This has been rumored for a long, long time. I believe it's happening, though the timeline seems ambitious IMO.

As somebody who has adamantly refused to wear glasses despite needing them... I very well might give these a shot if the AR bit is any good.

  2. i might have to treat my 2012 macbook pro to a new battery...

i've had this machine for like 1.5 years at least now, and it's served me well, but the battery wasn't amazing when i bought it and now it's really showing the age and the hundreds of cycles on it.

yesterday just having it sitting for about an hour on battery talking to one of my best friends on skype it dropped from 100% to 35%.

i'll wait for the WWDC keynote, if Apple doesn't drop it from support and i can get another year of updates out of it i'll swap out the battery, if they drop it i'll sell it and buy a newer model macbook air i think. haven't quite decided yet...

No I knew they worked on Catalina, but supposedly it was going to be cut *after* catalina. Though, I cant find it anymore.

Even more miffed they cut my old 2014 air from support.

  6. I think I just need a replacement mouse. My G303 is double clicking again. I don't know what would be a good replacement. Just a basic mouse with side buttons with a similar grip is all I want. Wireless with a wired fallback would be cool.

@Techstorm970 Using a viper ultimate as we speak, best mouse I've ever used. 100x better than my old g903 or gpro.

All up to opinion and experience though. I'll never be buying logi again 😛

And the G303 isn't too small for you?

My hands are similar in size, and I use a viper ultimate. However, I am left handed, so i need the ambi shape.

If you like the G303 size, here you go- https://www.amazon.com/Razer-Viper-Ultralight-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B084RPZD6T

The G303 has a really weird shape, oof.

How big are your hands (measured as pictured)? What came to mind first was the razer viper mini (which is wired only), but it's a different shape though overall very close in size.

  10. i'm getting a Surface Pro 3 :)

after looking at them for a bit and comparing them to other devices in this pricerange it was a pretty easy choice.

the one i got was €290 and it came with a typecover and a docking station.

that docking station is a big thing for me. if i've been out and have a bunch of stuff open on it in tabs or whatever then i can easily dock it to my full setup instead of having to open everything on my pc to finish what i was doing comfortably.

i compared it to a few options.

    - a Thinkpad of some sort

this would have worked, but the one's i saw had MUCH worse displays (the SP3 has a 1440p screen) and were heavy, also weren't as easy as the SP3 to hook up to my main setup.

    - an android tablet
this was also an option, but those devices lose support after a few years whereas the Surface just runs normal Windows 10 so will continue to recieve updates. also android doesn't have the app support Windows does. if i need to do something like make a bootable windows usb to fix someone's computer when i'm over i can do that on the surface but not on an android tablet.

    - an iPad

just... no. my mom has one and she loves it, but whenever i try to use it i feel held back by the OS. the interface is clunky to me and it's missing crucial features like a proper filesystem. also the support is good for a mobile device but it doesn't come close to a Windows device. and as a last thing the iPad's in my price range all use bluetooth keyboards still, which is a no-go for me. also iPad typecovers aren't backlit which is a massive deal when i'm on a train at night.

i need to wait a few days to get the money together to buy it, but i should have that in the next few days, so i'll go pick it up then.

Very true, just feels less polished than macOS in terms of a mobile OS. Of course with macOS you pay the price of apple hardware sometimes, as you know @Twilight

I just dont feel like windows handles itself well as a mobile OS. The way it handles updates just sucks, and when you're a lower power device where the resource impact of Windows Update actually matters... eesh. @Twilight

  13. Just had my first SATA cable failure in ages, scared me something different because its on my archive drive :/

    1. SenKa

      SenKa

@Pascal... I thought I had read that WD had slipped some SMR 8TB drives in to their Red family. I was wrong.

      Quote

Seagate reached out to TechSpot and clarified that it does not market SMR-based hard drives as NAS drives. "Seagate confirms that we do not utilize Shingled Magnetic Recording technology (SMR) in any IronWolf or IronWolf Pro drives." The company's Barracuda 8TB (ST8000DM004) and 5TB Desktop (ST500DM000) were previously called out for using SMR without specifying the tech, however, the drives are not aimed at NAS consumers and should be treated as such.

Similarly, Toshiba's P300 4TB (HDWD240UZSVA) and 6TB (HDWD260UZSVA) desktop drives aren't directly aimed at the NAS market but they also use SMR without specifying it. In its documentation for the P300, the company says that the drive "delivers high performance for professionals," so buyers should know what they're getting before making a purchase.

This leaves Western Digital, which notes that its 2TB-6TB Red drives, aimed at NAS consumers, have device-managed SMR (DMSMR), while remaining models in the 8TB-14TB capacities use CMR (Conventional Magnetic Recording).

      SenKa

@NZgamer This *is* my backup solution, but it is nowhere near as robust as i'm comfortable with. Just a single drive.

Dream would be 4 8TB drives, 2 of which are parity, but I am holding off since WD seems to be slipping out some SMR drives out of late and I want to make SURE I dont get stuck with those.

  15. f*ck this shit.

I went out of my way to go to an aasp today to try to get my Mac’s battery fixed, and the guy there was just like well, it wasn’t purchased here, so bye. That’s basically what happened.

then, I got in touch with the person I bought it from and was like hey, where did you buy it. Got the place, called them, and they said that it would cost me €250 for the battery and €500 or more for the battery and keyboard. what. the. f*ck.

So I’m done. This was a final strike. I still love apple’s software, and I will miss it, but I’m today gonna put all of my Mac’s up for sale and my iPhone when my mom gives it back to me. I’m actually f*cking done.

I have an elitebook sitting here, a new battery for it is like €40 if not less. How the f*ck do you get away with charging 250 for a goddamn battery swap!!!

So I’m putting this out there now. I will no longer use anything apple, since I just cannot afford the repairs.

I’m a reformed apple zombie for now.

  18. Sanders has dropped out. Going forth, I’ll be switching my party affiliation from Democrat, to Independent. The DNC is totally incapable of critical thought and chooses to run a dementia ridden candidate with the same ideas and voters as HRC. The very same HRC that lost to Donald Trump.

Trump is going to win a second term, I’ll bet $100 PayPal.

I personally dont think trump is handling this as poorly as some think. He could, of course, be handling it *much* better, but I would almost put most of my blame on the legislature.

How they managed to totally fuck the majority of college students with the stim bill is utterly insane. Do note that now there is no mention of the stipulation that those filed as dependents but are above the age of 18 being totally ineligible on the IRS' website.

    ANSWER THE QUESTION

    1. SenKa

      SenKa

both arguements are stupid. every war is ideological, and thus the true intentions will ALWAYS be lost to history as the winning side spins their own tale of it.

The civil war was basically a glorified, violent, riot gone bad. The south didnt like Lincoln, even after he explicitly stated he had no intentions of freeing slaves or changing the southern way of life in any meaningful way. The war "becoming about slaves" happened about midway through. Didn't start that way.

Fascism (/ˈfæʃɪzəm/) is a form of far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition, and strong regimentation of society and of the economy.

That doesn't sound like FDR at all...
