it finds to delete (and delete it all, of course)

As a former college student. You dont want to lug around a 17" notebook. Also, with a big ass battery comes weight. Also, Windows 10 on ARM is relativity a new concept and who knows if it will ever catch on. Even with emulation, they cant guarantee that all the software will work well.

People want small devices with lots of battery power. So 17" doesn't really fit in to that. Also, if you want a lower powered machine like that, Id suggest looking at Chromebooks, they have about all day battery life. I think at minimum most Chromebooks have 10 hours if not more.

Issue with the chromebook is the tiny screen. I've also used them and hate the OS in its entirety. I think the solution to my question is the LG Gram 17", hope it's as good as it sounds!

ye that strange maby case wires has to do whit something dunno

In the video you didn't have power plugged into the GPU. But, a system that doesn't work when more power is drawn from it points to a bad PSU. Do you have another one to test it with?

Also, little forum etiquette for you: Please use proper spelling and grammar, not everybody here is a native English speaker so misspelling things, poor grammar, and slang ("ye", "dunno") may confuse people who might be able to help you. English is my first language and I had issues reading some of your posts

    Hello everyone

Bit of a strange one. I'm trying to fix an hp envy for a friend. It won't turn on. I've reseated the ram, tried known good ram, taken out the cmos battery and put it back in after holding the power button, same with battery. No luck.

Here's the strange part. The power light comes on when pressed, the harddrive spins, but can't hear any activity. And the cpu fan comes on for about 2 seconds then shuts straight off. I thought it could be the display, but its not even working with a known working monitor connected. Any ideas?

Knowing what I know of HP's, it's failing POST at some point and shutting off. You wont get any display until POST is passed. Try resetting CMOS, swapping RAM configs around (1 stick in 1 slot, 1 in another slot, different sticks, ect.), and a simple google of "HP ENVY [model number here] turns on and turns off again, no display"

this cooler doesn't come with the plastic on it

It doesnt? Weird, but then that would point to poor Thermal Paste or mounting. I am going to disagree with RAM555789, the stock Wraith cooler is more than fine. Did you by chance plug the CPU fan into the CPU Fan header?

Yes, plus a USB with w10 installation

The motherboard likely came with a driver CD, put that in your PC and boot into the W10 setup. What it sounds like is Windows 10 doesnt have a driver for your M.2 slots in your motherboard. If you dont have a CD/DVD drive in your system, get a USB 3.0 one off Amazon

i've got an EliteBook too, but it's a litlle 14" 9470M, and i love the portability of the thing. it's so light i can comfortably hold it with one arm. ideal for showing a teacher something if i'm having issues... trying to do that with my 17" MSI gaming laptop was insanely dumb.

I have an 8460P with the BB09 undercradle battery, 9 or 10 pounds. And, the laptop I described would probably be pretty thin and therefor light.

a 17" for school is in my opinion a terrible idea. i tried that for a while and i didn't enjoy it. at all. it's so impractical.

Maybe im just weird in that regard. I had no issue with the weight of my old Elitebook until it was the only thing in my bag, and that was a 10 pound 15" laptop. The extra screen real estate of a 17" is a godsend for me, but that could just be me.
